Re: “Riverland Woods

Great place to live! Close to the city, close to Folley Beach and so many things to do without even leaving Riverland. The tropical pool is going to be heated soon for year round enjoyment.

Re: “Wando Shrimp Company

Consistently fresh seafood and cheap prices bring us back to Wando frequently. We have purchased shrimp, oysters, flounder, sea bass, and sheepshead from them, and always enjoyed the meal. The staff is always kind and cheerful. I am glad we have a hidden spot like this in Mt P.

Re: “Burwell's Stone Fire Grill

Top notch. Incredible space and vibe, with food to match. Best new place in town, and for steak you can't beat it! That rock app was amazing. Well done and A++ for the staff.

Re: “The Shelter Kitchen + Bar

Let me start off by staying I've been to Shelter on 4 separate occasions with each visit impressing me less than the last. I can honestly echo previous comments that the food is nothing spectacular and the service is absolutely awful. I gave them the benefit of the doubt the first two visits (with them recently opening and still working out the kinks,) but after my last lunch visit and TWO HOURS later I will not be dining with them any time soon. If the food was something to brag about, or the place had more than 10 people dining, I might put up with a little wait. When you're several weeks post open and still have serious service issues, problems run deeper than just the occasional server having a bad day.

On my forth visit, which was for a happy hour with friends, it is only fitting that the bar service is as slow as the food service. @edoksa, i'm surprised you found ice in your beer with the 20+ minute wait I had to endure for a single beverage. Living in Charleston, even during the cooler months, ice shouldn't stick around that long.

Also, the atmosphere isn't very relaxing. At least put some kind of partition between the deck and Colman Blvd to reduce the road noise and cut down on the exhaust inhalation.

I hope the owners take this review and the others above seriously because adjustments need to be made for this place to be successful.

Re: “The Shelter Kitchen + Bar

I am a big fan of the shelter. What they did architecturally to maximize and create a terraced open space from an existing structure is super. They have had time to refine their menu as well and some of their items really stand out, like their shrimp dip, which is an especially well crafted version of an already excellent local recipe. I think the place is an innovative treat.

Re: “Mike Calder's Buffalo Pub

I had some friends in town in mid-July and I took them to Calder's on a Friday night. The bartender was drunk out of his mind. We ordered food from him and told him we'd be outside with our drinks and he said he'd let us know when our food came out. 30 minutes went by, I went in and after 10 minutes of me trying to get his attention and focus on what I was asking, he said it wasn't ready yet without actually checking with the kitchen. After 20 more minutes my friend went in and asked the bartender where the food was and his reply was "oh, the kitchen guys left a half an hour ago. Did you order food?" I went over the last hour in detail with him and he stared at me with eyes glazed over and said "sorry, how bout I buy you a beer?" I said no thanks, we're hungry so we're going to the grocery store to get food. I paid my check and the bartender said "next time you come in remind me a I'll buy you dinner."
No thanks dummy. There won't be a next time. Good luck with your hangover.

Re: “Cru Catering

We got married at the end of October and used Cru as our caterers. They absolutely killed it. I highly recommend them!

Re: “O'Brion's Pub & Grille

Decided to try the I'ON location with my best friend here visiting from from Texas. Of several places the two of us visited during his stay in town, O'Brion's actually did all of the basic things to make a customer feel like a necessary part of the business equation correctly. We managed to get a seat at a nice comfortable high top table, were greeted within seconds by a very lovely young lady (Eva) who was actually smiling and glad to be there, placed and received our beer order which arrived within a couple of minutes icy cold along with well chilled pint glasses, had our questions about the menu answered confidently, and proceeded to enjoy sports on the many quality flat panel screens without the annoying nuisance of loud blaring volume while waiting for our food. The food arrived quickly despite a sizeable crowd and my friend described the burger as the best he had enjoyed in Mount Pleasant. Likewise, the Cuban sandwich I received was total perfection on a plate. As a bit of a connoisseur of this particular sandwich, I must point out that this is the first time I have ever received a "true" Cuban made properly in this town and it tasted spectacular. My friend and I were quite happy that we were able to enjoy our experience at this O'Brion's location from the minute we walked through the door until we left feeling very satisfied that at least one place in Mount Pleasant actually has what it takes to earn the business and insure the return visit of its patrons.

Re: “The Grill on the Edge

I have eaten here many times and the food and service have always been great. It is casual enough for the kids, but also a great place when it is just my wife and I.

Re: “The Shelter Kitchen + Bar

So-so food, drunken college kid crowd, and the beer selection is just a step above other bars on Shem Creek. I can't recommend this place, unless you just want to pound beers and yell a lot. I will probably revisit in a few months when the new bar crowd dies off.

Re: “Back Home Bar & Grill

First things first: this is a BAR with a menu, a sports bar more specifically. Nothing wrong with that, but I somehow missed that when choosing a meet-up place for my family and parents. And evidently they didn't offer us any of their drugs. Rip-off! ;-) Just kidding.

That being said, the waitress was very friendly, it wasn't loud, it is smoke free (yay, Charleston!) and the food (while slow because we were the only ones eating) was very good and very reasonable. Fish Po' Boy, Lobster Roll, Cheese steak and the Pepperoni Rolls were all super tasty. A definite winner for a casual sports bar.

Re: “Mary Edna Fraser Gallery

Y'all come visit me starting Monday. I am right behind the Harris Teeter on Folly Road, James Island. The studio has not been open to the public as an event for over 3 years as I have been busy, working steadily. Returning from Art Basel in Miami tomorrow!

Re: “Finz Bar and Grill

Finz is a nice place except for one problem: they have those damn roll up doors between the inside smoke free area and the outside addict area, so the addicts can just stand in the doors and blow their poison inside.
They leave these doors open so the poison gets in the smoke free area.
I won't be going back.
As with all non-smoke free places like this, the actual rating is zero stars.
