Get over to one of the Best Kept Secrets in Charleston!!!!!
Where has this place been all my life.
Awesome food, great service, and they let you enjoy the food. I love prompt attentive service that does not interfere with enjoying the meal. A true pleasure. I live in town and plan on going back this weekend and staying there. It is rare that a place this expensive lives up to the reputation. i will tell my friends and they willl love me.
You will find a series of highly negative reviews at the beginning of the review section, I know the person that set this up and he made it his mission to try to reflect poorly on this great establishment, putting a multitude of negative reviews up in succession in the hope that you wont take the time to notice all of the great reviews that follow. He is the kind of customer you hope you never have in your restaurant. I have been with him several times when he orders food, nearly finishes his dinner, then sends it back, refusing to have something else served, or to pay his bill. This night in particular, the host made a point of checking with him to see if his food was OK, as he had sent it back, unpaid 3 times in succession, and they were on to his game. He got caught, and didn't like it. I finally quit going to dinner with him.
Our personal experience with Hall's is one of complete enjoyment of the food, the staff, and the over-all experience. Come join us for one of our City's best dinner establishments.
All these other fools do not know what quality food and service is about. They should stick to food joints like Hyman's and they can get an affordable plate of tasteless food and service with no personability.
Sorry, I don't see a problem with being treated warmly and graciously. We had a group dinner on Thanksgiving evening, the place was packed, and we all had one of best dinners we've ever had. My husband is a steak lover, and he ranked Hall's higher than Grill 225, Neil Jordan's and Oak. The service was outstanding, the specialty cocktails were great. This is our new go-to place.
I went back to Oak for the first time in a long time the Friday before the Bridge Run with some folks from out of town. I have to say that the recent (4/6/11) CP review is dead on. I was not really impressed with Oak under McKee's hand, but I really liked the changes Bacon has made. The restaurant itself is a wonderful location and was preserved/appointed beautifully, so I give full credit to the original ownership/management there. I had the bone-in ribeye, and my wife said her filet was as good as any she's ever had in terms of both quality of meat and preparation. One of our party ventured off the beef train and had the new snapper dish...outstanding. Unlike Grill 225, Oak wisely acknowledges the trade-off of being downtown and provides complimentary valet parking, a must for a high-end urban restaurant. With the food now on par with the rest of the experience, I will now return to Oak with greater frequency and anticipation.
This is not only the best steak, but everything else is just so perfect. If you ever have a chance to try to truffled risotto, you will never forget it. Amazing.
We recently went for my boyfriend's birthday. Yes, it's pricey, but totally worth it for the food and the experience! Great service, great view, amazing wine list!
Oak Steakhouse is unparalleled in service and fine food! As a matter of fact when we go elsewhere we are disappointed. Each item on the menu is prepared well beyond all expectations. The entire staff is involved in delivering the best hospitality, as well as premiere service from beginning to end. The food is prepared by caring chefs who are quite visible to all customers. The amount of food in each side dish is plenty for the entire table. It is not cheap nor is it intended to be. So when you want the very best food and culinary experience, Oak is the number 1 choice in Charleston. Not to mention that you never have any problem parking at this Historic restaurant because the valet staff is right on target too.
Love Neil Jordans. The Allen Brothers steaks are incredible. Atmosphere good and in particular, the bar area rocks, especially when Allen is holding court behind the bar. Allen is great at what he does and is the 2nd best bartender in a 2 mile radius!
Go one and you'll be hooked! Neil Jordans is a dining destrination experience-especially the bar!
Have always wanted to eat here, and finally two weeks ago I stumbled in here one evening because I was entertaining a client who was fiending for a steak. We breezed through to a table, was sat down and was greeted VERY nicely.
My client however, was very, very picky about the wine she wanted. Honestly, she must have sent back 5 glasses. I was embarrassed, and wanted to hide, being local. But the waiter sensed this, and was ultra, ultra gracious, friendly, and very knowledgaeble on wines., and finally found my client a great glass she liked.
I ordered the scallops. HOLY COW were they GREAT! Like, seriously good. I tasted the steak, too. Outrageous. All the sides were DELISH!
I asked around...seems like Halls is doin' it right, everyone seems to have had an excellent meal there. This is really good to have on King street, a dedicated Steak House, with great staff that serves up awesome fare.
Thanks Halls...I will be back FOR SURE!!!
So easily 5 stars. Yay.
Their new menu is AWESOME!! Most people I know love this restaurant, and obviously people have to enjoy it for them to stay open. They have awesome happy hour drink specials and now they are doing a special for families or groups that come in on Thursdays! I'm trying it out tonight with some friends that are in town! They are also doing wine paired 5 course dinners every third Wednesday of each month. I can't wait to try that as well!
A tue family run jewl off a Steakhouse! I have made it the staple of my weekend to treat myself to a great steak and the creamed spinach is like dessert...Anyway Andrew at bar great job! and the owners have already made me feel like im family...after a long week Ill pay a little extra to be treated a little over the top...and thats what this place is an over the top NY Style chophouse, and the piano jazz...wrapp it all together perfect
The first time I went to Halls I took my parents and it couldn't have been a more enjoyable night. The food was delicious and the owners came and introduced themselves and came back throughout the night making sure everything was ok. Some people may call this intrusive, I call it quality service. They seem to care very deeply about the customers having a good meal. I've been back to Halls numerous times and each time has always been a good experience. Those that had a "horrible" first experience, give them another try. They might surprise you.
At last outstanding service has arrived in Charleston. Had dinner there last night and loved every minute of it. This family want you to have an experience, and they defintely deliver! Food and service were impeccable. I am so happy that they were still seating people at 10:40pm at night. No more 9pm closings in Charleston!!!! Fun atmosphere, and worth every penny.
Excellent Food, Wonderful Service, Gracious Host. Refreshing old school throwback restaurant that really can not be beat! At least not in the sea of fried foods and chain restaurants that are all over Mt. P. Highly recommend brunch and dinner here. I have eaten here 8 times now and never been let down.
Amazing steaks and seafood! Have been a few other times and it is getting better and better. The staff was very good! Even spent time again with the owners and they make you feel at home. This is a special place!
After being invited by a friend to Hall's, my husband and I were more than pleased with the amazing service and lovely atmosphere. I was happy to have a great time with good friends in a place not overpopulated with college kids. We enjoyed the food and music. We were warmly greeted and enjoyed great interaction with the family/owners as well as some of the other staff. The food was fantastic! Halls has become our new favorite place and we have already gone back twice!
Best burgers in all of Charleston! Amazing Oysters Rockefeller and bread pudding. I can't wait to try the steaks!
Re: “Oak Steakhouse”
This is one of my favorite downtown restaurants. I have tried every appetizer and always been impressed. I am not sure if I like dry aged beef enough to splurge on that cut of steak (NY Strip) again, but it was definitely tasty. The truffle fries are some of the best in Charleston. I have been here 3 times, ordered multiple items, and never had a bad meal. Jeremiah is a wonderful chef and I love what he has done with the menu. I would definitely recommend Oak if you are looking for some high end dining on the peninsula.
