So why does it rate 2.2 stars?
I am so sick and tired of bars misspelling Guinness.... in their ad in CP they left off an N in Guinness.... why celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in a bar that can't correctly spell one of the most recognized beers in the world? To Castaways Grille I say Pogue Mahone!!!!!!
What a great local! So happy that there is a place on Johns Island to enjoy an after-work beer in a friendly pub. Bartender and owner Gerry is a gem, treats his customers as friends, and is a craftsman with the cocktails, too. Hard to drive past it on your way home without stopping for a pint!
Things wrong from my visit last summer (and only visit).
1. Wait staff took over 10 minutes to say hello to the table (We, a 4 top, were 1 of 4 tables so they weren't weeded)
2. So much dust and crud on the walls that it was NASTY to look at.
3. Lack of management intervention during a scuffle between two employees. Curse words flew rampant out of one guys mouth involved in the scuffle.
4. Wait staff (all four servers), hostess and bartender stayed by the bar and talked the whole time. Drinks stayed empty and the cook had to walk the food out due to our "server" chatting at the bar.
5. Management promised gift certificates mailed due to our horrible experience to make up for the scuffled witnessed but they never came.
6. Food was marginal at best.
7. The best part was the cook who walked our food out and checked on us 2x due to our waiter loving to chat with other workers.
I've run a restaurant and I never would have allowed this lack of service to take place. I will never go there again and when friends ask, I am very honest about my experience there.
Seanachai is a great little pub on Johns Island. Great staff with nice craft beers and Irish whiskey selection, with good live music every week.
Nastiest lasagna....how do they stay open? Gross.
...Very friendly atmosphere...great chicken tenders...good sweet tea...Chris Tidestrom does an excellent job on Thursday nights, at the open mic event, and the open mic scene will certainly grow rapidly as the summer season comes upon us. I have found the staff to be totally honest and polite...sometimes, maybe some people are served based upon their attitudes...and what they deserve...so Karma serves it up...
Total Garbage. Do not get a CSA from them. They claim they grow their own produce, but alas, all they grow is more and more paranoid and resentful. When asked where the produce came from they claimed it was from their farm. I went on a tour of the farm and there is nothing growing there. At all.
Everything I have ever thought less of Charleston for has finally arrived. Thank goodness for these retro hippie amazingly creative individuals. I will never leave unless you don't stay. THEALLEY CHARLESTON
Sometimes overly crowded. Doesn't stop me from going. Can't beat the champaign list.
I'm usually a downtown guy, but I live in Summerville. I've always been skeptical of going to bars in my own area but I decided to give Montreax a try this past Friday night. I was surprised about how normal and young the clientele was, similar to being at a bar downtown. Had a few drinks which weren't expensive at all and had a great time with my friends. Definitely checking it out again.
This club sucks if for some reason the bouncer or the Asian mafia there doesn't
Like your look. I was there and only for maybe 15 or 30 min. In that time I met some great fun people. Then I needed to use the restroom which is down a sketchy hallway. As I left 2 thugs grabbed me ,beat me and broke my rib. For no apparent reason. I was leaving the next day or I would have pursued an assault charge. I am planning on calling the local police there. But I am thinking it won't go anywhere. You are warned.
BEER UNIVERSITY IS AWESOME!
Horrible service. Almost 1.5 hours for dinner. Every time is a long wait. Wish we had a better pub in West Ashley
Really fun! Looking forward to it! All ages, all skills!
A fantastic venue with a nice atmosphere, a fast wood floor, and plenty of seating with chairs and tables to make yourself comfortable.
Apparently this is the best kept secrect in Hanahan/North Charleston. From the road it looks like a dive bar/restaurant but inside it's not at all. A buddy of mine told me I should go in there on a Wednesday and try their steak special (10oz. for $8.95 with salad, french fries or baked potato). This may be the best deal going in town and the sorrounding area! You definitely won't be dissappointed and the waitstaff was great!
I grew up in the lowcountry and as a kid stayed up all night many a time drinking beer and cooking whole hogs in backyard pits. REAL lowcountry BBQ. Sticky Fingers, IMO, is grossly overrated. It's Memphis style BBQ, not SC or lowcountry BBQ. If you want some serious BBQ, drive to Holly Hill and eat at Sweatman's or go to Conway for meat from Scott's. There are dozens of mom & pop BBQ joints within 70 miles of the coast that put Sticky Fingers to shame. Brown's in Kingstree is fantastic!! Here in Charleston the best places for Carolina style or lowcountry BBQ are Duke's on Folly Road and JB's Smokeshack on Maybank over on Johns Island.
Re: “The Rarebit”
Been twice, impressed both times. Had French toast at 11pm with a "Dark & Stormy" cocktail. The French toast was excellent with the sorghum syrup and $2 optional strawberries and bananas. The Dark & Stormy was tasty, but I wouldn't get another one for the $9 they charge for it. I came back later for lunch. Tried the chicken and waffle plate. The chicken was really, really damn good. The waffle was ok. Service was good both times.
