A group of us went to Blu last week to try it out for the first time. The rennovations at the Holiday Inn are great. The Blu dining room is huge, which was expected because it is in a hotel. We had a drink at the outdoor bar prior to sitting down for dinner. What a great place for drinks. I would come back simply for this. Now on to the food. It is mostly small plates so we all decided to share a bunch of stuff. We had scallops, sliders, duck shooters, veggie spring rolls, the clams, and the cheese plate. The scallops were perfectly cooked. Crisp on the outside and tender and moist on the inside. Duck shooters were good. The marindade or sauce they were in was very strong, however the soba noodles and fried wonton helped mellow that taste out. Sliders were great. These seem like a simple thing, but they were cooked perfect and the onions and the crisp pickle that were served with it really stepped these sliders up. Veggie spring rolls were awesome. They did not last long on the plate. Served with soba noodles and a dipping sauce. Great textures and flavors. I did not get to try the clams, but the plate was empty and I was told the sauce served with them was great. Cheese plate was fine too. Standard 4 cheese with some sweet and salty items to accompany the cheese. A great starter to share with everyone.
The service was attentive and was able to reccomend a few things for us. Two thumbs up for Blu and all of its staff. The portions are great and very price friendly. Thanks for the great night Blu!
I have eaten at Blu several times and it is always great! Personally, I love the pepper seared tuna and it is one of my favorites on the sharing menu so I guess that's a matter of taste. The artful and precise presentation of the dishes is not something you would expect to see on Folly and is a refreshing change from a clearly talented Chef. Keep up the great work, Blu!
Just had lunch there and the food was good. Fried shrimp were some of the better I've had and fish stew was average. Fried shrimp are $14.95, but you'll have to give them $1.50 more if you want some fries. I'm aware that you're going to pay for the organic ingredients, but $20 crab cake and $10 slice of chocolate cake on the menu for lunch...come on! Good atmosphere and friendly service, but you might want to bring about $30-$40 if you're having lunch for two! I wish them well, but they need to work on the pricing.
Re: “Blu Restaurant & Bar”
Met some friends there last week as they were on vacation on Folly. Sat outside and it was fantastic.
I cannot believe how much the Holiday Inn has changed. It is modern and just looks great.
Service was slow, but we didn't really care as we were enjoying ourselves so much sat looking at the ocean.
We all shared plates, and everything was great.
Go, you will not be dissapointed.
