My favorite place in Charleston. Seriously hands down awesome tacos and great margaritas.
This place rules! Great beers to try, free pretzels and very friendly bartenders. It's a very chill atmosphere and good for a nice conversation.
Great bar, great beers, great people. Great place to talk to friends over a beer without drowning in college testosterone.
Best Mexican food in SC for supper reasonable pricing.
Staff is extremely attentive, fast and professional. Food portions are great size. Me and my mom had "fajitas for two to share" (Sizzling shrimp, chicken and pork with bell peppers + 6 warm tortillas side of fried beans and guacamole). Price 19$. We ended up taking some home and were full to max!!!! Awesome Margaritas and Daquries!
They have 4pool tournaments a week lots of fun

Best Gullah food around. All the rice dishes are great, especially the gullah rice. Fried chicken almost as good as my mommas.
How can you review a place if you didn't eat there, didn't mention the beer/cocktails and your only criticism is that you can't use the prepaid car at the bar?

The Shelter Kitchen and Bar is definitely not what I was expecting when I walked into it. As another bar on Shem Creek I was expecting fried seafood and all the other standard foods, but I was wrong. Their appetizers (which are half off on happy our or on Monday nights after 9 for food and bev night) are fantastic. The fried pickles and okra was amazing with the in house made chipotle ranch, and so were the Low country Rolls! (basically a spring roll for southerners, collards, pulled pork, and mustard based BBQ sauce). Even just the basket of fries I've had there before was great, it comes with a really fantastic garlic aioli.
The burgers are huge and superb. About 7 different choices for toppings, and you can opt out of a burger for a chicken breast, fried chicken breast, veggie burger (which is great) and even a Portabella mushroom. I've only had my burger cooked incorrectly once, and it was underdone so I sent it back and they actually recooked an entire burger instead of heating up my underdone burger. I was very impressed with the time it took to get food to the table, (as well as drinks) and the reaction time of managers to get out to the table to make sure problems are taken care of in a proper way.
Drinks do take a little while. But if you look at the bar on any given night, they may seem understaffed at some points. If you order your drink when you're 2/3rds done you will never wait on a drink. If you wait until you're done and then have to wait for your server to get back around when this place is packed, I can understand how people would think its bad bar service. But in reality its just its shear volume of people there. Maybe I just do this cause i'm in food and bev myself. But as a server, I enjoy going to The Shelter Kitchen and Bar, happy servers, happy people, happy managers, and a great overall atmosphere. Will be there again, and again.
Manny's Mediterranean Cafe on George St has the best Gyros I have had in years - fresh and delicious - a must. Great service and a very comfortable experience - can't wait to go back for more
I love shelter it's a great place for younger people to hang out in Mt. Pleasant, the brunch is fantastic and the dinner menu is also really great. The drink specials are great too $6 crafts of mimosas yes please!
I would disregard any review written during restaurant week... kind of a given there.
Cypress is excellent. Been going there since they opened and it is always a favorite, even when new and great places open.

Bacco is my go-to Italian restaurant in the Charleston area. I have been there many times and have never been disappointed by the food, drinks, or service. I tend to be very picky with Italian food, after living in Italy for a short time. Chef Michael is an expert at recreating and reinventing many of the traditional Italian dishes I love. I especially enjoy his ability to prepare perfect hand made pasta cooked Al dente, as it should be. His main courses are also quite amazing, and we look forward to creative specials like the seared lamb neck. While you are there, make sure you give the home made limoncello a try. I look forward to my next visit. Ciao!
What a great local! So happy that there is a place on Johns Island to enjoy an after-work beer in a friendly pub. Bartender and owner Gerry is a gem, treats his customers as friends, and is a craftsman with the cocktails, too. Hard to drive past it on your way home without stopping for a pint!
