Dang, Jim, tough review. I live here and got excited when I just read about the moonpie store. If it wasn't raining today, i'd be going down there to sample some delicious favorites or try one of the newbies.
You go because it's a unique store and hopefully has some unique offerings. Moonpie is awesome and I hope it makes a serious comeback.
Nice to duck into for air conditioning, but now that anyone can buy Moonpies ANYWHERE in the world, I am not sure why I want to spend a ton of money to buy them on a vacation in Charleston SC - so that then I have to ship them back home... or put them in the car for the drive back home...
And, sitting in there to eat and drink expensive food that is bad for me is not exactly a good investment of my time on vacation in Charleston...
Still, the store itself is nice... just not sure WHY I'd ever want to go again -- or why I went in the first place.
Went by there this weekend and they had just opened up. Wonderful choices of oil, vinegar and rubs for meat and fish. Great that you can taste anything, even the rubs. We bought some oil and vinegar for ourselves and also for a hostess gift. I think this store is a bonus for King St.
grab a coffee and pastry and hit the beach, my sunday morning thing. I wish I lived on SI so I could stop there on weekdays as well.
Love this place!! Can't get enough of the Wednesday wine tastings!!
i am now a regular customer at elysium in brickyard plantation. the staff are always welcoming and comfortable to be around, and i always know that i'm in good hands when i come to get a haircut. this is the best salon that i've run across to date, and i have short hair, so i've been around! =)
thanks elysium! i'll see you next week!
This place is the BEST addition to Sullivan's Island!!! Coffee and espresso always hot, rich, and delicious...sweet treats are AMAZING, I don't think I've ever had a better piece of cake (coconut and carrot...can't wait to try the red velvet, they were out last time I went!). There used to be no where on Sullivan's to get a great latte and dessert, now there's a cute little cafe to do both! And I won't even go into how welcoming and wonderful the girl who owns the place (Michelle?) is. She even remembers what I get when I come in and I've only been there a handful of times! Oh yeah, they do WINE TASTINGS on Wednesday, often with live music, I can't wait to go to one!
A fantastic local boutique. The service is amazing and the clothes are beautiful, trendy but with a classic you can wear them forever touch. The sales people are so friendly and helpful; they suggest the best clothes that fit your style, coloring, and shape and always let you know when items are marked down. One of the best unknown shops on King Street!!
Just say NO to GUITAR CENTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you want guitars, amps and other gear at TRUE discount prices, go talk to Mike Davis, the owner of Ye Olde Music Shop. I've been buying from him since long before the evil Guitar Center came to Charlie Town, and Mike's always hooked me up with great prices! Before Guitar Center, he would always beat the Musician's Friend(Enemy) prices by leaps and bounds. Example given from a recent purchase: I purchased a fully loaded Paul Reed Smith Custom 24 with Artist Package (better than 10 top flamed maple, real leather display hardshell case, Brazilian Rosewood fretboard and headstock veneer, Paua shell bird inlays and Paua shell PRS signature in the headstock, Dark Cherry Sunburst with Dark Cherry stain on the rear of the body and neck). The cheapest I could find one of these new online anywhere was $3600.00. I purchased mine for $2799.00 plus tax. This is cheaper than the 10 top Custom 24's at Guitar Center!!! Go see Mike, trust me!!! Will "GLiDE" Mims
Re: “MoonPie General Store”
A terrific store. A SC Boys dream - Moonpies, RC Cola, and Young Plantations Pecans all under one roof. Excellent ice crea, hot dogs, and gifts. Bought the kids Moonpie shirts.
