Re: “The Wreck of the Richard and Charlene

"This is not the place for the tourist who wants to be spoiled. Thankfully their reviews are caustic and advise others to steer clear of The Wreck."

Many of us reviewing this place are locals and have very specific complaints, and these complaints have nothing to do with decor, dress, or atmosphere.

This is not the place for the tourist who wants to be spoiled. Thankfully their reviews are caustic and advise others to steer clear of The Wreck.

The absence of overly dressed people with strange accents isn't missed by the locals or thankfully the management. It is authentic creek side fish-shack environment - a great local favorite.

Re: “O'Brion's Pub & Grille

Be prepared to walk through a cloud of cigarette smoke as you enter. Seems they could put that out back.

Once the food was very good, now not so much.

Re: “DeSano Pizza Bakery

Went there for the first time this weekend for lunch and was very pleased. The pizza is fantastic, perfectly cooked, authentic, delicious. I really don't understand the reviewers saying that the layout or ordering process is confusing. It is abundantly clear that you order at the counter when you walk in. I like the element of surprise, seeing the ovens blazing as you come around the corner. We will definitely be repeat customers.

Re: “Loggerhead's Beach Grill

Don't understand the negative review. I've been twice and everything was great. Fresh seafood which isn't always easy to find. Very attractive interior and exterior. GO there.

Re: “Loggerhead's Beach Grill

Ever wonder why the people around here hate those from New Jersey?
Spend some time with the owners of this place and you will know why.

Re: “Jestine's Kitchen

Just came home from Charleston, SC and had to make sure I left a comment! This is the BEST place if your looking for some good ole soul food!! I had the fried flounder, mac & cheese, fried okra & coca cola chocolate cake and it was FABULOUS!!! Also tasted the collard greens & corn bread, oh it was delicious too!! Very reasonable cost and the best service!!! Yes, the wait is well worth it!! Can't wait to go back, makes my mouth water just thinking about it!! Wish I could have tasted everything!!

Re: “Butcher & Bee

I ate at the Chickin Chickin truck at the beer festival Saturday. Simple wings were 6 wings for $7.00. I guess they had you by the fuzzies so you'd be forced to pay those outlandish prices. I'll eat beforehand before I go to another Beer Garden. Prices for both the Garden and all the food out there has become very, very expensive.

Re: “Butcher & Bee

Does "trendy" mean over-priced? Seems to be the "trend" in new food places these days.

Re: “Snapper Jack's Seafood & Raw Bar

Wow where do I start with this nightmare. I am a pretty easy going guy, rarely send food back or complain. It was a busy Friday night at Folly Beach but Snapper jacks wasn't too busy, we waited at the bar, had a good beer and were seated at the table in about 10 minutes. After about 20 minutes our drinks were about gone and we were curious where our waitress was, the hostess found her sitting at the next table next to us with friends, I had noticed her there when we sat down, she was there the entire 20 minutes and laughing with the friends I didn't think she was a waitress. The waitress, Lauren, came over and took our drink order, we ordered soon after and that's where the nightmare started. After about an hour we wondered what had happened to our food, there really wasn't many people eating in this place. About an hour 15 one plate came out, and it took another 15 minutes to get the rest. my chicken was paper thin, cold and dry as rubber, whatever the flatbread shrimp thing was was burned on the bottom and the Salmon was 1/2 inch wide and 3 inches long, for $18 REALLY!!, I have had bigger and better Salmon at Sams as a sampler. The only decent plate was the fried shrimp, tough to screw that up. I gave my plate back to Lauren the waitress and our friend returned the burned flatbread thing and asked for an appetizer which she got quick, it was only shrimp dip, pretty bland btw. The manager came over about 15 minutes later, his name was Jay, he did the typical manager "i'm sorry but I really don't care" routine and said he would look into why our food was so bad, so late and so separated in delivery, I didn't expect to see him again and I wasn't disappointed. So after the chicken and flatbread thing was removed we still owed almost $100 between 4 people, friggen insane for the night we had in that place. I have been in Charleston for almost 20 years and have never had such an experience. We will never go back there, and I tell everyone I know the same, I hope tourists read this and stay clear as well. Lauren find another job, maybe involving a pole, Jay I heard there's a opening at McDonalds, you're a poor excuse for a manager, you weren't that busy you couldn't take care of paying customers

Re: “Leyla

Been there three times and had excellent food and service every time. Love the food and am sure you will, too. Way too long for Charleston to get a good Lebanese restaurant.

Re: “Butcher & Bee

sounds interesting, but at those prices I don't think I'll go and try it. That seems to be the trend in Charleston. Overly expensive food, small portions, and one is supposed to feel satisfied just because you eat here or there. I'll keep my hard earned money to go to a place that is comfortable, good for value, and doesn't try and be trendy or overtly "different". I would imagine we won't see many of these places around next year. Bad business models, to be sure.

Re: “Butcher & Bee

This place is like eating at a food truck. It's a small menu with trendy food that is a bit pricy for what it is and not that tasty. Save yourself some money and go to Five Loaves and get a salad and sandwich for the same price.

Re: “Barsa Tapas Lounge & Bar

The restaurant was nice and full and had a great atmosphere. The service at the bar started off great. Awesome wine by the glass and lots of traditional tapas. All of the food we had was awesome. The dates were crispy and tasty. Croquettes were the perfect crispness on the outside and lovely and runny on the inside. We also ordered pan con tomate ans were disappointed to see that it was already made. The enjoyable part of this dish is rubbing your own garlic and tomato on the bread. It was more of a bruschetta than the traditional dish with a tomato sauce (Italian style) on top than fresh tomato.
The weird part though was once our glass of wine was finished I wanted another one and couldn't get one. Both bartenders looked at my glass and they instead refilled our water twice, but never asked if we wanted another glass. They then spent time cleaning up the bar and refilling their water container instead of refilling people's wine glasses. Shame as the rest of the night was lovely. Oh well, we will try again, and hopefully I can enjoy two glasses of wine.
Still try going. Great food and the most authentic I have had in Charleston outside of Spain.

Re: “Christophe Artisan Chocolatier-Pâtissier

They have delicious chocolates, baked goods, coffees, and even baguettes; Where can I get a salami sandwich for myself and a blueberry dark chocolate bar for my wife and then two cups of coffee to wake us both up after? Christophe, that's where.

Re: “Raul's Maya del Sol

The price point on food and the quantities are pretty good. The lunch specials are priced really well. And yes, I like the fresh and made to order aspect of the food. Absolute thumbs up on the guacamole. Plus when it is not too crazy, Raul himself will come out and socialize with the patrons. It's definitely not the food from the frozen aisle of the store junk like La Ha or Los Arcos. The only critique I may have is at times the servers don't seem to be fully informed of all the items on the menu, i.e. ask a question and they might be able to answer, but more often than not it has been "let me go ask".
