its been awhile but I have been to Alessandra's many times and I do not understand why there are no stars for the rating. The fettucine alfredo is superb! It tastes so fresh, you can tell that there is the freshest cream and butter in the sauce. They have one of the best tiramisius around. It is a very pleasant quiet spot for great food and service!
Had dinner there tonight. I called ahead for reservations but got the machine... undeterred we walked up around 8:30 and got a seat immediately. The decor is very classic, old-city European. The lighting is candelight-toned and just made the place feel good. Yes it is dim, but I had no problem discerning the menu or any parts of my meal... but different strokes and all that.
The service was very attentive throughout the meal, from the host/greeter to our server Abby to the expediter. We never felt ignored but also not smothered. The wine list looked thorough, but I didn't really peruse it, opting instead for a single-barrel bourbon to go with my octopus appetizer. The complimentary foccacia came with a dash of very fragrant olive oil on our bread plates, but most of it was dedicated to the arrabiata sauce on the octopi.
That dish was done perfectly. I loved it... the texture, flavor, and presentation all hit the high notes. If you don't like many-legged invertebrates, it probably wouldn't be worth it, but if you do you might appreciate how difficult it is to cook them and maintain a tender feel. Yum and double-yum.
Our server was quite patient with our request to order entrees after we'd gotten into the appetizer. We had the artichoke ravioli (in a cream sauce that was pretty much a guaranteed winner) and asparagus soup. The meal was consistently delicious and well-presented, with the different textures in both dishes presenting clearly but harmoniously. The temperatures for everything was ideal, right down to the water, so clearly a better experience for us than some.
We had a nice long chat with Abby after dinner and it was nice to get more than the "schmooze until they tip" level of interaction. The bill was very reasonable, and would have been more so had I resisted the temptation for a big ol' glass of Kentucky's finest. Definitely a quality addition to Upper King, and a place that I will recommend to my friends.
My husband and I stopped in during Design Walk. We took advantage of the special offer of a free sampler plate when we bought two glasses of wine. The wine list was fantastic and reasonably priced. Everything on the sample plate was great. The house made mozzarella was rich and delicious, the olive oil cured anchovies were surprisingly good and not overly fishy, and the cured meats were great. The Kobe meatball was a bit dry, but they are aware of the issue and are working on it. They'd only been open two days and it was free, so I'm not going to hold one it against them! By this time the torrential downpour had started so we decided to get another glass of wine and try more food. We selected the duck confit over ravioli in a mushroom cream sauce. It was unbelievably good. Also, the bartender recommended an absolutely perfect wine pairing for the dish. All in all, we were happy we had stopped in and had such a pleasant place to ride out the rain. We will definitely return.
Well made Italian food, nice atmosphere/location. Really nice wine selection. I'd say it lived up to our expectations, which were fairly high.
We agreed that we've had better Italian, but this is a close second.
There is room for improvement... our server rushed us and seemed disinterested in describing the dishes, for example.
I ordered a special that they had that included vegetables and scallops--my favorite. The dish portion was huge (gave me three meals for the price of one), and quite delicious. However, I did have to wait for a while because the first dish I received wasn't the one I'd originally ordered. Honest mistake, and the manager made sure that I was fine with everything, so the service was great as well.
I took my sweetie here for our wedding anniversary on Tuesday. We were very pleased. I had the veal special with pasta; she had the chicken piccatta. Her only complaint was that it was a tad heavy on the capers. We will definitely return.
Wow, its unfortunate that dsharlee had such a bad experience at Capriccio's- it's one of my favorite spots. My husband and I typically get the Caesar Salad and the Eggplant Parmesan entree and split it- with the plentiful bread and olive oil we don't go hungry. He gets a beer (which comes in a small bucket of ice) and I get a glass of wine. One of the things that we love about it is that the wait staff is encouraged not to turn the tables quickly- so, if you want your check, ask for it. We love not feeling rushed. The casual atmosphere and seeing the owner at every visit makes this a very special place.
Have been several times over this past summer and always leave in a joyous mood. The wine list is fantastic as is the wait staff's knowledge of the wines, the alluring Italian ambiance is always apparent whether inside or in the courtyard, and the food is terrific, adding up to a lovely experience that myself and numerous friends of mine thoroughly enjoy. Also, the Mushroom ravioli is out of this world.
it's been awhile since i reviewed this place but was so impressed with today's lunch that i figured i would give them another great review. I went alone today and had a very nice experience. ordered the prosciutto sandwich with mozzarella, basil and tomato. The prosciutto was sliced nice and thin and melted in your mouth, the mozzarella was so soft and fresh, and the tomatoes delicious. the sub roll was slightly toasted and warm, giving the bread a slight crunch. All drizzled with EVOO. Just a great lunch. Thanks again!
Had a delightful lunch at Bella Napoli today. This is a very nice establishment to enjoy a good meal. The atmosphere was friendly, clean and there was no smell of stale smoke. I enjoyed the Salsiccia Pasta. Our waiter was very attentative without being a nuisance. I will return for another meal.
I think that this place is a great bang for your buck restaurant. The gnocchi with garlic and mushrooms are out of this world, really little pillows of wonderfullness! It is not a foodie type of place and the atmosphere is not great, but for a neighborhood favorite where you can all get a nice meal for not too much money it cannot be beat, and did I mention the gnocchi???
My daughter is writing this review bc she and my husband went out without me.
La Tabella's service and food was very good. There have been alot of changes from the old set up (Lombardi's). There is even a small bar inside for all you people who want to chill out in a nice small place (they have half price wine specials by the glass on certain days).
We ordered the Manicotti and the Penne Bologenese. They were both delicious. They were well cooked and came out quickly and hot.
The service was quick and the waitress was very attentive, she always made sure we were perfectly content during our time there.
We are so lucky we have a great Italian place close to our home... we will definatley be visting there again soon.
Loved the food from the first and have been back with friends as often as I can. Vegetarian offerings are important to me, and theirs are great. Friendly, affordable, delicious. Tiramisu is wonderful, so save room for it.
We went to Il Cortile after the Mike Moran Furniture show at Rebekah Jacob Gallery. Wonderful little Italian place, Sicilian wine by the glass, nice salads, and stellar home-made gnocci. Service seemed a little in the weeds, but there were so many people we knew that kept showing up, we stayed. A great little place on lower King Street to chill and plan the next Italy trip.
