Re: “South of Broadway Theatre Company Studios”
I saw this play over the weekend. I am so in love with it! This group of actors has choosen to do a play that puts the trail of Daniel Duncan right in your face. There are some in your face racist parts in the play that makes you see why this person was hung. The cast is very funny having one side of their face white, and one side black. All the actors play both black and white characters as well as role reversal. This is an eye opening play that you should come and see. Also it is a true story that happened 100 years ago, and 10/10 was the date of the trial of this poor man. Come support the arts and see a play that might make you change your mind!!!

All I can say is, INCREDIBLE!!! This was the best show I have ever seen, entertaining the entire time, and the two of them keep you engaged and focused on their act until the end (which comes much too soon)! It is a two-man variety show, with skits likened to SNL and MadTV. Extremely creative and witty, and the acting is amazing! As intelligent as these guys are, they probably could have made technological leaps and bounds for the world, but their audiences are sure glad they turned to comedy instead! I would not be surprised to see their show on TV, so go catch the live act while you can!

I saw the female cast perform the other night, and it was HILARIOUS! Who knew Flowertown could be so funny! I loved it. The woman who played the uptight, clean friend made me laugh harder than I've laughed in a long time. Taking my mom on Mother's Day so I can see it again!

The Groundhog Day Benefit Concert for the Halsey Institute featuring The Opposite of a Train was my first performance at Memminger Auditorium. I feel the hall has a nice resonance and an intimate yet spacious feel. I'm looking forward to more shows at Memminger in the future.

I had the privilege to see The Miracle Worker and it is rare to see a beautifully conceived, performed and directed show in Charleston that isn't associated with Spoleto and even then you're not guaranteed of a satisfying evening in the theater. Although Footlight Players is the oldest community theater in Charleston, this year it has produced quality work that is far and above the mediocrity that is being passed off by professional theaters. I urge everyone who likes character development and creative set design, costumes, music and directing to see this inspirational play. Later this year, The Miracle Worker will have a revival on Broadway with Abigail Bresslin as Helen. If you can't get to New York I urge you to see this production. The play is rarely performed not because it isn't good, but it's not easy to find young actresses to play the roles of Helen and Annie. Trust me this production is worth attending not only for families but for all those people who love good acting and good theater. Oh, did I mention there is a dog who acts on cue. It is a drama but there are a lot of laughs on the way.

Wonderful venue for watching awesome upcoming artists at the high school level. The site is comfortable and most events are free!
Last December I will say that The Christmas event, which is upcoming on December 8th, was better that many pops concerts I used to pay to see in Indianapolis. I highly encourage you attend if you can. My only concern is that the venue is eventually going to be too small for all those wanting to see young talent!

No other facility in Charleston offers, under one roof, classes ( both in-house and outreach ), inexpensive studio space and great shows. That said, the physical facility should expand or move, to showcase better this wide range of much-needed program; all this, and non-profit too. Great job by its new staff!

I agree, the play was absolutely perfect, polished, and side-splittingly hysterical! Suzie was truly remarkable as Madame Arcati, I often found myself chuckling in response to her body gestures; at the unique sounds that burst from her mouth, and then, of course, at the outstanding delivery of the brilliant dialoque that Coward gifted her character!
All of the other actors were superb as well. As was mentioned in another review, I particularly enjoyed Helena Ball who plays a smaller supporting role, Edith, the maid. Her comedic timing was truly spot on! You have little choice but to literally guffaw in response to her facial gestures or her "baby step shuffle".
The role of Charles can be a very tough one, but the interpretation of his character appropriately built up in intensity. He was never over the top, which allowed many of the other characters to shine with their dialogue. A true sign of a great actor!
I could go on and on about the other actors as well, all delivered truly amazing performances! I implore all that have not yet gone, to go see Blithe Spirit. You will not be disappointed!!!

Great production and fun for the whole family in the spirit of the season. Susie Hallatt is absolutely hilarious and so cute you will wish you had her as your next door neighbor to invite over for tea. Charleston Stage did a great job and this show is definitely one worth planning a night for.

I just returned from watching 'Power Play', showing 11/20/10 and 11/21/10.
The show itself was very well done. It had comedic moments, but with a serious undertone to it referencing both the power struggles of High School as well as the need to maintain one's individuality. There were 5 actresses total, but one stood out among the rest and I wanted to comment on her.
While all the girls played their parts well, Rachel Dalton stood out in only the most positive way. She was funny, vibrant and seemed very at home on the stage. More than a few times her antics caused the entire audience to laugh, even at times it didn't seem to be in the script. I also sensed some ad-libbing here and there, and if that is indeed what it was, she did so flawlessly. I personally look forward to returning to the theater again, and would love to see her on stage in the future!
