I loved this restaurant. We sat outside and ate breakfast. The food was wonderful...especially the pumpkin and banana bread! The customer service was excellent. We will definitely be going back!
It's a good thing James Beard isn't alive to experience this "award winner." All hype. No substance. They spend more time on the logistics of filing busloads of tourists in and out than they do on their actual food. The biscuits are dry. The grits are bland. The food is overpriced. Not worth the wait even if there weren't a wait. It's the Hyman's of breakfast.
I love this place. So country looking, yet serving gourmet food, really. My favorite is the tomato wrap embracing sauteed spinach and cranberries, toasted pecans, and feta cheese. But everything is yummy and pleasing.
Come on y'all. This Diner rules! (Mt pleasant)
--just a happy customer.
I agree! BD in Mt. P is great, though I haven't been since they first opened. I was excited to see one on JI. Food was ok but everything was really sweet and nothing to send raves about. My meatloaf was the best thing on the table.
Sweet potato soup tasted like they put way too much honey in. We ate it for dessert. And my cornbread tasted like cake. bleh! Waitress didn't seem to care either.. her response was that the Mt.P diner served a cornbread that well, tasted like corn i suppose. Others at my table got one of the specials - beef ravioli which didn't mentioned they were fried. They were ok but prob wouldn't have ordered them had we known. Curious to try the fried pickles..
Recent visit with a table-full of diners was ok. However, more food was left on the plates than was consumed. And, that's not because the portions were too large.
James Island Boulevard Diner is now open for breakfast. We serve great omelettes, shrimp and grits, pancakes & so so so much more!
Fantastic breakfast. I had a poached egg over crab meat and a fried green tomato on an english muffin... I've been craving it ever since.
Awesome biscuits and gravy... be prepared for a short wait on weekends... well worth the wait :)
i have been in the restaurant business 35 years and there is nothing as frustrating as being busy , having people waiting for tables, and having "campers".
However, that's the business. These things happen and if you ask people to leave it is hard to beleive they will come back.
They lost these customers and with this economy i would be hesitant to lose any. If this restaurant is the one i am thinking of, it is large enough that something would have opened up for the people in the foyer.
Being semi-regular customers, my friend and I were having breakfast a few months ago at the Blue Rose cafe. We had been there less than an hour, had finished breakfast and were enjoying our coffee when the cook/manager came from out of the kitchen to tell us that they "don't usually let people stay this long". (There were two people in the foyer that we had not noticed) We were basically asked to leave. It was humiliating. I wrote them a letter and will not return to restaurant that values the bottom line more than the feelings of their customers.
Awesome food...shrimp & grits are especially good.
My wife and I frequent this place for dinner or some ice cream. Richard's staff is very accommodating, friendly, and eager to serve and socialize. The prices are excellent, and the sandwiches are very tasty. They were among the first in Olde North Charleston village to be a free WiFi hot spot. They even have a water dish outside for the doggies!
I love this little coffee shop! The first time I drove around Park Circle to look for a home, I stopped by this coffee shop and the owner served me and was so welcoming, that I felt that this community was the place for me to live. I moved to PC and two years later, Park Circle Coffee n more (plus the addition of the Doghouse- yummy hot dogs and veggie dogs too!) is the local Park Circle hangout for delicious brunches, excellent lunches, and gourmet dinners. This little eclectic spot is a must try place!
good hot dogs now that they expanded. cold beer too.
Best pimento cheese I've had in a long ass time.
strongly recommended, warm atmosphere and friendly staff (with wi-fi as well).. how can you beat that? don't miss out if you're in the area :)

DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE!! Over priced, over rated and if you like crappy service with an attitude... this is the place for you.
