Re: “NV Dance Lounge

Every time I think that Charleston is on it's way back up something like this place happens. Why do Charleston bars have to follow the trends of NYC or LA. Got news, the bar is in Charleston so stop trying to be something you're not. The cover is ridiculous for what you are getting. I think they think that the idea that they borrowed was the prices.

Re: “Vickery's Bar and Grill

Have been lots of times, to both locations, but I prefer downtown. Now that they have closed, we are stuck with the Mt. Pleasant location. Service last night was awful - 30 minute wait for sandwiches, no drink refills, no smile, and overall we seemed to inconvenience the server who was clearly more interested in going home. Food was mediocre and not up to par even for casual dining experience. Soggy fries, unseasoned fish, overcooked burger, etc. I complained to the manager who pulled my check up only to find out the server took it upon herself to double the tip I had signed for. Not sure I will ever be back.

Re: “Smoky Oak Taproom

I was there a couple of weeks ago and after reading several of the reviews it seems that I am not the only one whose brisket came out extremely soggy with a lot of fat on it. I got the sandwich and my bread was so wet I couldn't even eat it and the brisket I had to use a knife and fork to trim off all of the fat. Definitely do not get the brisket. Also, the side of hash is not good at all, I wouldn't even classify that as hash.

Re: “Coconut Joe's Beach Grill & Bar

My husband and I went here last Friday looking for a casual place to eat some dinner and listen to some music. Obviously we knew that it would be crowded and we would have to wait. We put our name on the list and went upstairs on the deck to listen to the music. The music was great and the view of the beach is wonderful, but it was way too pricey. We each got an Amstel Light and they were almost 5 dollars a piece. Once we got into the restaurant after about 30 minutes (not a big deal, we totally expected this on a friday night in june) we were litterally forgotten about...several times by our server. The food was ok but nothing amazing. This place has tourist trap written all over it.

Re: “Market Street Saloon

The jv team of coyote ugly girls. Most of the girls can't dance and they make up for their lack of looks (that's what this bar is supposed to be about right?) by showing more skin. If you are hot, you are hot and lack of clothes is not going to change it. Should consider hiring some A-team hotties, if they are not qualified, train them. Anything would be better than what they got (for the majority of them working there). Trying to get drinks there is a feat in itself.

Re: The Commentist....

Right there with you. The burgers are just 'ok.' You better options in West Ashley are Sesame or Parson Jacks for burgers. Too bad, because the menu (at least on paper) has a lot of potential. They just need someone that can execute.

Re: “Smoky Oak Taproom

Great atmosphere for a neighborhood joint. Long way to go to attract off-islanders. My most recent visit uncovered the fact that Country Crock is often substituted for butter by the front staff. Boo! Terrific onion rings. I have given up trying to get a cooked to order hamburger. If I liked Q maybe I would stand a better chance of having a decent meal.

Re: “King Street Grille

Me and my wife went out to enjoy a Saturday night, I wish we did not go to the King Street Grill. The wings were the worst I have ever tasted, the sliders seemed to come from a can. Then we get our bill and it was wrong, we were overcharged by 20.00. The music was not the best either, the Michael Jackson Tribute band need to practice a lot more. I will say that the beer was good and cold.

Re: “Oscar's Restaurant

Don't let the white table cloths fool you. This is a restaurant that is "almost" or more accurately falls in the "wannabe" category. It has no place being mentioned in the same sentence as Charleston dining.

Spinach dip appetizer was good, the rest of the meal mediocre enough to not warrant a return visit with so many fine restaurants in the area. Steak Au Poivre was a thin ribeye, overcooked with brown gravy. No pepper, no cream, no brandy, no character. Chicken Oscar also completely misses the target.

It was also priced like the fine restaurant it proved not to be. I couldn't be more disappointed since it would be great to have a restaurant in Summerville that really is what this one purports to be.

Re: “Neil Jordan's Steakhouse

The food and service was good, but we didn't feel it was anything special for the price. We normally eat at a fine dining steakhouse downtown, which is around the same price. This, unfortunately, did not compare.

Re: “Neil Jordan's Steakhouse

The steaks were good. Thats about all I can say. My wife and I decided to try it for dinner because a friend gave us a restaurant.com coupon for $25 BUCKS OFF. Seemed like a good deal. Well two ribeyes @ $33 bucks each, two straight up drinks and two salads. $120 bucks with tip, even with the $25 off. If it were "upscale" I might feel better, but I think they think a bit too highly of themselves. The steak was good, but I won't be back.

Re: “Fiery Ron's Home Team BBQ

Upside: Pork and chicken were both delicious. Mac and cheese is very different with a vinegary tang - but very good. Super cold beer hit the spot.

Downside: Once I got my food and initial beer I was pretty much ignored by the staff. Had to go to the bar and get my own beer and then had to go up to get a take out box since everyone seemed to be focused on talking with their friends, not catering to the customers.

There were approx. 12 people at the restaurant at the time.

Great food, crappy service.

Re: “Saffron

Saffron used to be a lot better. Past times I have been it hasn't seemed very clean. The menu is okay. I just never feel like the food is that fresh. The day old bread is a nice touch but definitely tastes like old bread.

Re: “Grindz Burgers & Brew

I live walking distance from Grindz so when it opened, we had to check it out. My hopes were high there would be a gourmet burger joint with some good drafts where we could hang out, enjoy a good meal, and walk home. The only part of that dream was that I could have walked home. But I didn't - I ran.

I'll preface my review by saying we did go to Grindz within their first month of opening. However, there is only so much to making an excellent burger once you have the menu created. I went with the Dirty Sanchez, not because of the name, but the idea of fusing mexican food and a burger together sounded too good to be true. It was. I ordered the burger medium and it came out essentially seared and bloody raw in the middle. The toppings were all there but none of them were of any particular good quality and they didn't blend together. Although I didn't hate the burger, I was disappointed that it cost me $9 and really wasn't very well made. In addition to being a lackluster burger, it took a good 30 minutes for it to come out. I asked the waitress 2 seperate times for status of my meal and was dismissed both times. A fellow diner ordered the cheesesteak sandwich which was a clumsy disappointment. Tasted like the cooked oscar mayer roast beef in a dry pan and stuffed it into a stale roll. The beer selection stinks and the ambiance rivals that of a DMV lobby.

As Jeff said, this place is not BAD. But it's not great or even good. The food is just average, the service is lackluster, and the atmosphere is a confusing quasi-family friendly-sports bar-strip mall vibe. I can honestly say I would rather spend my $9 for a burger at Ruby Tuesday's. Or go to Hardess and get 2.

Re: “Rendezvous Bar and Grille

Excellent decor, less than acceptable service. Understandably, the bartender was alone. They would do well to have a more experienced tender flying solo. Frankly, I would be very surprised if the management knew their employees (if they are employees) were on a review page giving lip service to customers. Maybe is a little more indicative of their service and attitude than I normally give reviews credit for. Place has great potential.

Re: “Bucca's Bar & Grill

Service is EXTREMELY slow. It took 45 minutes for us to get salads. So don't even think about this place during a lunch break. Really a shame because the food itself was excellent.

Re: “Chai's Lounge

this place has a great atmosphere but the food is mediocre and although it is a tapas menu i found the portions to be skimpy and overpriced! My friends and I (4 total) literally ordered almost everything on the menu and still left there hungry! I miss Meritage.

Re: “Liberty Tap Room & Grill

Just average, nothing to blow your skirt up. The Beer was good, my salmon BLT was okay, but underseasoned. Seems like a little too much of a chain-restaurant atmosphere. Maybe theyre still working the kinks out....

Re: “Fuel

Came for lunch and ordered a few appetizers (3). Was told they were out of shrimp so had to change our order.
We waited for about 20 minutes until 2 of the 3 appetizers made it to the table and was told the last one would be out in a few minutes. THEN the waiter came back and said that the meat hadn't been taken out of the freezer the night before so they couldn't make the last appetizer.
At the rate that the food was coming out, we didn't want to wait another 20 minutes if we ordered something else.
The waiter didn't charge us for our drinks (ice tea and water) because of the appetizer issue.....big whoop.
Don't waste your time eating at Fuel.
Bad experience all around.
