We've all had bad experiences in various places. Who's to say you weren't wasted and didn't need another round?? The Mill is what it is. A great place to escape the everyday Charleston scene. Always a handful of bad ass regulars, ready to sit and have a drink with you. Always a solid bartender or two ready to serve ya up a cold one, and generally some live music (which seems to be extremely under appreciated in this town now-a-day) kicking every night!!! How can someone knock a bar that supports local art as much as The Mill?? Granted you can smoke in there...if ya don't dig, ya don't have to go in!!! Welcome to North Chuck, where the local Gov doesn't sticks it's nose into everything a private business can and can't do...Grow up, and race back to City Bar...oh wait, that s*&thole closed down...how about anywhere else on East Bay Street? less Big John's of course (love ya!)..May The Mill rock on!! Ol' Blackbeard too!!
I came into town as part of a touring band and had probably the best experience of the four weeks we spent on the road. The staff from the owners to the bartenders were all extremely friendly and helpful and took great care of us. As one who has spent seven years working in bars (and many more frequenting them), I thought it was an ace staff top to bottom with great service, perfect drinks and just the right kind of food, in price and selection, for a hungry band on the road. They handled the lone out-of-line drunk you're going to experience in any crowded bar with professionalism AND authority, a hard balance to achieve.
Don't mean to gush, but The Mill is and will always be in my mind an oasis on the road.
The Mill is awesome. I don't know who has gotten a bug up their ass but the staff there is always quick and nice as hell. I would (and on many occasions have) welcome any of them into my home because that's the way they treat me and everyone else who does not act like a dickhead that goes in there. Those people rock.
The Mill is a great local bar with good food (especially considering their limited resources), a great beer selection, and fantastic local and regional music, that covers a huge variety of genres. The staff is fast and friendly, but also ALWAYS fair. They will know your drink of choice from the first time you walk through the door, and will have it ready for you, before you can even get to the bar (EVERY time).......but they also will not hesitate to kick you out, if you should happen to turn into that drunk A-hole that deserves it...regardless of who you are. Rest assured however, you can walk back through the door the very next day and the bartender will have your drink ready for you...even if it's the same bartender that kicked your drunk behind out, the night before.
Never had a bad time at the Mill, agree totally with CEdge. If a bartender anywhere is mad at someone, it's usually because they deserve it! Like the atmosphere of the Mill, it's what an actual BAR is supposed to be like!
The Mill RAWKS! It is def. one of the coolest places to hang in Charleston..the staff is on their toes and ready to serve...the have GREAT music...cool retro furniture... local art on the walls...and the food is actually purdy good...if you want to escape the douchbaggery of Charleston, and go somewhere cool, this is the place
You have to be out of your mind to even set foot in a disgusting smokehole like that. Zero stars.
one of the best bars in charleston, without a doubt. i love the hairy guy
When I go to the Mill, they have my drink ready for me before I even sit down. Thanks to Greg (aka Blackbeard) and the rest of the Mill staff for being so fantastic!
Some of the reviews I just read were so outrageous... Lets all grow up...Everyone gets served at the Mill with a smile and in a timely manner...Ol'Black beard or whatever childish nickname I read is my favorite bartender in Charleston. Love the Mill ...love Park Circle all round, pool tables, music...amazing art all over the place..an outdoor deck! You can smoke inside!!! I would like to put it out there...noones ever not been served for not being liked...but if your an ASSHOLE..no assumptions...then maybe I can see why they might not, but thats anybar anywhere! lmao I recommend that bar to everyone and get thanked constantly for the great heads up!! Come in and maybe I'll get you a shot...thats how it is there shots for everyone..have a good time... can't wait..trivia night tonight...I'll change your mind...
I love the kind of bar that is equipped with the type of staff that have your drink ready for you before you even sit down. I love a bar with a bitchin' juke-box. I love a bar with huge , tasty nachos. I love a bar that has more than dudes wearing the 'Charleston Uniform' behind it. All these reasons are why I love The Mill. Oh, and Greg, of course. The Mill has Greg and that, too is why I love the Mill!
The Mill is by far the best bar in North Charleston, no make that the entire Charleston area. The art, the music, the food, the events and of course the beer...no bar does it better. Don't listen to some of the idiotic comments posted, I've never met better bartenders. The bartender commented on the most respectable barkeep I've ever come across. You should be so lucky be served by him. Give respect to get respect.
I never had any problems at The Mill... staff has always been friendly. Never had a bad time there and the food was good.
I have seen some of the people the bartenders get mad at and they deserve it; and this is not tied to any particular bar.
I ordered some nachos from there and dudes hair was in it.I was half way threw before I noticed.I was devastated.I told ole Blackbeard but he didn't seem to care and offered no money back. That guy is a jerk.
If u want ur drinks hot, untimely and served by a bartender who is so drunk he can barely walk, please visit ur local hole in the wall bar, with no atmosphere, except for the enjoyment of an overly loud bad band and your bartenders with their shirts off and butt crack hanging out, (which by the way is against DHEC regulations) please visit wings. Two thumbs down isn't even justifiable. Horrible customer service, unexpressedly unprofessional, and if I wanted to see clowns sing karaoke and not serve me drinks I'll be sure to check out the county fair when it's in town again and not waste my money on hot alcohol and bad customer service, I'd rather see u pile out of clown car because at least their talents are worth a tip.
The bartender with the dreads is like the 'Soup Nazi' on the old Seinfeld show.He is frustrated because he is a life time bartender and the only power he has is to determine who to serve and who not to serve in a rat hole bar.
If you want to have some good food and excellent entertainment, then you need to go to Buddy Roe's Shrimp Shack in Mt Pleasant. Ronnie and Kim Johnson are two of the nicest people you will ever meet and when you go to Buddy Roe's they make you feel like you are family and they appreciate you coming there. Ronnie is the most talented person in the lowcoutry and we are so happy that we have a great place to go and hear first class entertainment. With the addition of his new chef Adam,Buddy Roe's Shrimp Shack only has one place to go and that is to the top of the list .
Thanks for all the good times and can't wait to try out your new menu.

Our favorite place in all of Charleston. The atmosphere is so laid back and Carolina Beach you want to kick off your shoes, have some shrimp and a cold one. Their food is all fresh, local and incredible. The owners Ronnie & Kim Johnson go out their way to make everyone feel they are the most important person in the place. Ronnie Johnson may be the best artist in the Southeast much less Charleston. You really got to hear & see his show. To sum it up, this is the place in Charleston for great food, great friends, and fabulous music.

What's not to like about Buddy Roe's? Lemon-pepper shrimp is scrumptious as are the home-cut french fries. Diane is a most attentive hostess at lunch. Music at night is great. Not only do you get to hear Ronnie and Kim Johnson perform, but he brings in great talent to accompany him (Chris, Tom). Ronnie and his wife, Kim, are wonderful hosts.
As for any of the complaints I've read, I question whether these people have let their servers know. I've always found that Ronnie and Kim will make it right. They're all about great service.
Been there for lunch, dinner and entertainment. Food is good. Lots of variety in the shrimp. Atmosphere is laid back and mature. Fun time all around.
