I cannot stand Halls, it's a fake uppidy place for tourists. If you like paying twice the money for a drink, and being rubbed on by the elephants that go in there it's perfect for you. Also if you like being creeped on by the weirdo sons there it's just additional icing on the cake.
I've only been to Sweeney's once so far, but it seems like a great addition to John's Island. They've worked wonders with Normandy Farm's old space, and the menu items my table tried were nice, too (crab salad, scallops). It has a nice mix of meaty and veg-friendly dishes. It's also pretty flexible in terms of price. You could go big with fairly expensive entrees, or order a sandwich for a modest dinner out. I hope it gets enough support to keep opening for lunch - with Fat Hen and Wild Olive both shuttered during the day, it really fills a gap, then!
Went expecting to highly dislike this place (NOT a vegetarian) and left there in love! I can not get enough of their portabello burger. Their salads are all good - I tried them all at this point. I actually feel good about what I ate when I leave and not my usual "Ugh should not of eaten that". This is a well needed break from my usual dining and I try to go at least twice a week lately. I recommend their brunch to everyone!
I am very disappointed in the Down Town Charleston La Hacienda Restaurant. I enter the establishment on July 17th with prospective customers for a lunch . To my surprise the Bar area had just been fleshly painted with a Red Varnish. After have the paint stick to my brand new White Shirt, i informed the Manager Pablo who tried to explain to me i should not have touched the Bar because it was wet. "A little late after i have done so, don't you think?"
Either way, this indecent could have been prevented by tapping of the area with a NOTICE of WET PAINT like most restaurant that care about there costumer. This action was completely Negligent by the restaurant. After speaking with the Manager he assured me if the Paint could not be remove by the Cleaners, La Hacienda would pay for the Shirt. After 3 Calls, 2 visits Management and the Owner has decided to ignore my complaint.
This will now become a legal matter, for much more. For this I give them a rating of ZERO!!!
I find these reviews a bit confusing. First, we have these reviews of a rather overpriced, over friendly steak house, with mediocre food and high prices. Then we have the complete opposite thoughts of 5 star rated experiences. Nothing in between. I start to wonder if the 5 star are being sent in by friends or owners of Halls. If you really want to put them in their place, join Trip Advisor and review the place. If you had a good time, tell them. If it was not so great an adventure, let them know. I've been there, and it was over priced and very underwhelming. I told Trip Advisor and felt I had done a justice to those who will consider visiting in the future. If you are going to spend over $100.00 per person in this town, the visit needs to outstanding in every respect.

Something has been brought to my attention: East Bay Deli employees have informed my best friend that the manager of the restaurant pockets the gratuities from all credit card and debit card transactions; so, be aware that this selfishness diverts all your well-meaning electronic tips from the rightful hands of the servers and staff directly into the accounts of management.
In my opinion, this greedy practice must come to an end.

These people are about the weirdest family I've met in the restaurant business. The dad has no personality and never says more than 3 words, the mom looks like she's from another century and is always so old and tired looking and the the two sons constantly come by your table to see what your eating, like staring at your food and watching you eat. The slick looking son always has this grin plastered on his face and takes after his dad in that he only has a vocabulary of about 10 words. I have to go there for business dinners every month or so, and most everyone complains or has comments on the family members. Alot of locals don't go there because of complaints about the family being overbearing. They do well with tourists though.

I personally like the place. Never had trouble with the service. We really like the wings, as they are huge and spiced just right. But the sandwiches are to die for! Where else can you get duck, pork belly, wonderful Reubens, and other well prepared meats in a great bun? I come down from Summerville a couple of times a month just to eat there. Around Happy Hour, expect to wait on an inside table. Families are there, as well as college kids, and everything in between. The duck fries are unique to the Moose, and are delicious. I'll definitely be back. I hope those who did not like their first experience try them again.

Chicken fried when you order it, fantastic sides, and syrupy sweet tea - what's not to like?
I really enjoy the pies. Zappo's is easily the best I've had away from NY or Boston.
This one of the better joints in town. They have a handful of very well prepared and creative gourmet sandwiches. Duck fat fries are pretty hit and miss, unfortunately, but I don't mind rolling the dice on them. Good beer selection as well.
Decent bar food. Not good by any means, but not horrible. Service was tolerable. You won't hate going here, but there's really no special reason to go there either.
I love Dukes BBQ and have been going there to eat or take home since 1959. Great place to eat I would recommend it to everyone. Please post your hours of operation on this website. Lots of people want to know.
Closest I have had to NY Pizza down in Charleston; streets ahead of Andolinis or Mellow when it comes to pizza. Just wish I knew when they would actually be open.
I have lived in Charleston for over 5 years and have been ordering from D’alls since the beginning. I have been highly disappointed the last few times I have ordered. First, the staff answering the phone has a tendency to be rude, especially the person working at 9:05 on Sunday, June 14th. I was put on hold for over 5 min and hung up on. I had to call 2 more times until someone answered. The guy was super rude and told me 45 min. 1:20 min later pizza arrived. Pizza was cold by then and my salad that I ordered had no dressing and was charged extra for ordering it. I've always loved your pizza but am starting to notice a decrease in quality. There seems to be a lot of inconsistency which I understand can happen with staff issues. I plan to order again at some point and both the rudeness of the staff and overall experience needs to improve or it will be my last time. I'm no restaurant expert, but I do believe the problem lies with your staff. I've enjoyed many pies from your establishment and hope things can turnaround so I can continue to support you guys.
