Manny's Mediterranean Cafe on George St has the best Gyros I have had in years - fresh and delicious - a must. Great service and a very comfortable experience - can't wait to go back for more
What happened to Manny's? I remember it as a great place to get an gyros sandwich... now it's just some dried up meat splapped on stale bread with gross sauce.
Time to find good Greek food, when is the festival?
Zeus - oh my God! We just came back from the worst food experience ever. Longing for a McDonald's burger. Zeus calls itself a Greek restaurant, but has not even the Disneyland flair of that country. Any Greek national would run away. Sterile, empty, no music, atmosphere like, no wait worse than in a Burger King. We ordered from the well overpriced menu the calamari as appetizer. Bland, needed lots of salt. We forced half, then gave it back. Then came the salad which comes with my Gyro platter. Fresh out of the fridge! Lettuce, one tomato, one slice of cucumber! They really go all out. By the way, the calamari come without a slice of lemon. The Greek way! Lol. Gyro platter! The pride of a Greek restaurant! You cannot go wrong. Been to Greece many times. Delicious! Here, I should have gotten a doggie bag. Literally, my dog would have liked it, but for 13,95, it was too expensive, so we gave it back as it was not eatable and over salted. We had to pay $8 for the salad and microwaved soup. As the manager, a real fair skinned Irish told me the place has been in business for 35 years. They need the money! He must have a rare tongue decease as he told us that he was in Greece and still likes the food at Zeus. If you have extra money to give away, go to Zeus. They gladly take it. You will leave hungry. Great diet!
The food is okay but the patrons are awful. And if you chose to sit outside, prepare to be glared at by the waitstaff...
People here are ridiculous. North Towne is crap. Its not even run by Greeks, its not authentic food. They were good, back in 2000-2002, but they are horrible now. They are the Captain D's of Greek Food. Continental Corner is humble and feels like a little slice of Greece dropped in Summerville. The food is fresh and delicious. I haven't been to Opa Cafe, but they are certainly measures above North Towne and the Olympik Restaurant.
Great food! Typical decor but that doesn't matter to me - it's all about the food. I love the gyros and my son LOVES the seasoning on the french fries. I have yet to be disappointed by anything. Worth the drive.
Just got back from OPA Cafe. They have the best Gyros and homemade tzatiki in the tri-county area! The Greek Salad is to die for! The Greek meatballs and Leg of Lamb is so fresh. We eat there twice a week. I know the location is not the best but it's the food that matters not the location or how its decorated. I love to listen to the Greek music as we eat.
Really enjoy this restaurant and staff! The gyros are divine and the appetizer meatballs(not sure of Greek name) melt in your mouth. The lemon chicken soup is tasty too! Wasn't satisfied with an entree and let the staff know. It was replaced immediately.
DISGUSTING!!!! a totally cliche restaurant, very unauthentic, in a trashy part of summerville. Not only did i hear them trash talk a different greek restaurant ( i guess they can't take the competition and i think that is HIGHLY UNPROFFESIONAL) but when i got my "leg of lamb" or so it says, it was disgusting and dried out! I expected a nice juicy leg of lamb, not some baked dried out crap that they put on my plate. I figured if they were talking crap about their rival, and they were the ones with the bad, maybe i should go there so I did and I had a DELICIOUS lamb kebab, juicy, tender, marinated and beautifully presented!!
Great pizza and great service!
Best Gyro's I've had!! Can't bring myself to try anything else because they are too good.
Great eggplant with greek potatoes!! Also good calamari rings...yummy!!
I have NEVER eaten a bad meal here. Its always great. They really do have the best wings. Their menu is huge.. deserts to die for:)
I live and work in Mt. Pleasant. Like most Mt. Pleasantites, I prefer not to cross the bridge. I happened upon Opa while training in one of the north area sites. Lunch was awesome!!! The avgolemono was perfect. The tzatziki was to die for. I had a chicken souvlaki which was amazing. I will be making the drive to OPA because ZEUS in Mt. Pleasant simply cannot compete.
Great little place to eat. Kids were worn out from the trip from Spartanburg and being really ornery and the guy who greeted us at the door cheered them up nicely. You get plenty for your money too. I like the combination of cosmo chic and rustic charm. It's cool that they have the gyro spinning on the spit and the chickens cooking right there in the window. My wife had the salmon and I had the mahi. Both were really succulent and seasoned nicely. Kids had chicken fingers and fries. It's not economy priced stuff but you get a good amount for what you pay and it's much more affordable than most of the tourist spots that offer only deep-fried crap.
Just got back from Opa Cafe. It was the bes Gyro I ever ate. Better then another other Greek place in Summerville. The salad was fresh the best lemon chicken soup. The chicken was moist and the greek potatoes perfect. It is worth the trip.
Great comeback for old towne. We ate there for lunch Friday. Don't let the new look fool you the food's still the same. If you want fussy stuck up dining this isn't the place for you there's no air of superiority like a lot of places on E Bay and Meeting. Just sit down and enjoy the atmosphere and watch the staff do their thing.
We had an amazing meal at Old Towne this weekend and we're so glad to see them back open! The chickens are still in the window just like we remembered. Heck they even have the same guy cooking the food! Downtown badly needs more family restaurants like Old Towne. Our server Torey was a very sweet gal and the manager came by and chatted with us for a while and gave us some bbqing recipes for the Greek spices. Can't wait to come back we visit every time we come in from Columbia.
Thought this would be a good place to try after reading the reviews and hearing from others that the food is good. Well, I can report that it could be one of the worst restaurants I have ever been to. Service and wine are the only things to recommend. Fried Calamari, nasty fried bunches of breading lumped on a plate. Stuffed grape leaves, overly bitter with a mushy indescribable filling. Greek Chicken - old, old, old - one step from being rotten. Thin and nasty looking. Looked like the chicken had been starved for weeks. Moussaka over powering taste of cinnamon. If for some reason you decide to go stick with the gyros and salad and good luck
i havent eaten here but we did have a nice experience yesterday and i wanted to share it with someone we were waiting for the trolley car to come by with our son and it was hot as the dickens outside. our son has downs and he can be a handful at times. the man who works in old town must have seen us sitting there on the bench and he brought out a cup of ice water for my son. he offered us to stand inside the little waiting area to cool off until the trolley arrived it sure is nice to see some courtesy these days. i didnt think to ask his name he spoke with a southern twang. thanks so much for having some compassion!
