Visiting Charleston from out of state, my boyfriend and I found out about Diggity Doughnuts from researching various food blogs and magazine reviews that gave them stellar marks. We visited the shop on a Thursday about an hour and a half before they closed, it was very quiet, only us eating inside and a few others dropping in to pick up doughnuts. We ordered doughnuts and coffee with the owner who seemed very nice and down to earth. I was pleased with unique taste and flavor of the doughnuts, as was my boyfriend (someone who typically doesn't eat vegan or vegetarian food). After enjoying our doughnuts and seeing on the menu that they served a Sunday brunch in addition to their regular doughnuts we decided to stop back on Sunday to grab brunch and doughnuts to take back home to our families.
Sunday we arrived right at 11am when they opened and placed our order for 2 breakfast sandwiches and doughnuts. The woman helping us at the front desk was very nice and when we placed our order for breakfast sandwiches she told us it could be about 15 minutes and asked us if that would be okay before she put the orders through. We said that would be fine and she reassured us the doughnuts and coffee would be out shortly while we waited. We took a seat outside and the doughnuts and coffee came in about 5 minutes or less, as she told us. The doughnuts were hot, fresh and quite delicious, we were not disappointed on that front. We were talking and waiting patiently for our food when we saw the time and realized it was 30 after. At this point we were a bit annoyed but figured it had to be coming at any minute. 15 minutes later, however, we still had no sandwiches and were wondering what the hell was going on. By this time we were ready to go in and ask for a refund for our sandwiches so we could be on our way after waiting for 45 minutes. Though about this time the woman who rang us up at the front came out to apologize and tell us they hadn't forgotten us and our food would be our any minute. So we held tight, seeing as it seemed the food would be right out. 15 minutes later at noon, we still hadn't got our meals. By this point we were really quite frustrated as I would imagine most people would be after a "15 minute wait" turned into an hour, with no updates letting us know how long it would really be so that we could decide to skip it. So I walk in about to ask what's going on when the owner walks out with 2 breakfast sandwiches, so I ask her if those are for my boyfriend and I and she says "I don't know, are you sitting outside?", in an aggravated tone as if she didn't notice the 2 of us sitting outside (there were only 4 people seated outside, my boyfriend and I included, and she had been back and forth to serve the other table).
The lack of updates on the increasing wait time was extremely frustrating. However at least the woman at the front desk seemed genuinely sorry for the inconvenience, whereas the owner seemed annoyed and unapologetic. It's not like I expect people to bend over backwards when things go wrong but a genuine apology from the owner and perhaps an "is there anything I can do for you?", would have helped. Especially disappointing because it's a small business and the food is quality. I hope they can learn from this and hire more staff, get more equipment or stop serving brunch.
Rue de Jean is a Charleston classic that never disappoints. Downtown is so saturated with new and amazing restaurants that it’s easy to forget the ones who have been a fixture for such a long time. We were endlessly debating on which new restaurant to visit when we decided to pick a place we haven’t been in years. Rue fit that description.
Each of our courses came out tasting better than the last. The escargot, while straightforward, was delightful. The steak Roquefort was cooked to perfection, and the scallops were massive with perfect texture. The rich cream both served with the scallops was out of this world. Our server was a true professional, and the wine recommendations were spot on.
What is the point of this review? It is to remind those of us who have lived downtown for years to not forget the classics. There are so many new restaurants that have opened recently and it’s easy to fall into the hype trap while overlooking the establishments that have been producing a consistent and quality product for a long time.
I've been to Park Cafe twice. Pretentious, overpriced and blah food. The restrooms are labeled "WC" like we're in England. I've had the smoked chicken salad and the honey poached turkey sandwiches. Both were fresh and well put together, but just lacking any kind of flavor punch for the price. I prefer the sandwiches at Ted's butcherblock and Sunrise bistro express.
Had a great time nice staff beautiful ladies love the drinks i seriously recommend it.
Decent pizza, although it did not dethrone D's as the best pizza in Chraleston. Fast service, our pie came out super quickly. The space inside is nice but empty as we were the only patrons in the place.
Just FYI for anyone who heard otherwise: DeSano is NOT BYOB. You cannot bring beer, only wine (???). We found this out after showing up with our own beer. So be forewarned: it's BYOW, not BYOB.
Rather expensive for the amount of food but delicious. We are here 3-4 weeks a year and delight in trying new places to eat. The Grocery was a a real find and we will be back. My wife had the swordfish entree which was wonderful. Not that hungry I tried the soft shell crab small plate which was sitting on a bed of peppers and green with a vinegary dressing. A great choice.
I doubt the editors would appreciate AIncest being mean to Ms. Lentz just for giggles. Stay classy. Folks like you are the reason nobody likes James Island.

Your opinion on the "putting down of old people" is enlightening, although rude and condescending. Read it again when you get more experience. You may change your mind.
Have you tried the actual website of the town as opposed to that of a free weekly 'news'paper?

Why doesn't this site have a listing of problems people have and who they call to resolve them? I need to know who to contact about installing a culvert so I may construct a driveway to my property. Also, to whom do I speak about missing street signs? Minor issues such as these could be listed without having to tie up personnel in the office. Giving a list of nearby restaurants doesn't seem the primary business of the Town.
Avoid this guy. He takes your money and never does the work. Please be sure to google/research his "business." There has been many complaints, court cases, etc. Don't let this man take advantage of your money. He has a reputation for never showing up to complete the work after he has been paid. Please AVOID this guy, there are plenty more reputable companies out there.
In a very competitive restaurant town, they are creating food that cannot be found elsewhere in charleston. Very original flavors, great location, prompt service. This is a restaurant I can eat at a dozen times( and I have) and never order the same thing.
We recently visited Charleston for our 25th wedding anniversary. I had read the Trip Advisor reveiws and we made reservations for this fine restaurant. It far exceeded our expectations! The staff here was amazingly helpful and friendly, while still very professional. The food was impeccable! My husband had the whole fish and I got the chicken kabob. We also loved the pickled turnips. We are so glad we choose to eat at Leyla's.
The food is not bad but the food tends to sit much longer than it should on a well run buffet. The lady is nice and a good businesswoman. The old taliban looking guy is a bit grumpy and tactless when constantly trying to push beverages on people. All in all the food is middle of the road, not much to complain about especially for the price point, but home cooked indian food can be done up so much better. This place only seems great because it is the only option while Taste of India is a train wreck. If Bombay in N. Charleston wasn't constantly changing management or whatever other drama they have/had going on, I'd give them more of a try because some times their stuff has been super and sometimes it's B-rate.
The manager JOSEPH was extremely helpful and very knowledgeable. I had never been to a pawn shop before and i was a little scared to tell you the truth. but he made me feel comfortable and i will def be back b/c of him.
Got takeaway from there the other night. Clearly, there is some Chinese and Thai influence on the menu to make it more suitable for American tastes, but it was all very good and the staff were sharp and on the ball.
