Go here for the beers on tap, not the BBQ. It looks like a dive, and they sell dive-y food. Some times this is fine, but they charge standard BBQ prices, and serve you something that looks like they did anything but smoke it for a half day (maybe a little boiling, maybe a little gas grill). I don't know, it wasn't very BBQ to me. And worse, they didn't trim the gelatinous fat (and there was a lot of it) from their brisket before serving. The presentation was a sloppy looking pile of thinly sliced meat, 1/3 of it being fat, completely dripping in some sort of broth and it's own grease. It was wet and sloppy. I could have made the same dish with my crock pot. I wish this was an exaggeration.
I had my first dining experience at Smoky Oak Taproom last night. The best part of the meal was the beer. They had quite an interesting and unique selection, even though they didn't have the first couple I attemped to order.
The food was another story. My three dining companions and I all tried the BBQ. Between the four of us, we had the pulled pork, brisket, and ribs. We were all greatly disappointed in our food. The brisket and pork came out full of fat, watery, and seemed like it had been boiled. There was no hint of a smoky flavor. The macaroni and cheese looked delicious but lacked any flavor at all. The collards were way too sweet, as was the cornbread. The rice and hash was bland. The best part of the meal was the ribs my friend ordered, and they were just acceptable. I'm not one to leave food, but I left at least half of it there last night. I may go back for the beer but will definitely not eat there again.
It seems like many others had issues with the service, but we had no problems there. Our waitress was pleasant and attentive.
This place is the pits -- We took a group of nine there for lunch -- THe loudspeakers were right overhead blaring deafening music -- we cold not talk = It was so uncomfortable-- they could not hear us asking to tone it down a bit.. I will never go back --
This festival by far was the worst event I have ever attended. As a native New Yorker I have experienced a variety of cultural festivals and one should never try to adulterate a cultural event/experience. They only had one vendor selling Caribbean food, which was horrible. The rest were selling food you can find at a backyard BBQ? The parade consisted of maybe 7-10 people and only one person with a full carnival contest, the other person who was not of Caribbean descent had a partial custom on? This was a real disappointment and a shame that this event was supposed to represent a carnival/festival. They needed to better organize this event and advertise accordingly. The advertisement was truly deceiving and did not follow through with its promise. Beware of the events advertised in this city, it is never what they say it is or what you imagine it to be!
I cannot understand the glowing reviews of this place - GIVE ME A BREAK!
Not only is the food mediocre at best, and the service completely lame, but the place is located in an old gas station - yuck!
To the person who said the bartender put things on thier tab you are not the only one i had it happen to me and some of our friends have had it happen to them. I wonder if the bartenders are doing it and then spliting the money at the end of the night?? Something needs to be done. Me and my friends all said we would never go there again and i hope no one else does if they are going to run a business like that.
From a Folly Local: the service here is terrible. The bartenders can barely serve you even when the bar is empty.
Good luck in the winter with the local crowd to support you!
The Roadhouse was much better!
Security are d**ks!!! They have no idea what a rock concert is. DON'T go here for a rock show if you want to have cause they will kick you out. The Dive is exactly that a dive. Maybe if they lighten up it'd be worth it but not with the people they have working it now. Don't go here
The bartender's reaction when I simply asked if I could order some food made it perfectly clear I was being a horrible inconvenience to her.
Didn't stay for food. I don't need that crap.
Look I'm not a food critic, but I do have a lot of restaurant experience back of the house and front. That being said, first of all Triangle's location is perfect, the atmosphere was awesome. The service was okay, and the menu looked really interesting for a char grill. But the food me and my wife had was less than disappointing. The asparagus fries were flat and the aioli was like mayo and lemon......Horrible! We also tried all four of the egg rolls and the sauces, not worth the money at all! The Steak and Chicken skewers had no taste of lime or ginger at all. And the peanut butter I'm sorry "peanut sauce" was well, peanut butter. The champaign vinagerette was lame and had no signature. And the Pork loin platter was awful. The pork was cooked well but the the balsamic stuff tasted like pancake syrup, the sauteed spinach was like sauteed garlic with salt. Gross! The only thing worth anything on this platter was the sweet potatoe fries. Thank God they were out of the lamb flank because it would have been 3 extra dollars wasted. I wish I would have tried the burgers and maybe the comment would have been better but I wont go back to try my fate.
This place may rock on the weekends but it does nothing for you during the week. Had some dinner there with friends not to long ago. The food was so so, the cook must be sleep walking thru his/her cooking and the mixed drinks seem to be watered down. New inexperienced bar person I guess. Anyway I think there are a couple of other places in Summerville I would rather go to if I lived out there. Maybe thats the difference before Summerville and Charleston. Charleston folk expect the best and I guess if the best in Summerville is Montreux then the clientel is settleing for less than best, actually less the good. Must be a hick kind of thing.
Most definetly sounds like staff to me also. The last time I checked I lived in the United States of America where all citizens are entitled to their opinion. Don't tell this person HOW DARE HE, he can post his opinion on the internet if he wants!!!! Which by the way, when this place was McGuires it was awful, just because you change the name and gussie up the place doesn't mean the place is any better. McGuires...Montreux it is still pretty awful. They still serve drunks, they don't cut them off,the staff at one time showed improvement but they are back to ignoring you, texting or talking on their c phones or posting comments on this page about how wonderful Montreux is. What a SHAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I also live on James Island and went to Montreux with some friends who had heard it was worth the trip. I don't think its worth the trip. We were at the bar and the food was so so. Not worth the money they charged for it. The comments posted by "Roof" sounded a little too close to home. It sounds like an employee or owner trying to discredit other peoples opinion if their opinion is glowing with wonderful things about this place. Prehaps they should look up the word OPINION in the dictionary. You know the old saying....If you cannot take the heat, get out of the kitchen. I will not return to even try this place a 2nd time nor will I recommend it to anyone else.
For 2+ years now my wife and I have heard rave reviews for Fiery Ron's BBQ. We love BBQ, and trying new restaurants. We are definitley loyal if we love a particular place, and we often find ourselves recommending bars and restaurants to family and friends in and out of towners. We also go to Sullivans beaches nearly every weekend. So we walk into Hometeam very excited about trying out the place. It was around 3pm in the afternoon on a Sunday I think. We stood there in the doorway for at least 10 minutes with servers, bussers, bartenders, and probably managers walking by several times. It was busy, I will give them that, but we not so much as had a look in our direction. I've been in the food and beverage business for nearly a lifetime, and don't mind waiting for great food. What pisses me off more than bad service, is not even being acknowledged that we exist in that moment in time! So after being ignored for about a total of 15 minutes, and feeling like a dumbass for waiting that long, we left and went across the street to Poe's and once again had an enjoyable experience! To the staff, at least say "hello," or even "we will be with you in a few minutes." Terrible first impression there Ron. I'll take my $ down to that BBQ joint across from Buddyroe's.
decent food, Priced ok I guess. not a good atmosphere. The manager Lisa appeared to have no clue what was going on and the cook Mitch is kind of a jerk.
Have been to this place several times now. Have been reading all the posts. They are interesting. Some nights it is okay, some nights is chaotic in there. They do allow just about any one, drunk or sober. They never cut anyone off and the obnoxious drunks are allowed to stay. The place needs to be more consistent. It's like that also with the food. Sometimes its good and sometimes its bad. They haven't found a happy medium. They need to!!!
all the comments made me curious about the place so I visited. Didn't really think the place was any great standout. Wouldn't go back. Better places to go and drink and eat and listen to music. It's in line with Summerville....OLD
I went to this place. Told some friends to come out and i will meet them at the joint. So when my friends finally came I was leaving. The girl at the door just swiped my homeboy's card and he ask if he can get a refund because he did not go in. So the girl point to some hidden board behind her that so call say no refund. This club is a bunch of BULLShit!!! The girls here belong on the streets! They look very shitty. I've seen better!!! Regardless of the incident I would recommend somewhere else because this place is full of SHIT!!! Make a U turn!
It is possible that the Montreux staff are putting up these 5 star comments to prop the place up? Wow what a great way to generate business. Not very honest if true. The place is okay but nothing to write home about. They still let drunks in who bother other customers, they don't appear to cut off anyone who is so obviously drunk. The food, well what can I say, it isn't a 5 star kitchen turning out gourmet meals. Its bar food and not very good bar food. Between my friends and me we have ordered most of items the tiny little menu has to offer. It seemed there for awhile the place was getting better, now over the last 5/6 months it's turning back into McGuires but under a different name and different management. Oh well, it had the potential to be good, but it doens't quite get there....ever!
I have visited this place twice. Once last December then again this past March. It isn't the greatest place in the world and though its at low end of not good, I have unfortunately been to a place worse. The food coming out from the kitchen is very inconsistent. I had the shrimp and grits and it was good. I had them again in March and the shrimp was floating in fat. My friends also said they food was basically thrown togeather and tasted like cardboard. The drinks were definetly watered down. We paid our bill and left without any future notions of returning. There are far too many GREAT places to eat, drink and be entertained to spend our money at then to spend it here. As my friends and I read the prior comments we really wondered if the five star reviews were the work of employees. If so, very sad, very dishonest
