While I can appreciate the honorable gentleman's (anti-mike's peanuts) opinion. I have to agree to disagree. Granted he wasn't born here, but Mike has been in this area since the mid-90's which makes him as Charlestonian as anyone else. He's been featured on National Television for his products and his personality; He's sent his product overseas to the troops. The mayors of Charleston and North Charleston frequent his stand at the market. And he's been a fixture at the Charleston farmers market, Charleston Tea Plantation's First Flush festival and MUSC for years. Mike is notably gruff at times, and has a sarcastic wit (comically so), but at least you know without a doubt about his strength of character. His notoriety brings great credit to our beautiful city and its surrounding communities. Your comment smacks of a bias against "northerners", many of whom have contributed greatly to our ranking as one of the country top tourist destinations. Would you (anti-mike) be more comfortable if he dressed like Colonel Sanders?
peanuts are decent, Mike Shaughnessey is about as rude as they come. Typical NJ yankee coming down to the south to sell us fried food and talk terribly about our lifestyle. Hightly recommend you do not give your business to this hypocrite. He needs to take his negative attitude back to the north
Wonderful space for an event. Went to a Guerrilla Cuisine dinner there a couple of weeks ago and was surprised at how pretty the distillery hardware looks with the right lighting and how warm and comfortable the space was - especially for a warehouse and work site, at that (the bathrooms are a literally shining example). A few strategically placed pieces of art (big works well) and beautifully set tables were all that was needed to transform what would be a cavernous area in the back into a really cool, even elegant, venue. I know others worked hard to make that transformation and I WAS under the influence of some fabulous food, but the end result of GC & others' efforts highlighted the possibilities of the distillery space itself. The Striped Pig people proved very hospitable folks, dedicated to their craft and eager to share the process & results with willing fans. Sampled some powerful but oddly delicious moonshine & a more finished product. It is obvious that a great deal of thought went into making this space a welcoming place to hang out, whether for an event or just a visit.

Truly an icon, we love this guy! He completes our Saturday morning farmers market jaunts with his cart o' deliciousness. Summertime floods in with bold and juicy favorites that are full of flavor. Strawberry Basil, Thai Tea, Honeysuckle Lime, Hibiscus Pom, Fruity Pebbles, Salted Caramel the list goes on and on with flavors constantly changing with what is fresh and ripe at that time. True, its frozen but you can be sure it was only frozen a week ago at most. I don't know how he keeps up with the demand. Inventive and constantly throwing me a curve ball with new flavors, I have a hard time staying steady with my all-time favorites and am known to cheat on them with the flirty new flavor of the day. The King is keeping it local by using local products and we love that. At Pet Fest, he even made dog cups too. (Our dog Mojo loved his!) Make room in your day to find his cart (I believe he tweets locations)...it'll be a sweet 10 minutes of me time (and perhaps your dog too if you share.)
I should have posted this comment a long time ago. As I drove by Christophe Artisan Chocolatier today, and was reminded of the terrible experience I had with the people who own this business, and I needed to vent about it.
In 2011, I purchased a Groupon coupon for $40.00 assortment of Christophe's chocolates. The deal was run just before Valentine's Day, so I decided to use my coupon on chocolates for my boyfriend, who is a chocoholic. When I called in a week before the holiday, I was told that the chocolatier was swamped with Valentine's Day orders, and they wouldn't be able to fill my order at that time. I understood how busy they were, and decided to redeem my coupon at a later date.
I called them several times, and each time I was given the runaround. I was told to call another number, but no one answered the phone at that phone number. At one point someone took my phone number and promised to call me back. No one called me back, and after numerous unsuccessful attempts to redeem my coupon, I gave up. So I was out $20.00.
If business owners offer Groupon deals and take our money, they should be responsible enough to make good on the deal we bought.

I came up with the name 'Porter, Smoked' and now I've been banished to the Commonwealth of Northern Marianas Islands, very far from all that delicious beer. Wish I'd thought of a more creative title for such a heady brew. All they have out here is San Miguel and Red Horse. Maybe I can find some fresh tuba on Guam... I <3 Saipan! Cheers Dave & Jamie
