For our June '12 wedding, we included treats from Macaroon Boutique in the guests' welcome bags. The macaroons were not available {only at Christmas?} but we had the chocolate/sea salt cookies and madelines. Everyone raved about the quality and we were so happy to recommend such a top notch local business.
YuM! Best bakery and coffee shop in Charleston, sooo good.
My husband and I had food from here twice for takeout and once to dine in (in the span of about 2 weeks). We've tried a variety of the items on the menu, and everything has been terriffic. The service was more than fine the time we ate there. I highly recommend the Pad Thai and the Laos Egg Noodle Soup with Braised Pork. You can't beat the food for the price! It's one of our new favorites.
Favorite venue in Charleston!
Drinks and ginger beer were yummy but a bit pricey. Didn't care for the food after it arrived, I was really excited because the burger was so fairly priced but when it came out it looked like I had just gone through the McDonalds drive thru. Was still hungry when we left.
Great food for a great price.
I love Macintosh for Sunday brunch and for dinner. I am always pleasantly surprised with my dishes and great service.
I hear what others are saying about it being loud and dim. I haven't had a problem reading the menu, and enjoy the active atmosphere. Romantic its not, so if that is what you are looking for, I'd try some where else. But if you are looking for an energetic scene and some seriously good food, this is a great choice.
Favorites include:
Poutine
Pork Belly
Gnudi (drool)
Tilefish - YUM!
Love the style and the location is great in Avondale! Great beer selection and the food that I ordered was very good, albeit the presentation was a little lacking. I was however, a little disappointed in the margaritas. They taste wonderful, slightly sweet and tart, but when I think of a Mexican restaurant, I really picture large margaritas - not a small cynlinder glass filled with mostly ice. I want a giant margarita - at a good price. Otherwise, they seem successful and I hope that it continues!
update! our website is www.thegreendoorchs.com and our phone number is 754-9914 : )
Mexican restaurants come in a variety of styles and flavors and this is a much needed addition to the Charleston food scene. This is Baja Mexican style which I have spent a fair amount of time sampling in the San Diego and Baja Peninsula of Mexico. Charleston finally has a fish taco done right with stand out guacamole and filling salads as well as lots of other options as well. I have not tried everything yet but what i have had is really very good and value priced. Great place to bring kids and did I mention that the beer selection is solid as well. This is the type of place my family and I will eat at often. Please open one in MT P area.
I don't get it...
After all the buzz and ongoing construction...my wife & I stopped in to check it out.
We looked over the menu, thinking 'WTF', and wanted to leave. Already seated at the bar & feeling as if we should give it a try. Nothing on the peculiar menu jumped out at us. We ordered the peel-it-yourself shrimp. It was OK. Nothing special.
The raw bar is cool though with a good variety of oysters which I will try in due time.
I won't go into the whole ordeal...but based on my families experience on a single visit...I have no plans to go back.
Service was weak even though we were seated 6' from counter and there were only a couple other patrons. Waitress was more involved with setting up shop & organizing rather than waiting on customers. Meanwhile, one of the owners(?), a woman, is walking around with a glass of wine in hand and offers no assistance.
My meal came out separately and long after everyone else was served...in a party of 3. Food was not appetizing and bit 'off' from one would expect of familiar dishes.
No thank you.
I like the atmosphere. I like the menu & I like the prices.
On a recent visit, my wife & I were seated for dinner. The service was good and staff was attentive. Food was lacking unfortunately.
My wife had the tomato soup & a BLT. Soup was very 'acidy' and needed some sweetness to offset this, consistency wise...it reminded me of marinara sauce. BLT- bread was over-toasted to the point of being brittle and overall sandwich was very dry for lack of mayo....a lot of bread & lettuce but weak on bacon. Please, leave the 3rd slice of bread out of the picture unless you plan on doubling up on the bacon.
I had the patty melt. It was tasty but small. Considering this is 2 beef patties, it is hard to imagine this rates even 1/3 of a pound. It would be a better offering cut into quarters and served as an app for about $5. The fries were fresh & hot, but personally, I do not care for the 'shoestring' style. They taste more of fry grease than potato and there was an over abundance of the burned-up, little crispy fries, as if I got the last of the run.
2 meals, a soup, 2 draft beers, and one signature drink(which was great)...in over $50 including tip and still hungry. Might be better as a lunch venue. I am rating 2 stars based on the food...if you want to take in the drinks maybe a 3.
"Try Bon Banh Mi only if you want some food that excites your taste buds." i hate when people say shit like that. is it supposed to be a challenge for all those people who enjoy flavorless/dull food?
Damn tasty food. Try Bon Banh Mi only if you want some food that excites your taste buds. Every sandwich and taco is packed with tantalizing flavor. Service is quick for takeout, and they do deliver downtown. Parking sucks on Spring street.
The food I tried was bland. I tried the chicken taco and the Baja fish taco. Both were bland compared to Taco Boy. My friend had the Grilled Mahi taco and the Carne Asada taco. He agreed that the food needed more punch. The service was great and I liked the surf videos. Won't be back anytime soon.
I work in DT Charleston and found this place by accident. Have been back a couple of times because the selection of flavors & toppings is phenomenal and I like that it's self-serve.
Hey Adam83 - Sorry to prove you wrong, Mr Conspiracy Theorist: I am in no way affiliated with Sweet Ce-Ce's and I have posted other reviews. Good job with your fact checking. Why don't you spend your time going through the Warren Commission Report with a fine toothed comb while you're at it. Really, that's fine, don't go to Sweet Ce-Ce's - they'll be more for the rest of us!
