Good place, if a little unconventional, and excellent food. Honestly, my only beef with the place is that they charge a little more than I'd like for basics at a primarily lunch place ($3 for a taco, for example). Though to be fair, if you go to Santi's or Taco Boy or anywhere else you'll pay the same. I just got spoiled at the taquerias in Dallas. Overall, excellent food, excellent service, highly recommend.
Had a fantastic birthday dinner with great service from Jordan, a nice table overlooking the front window and enjoyed the best steak I have ever put in my mouth. Hall's is one of our favorite restaurants because, unlike some folks apparently, we enjoy a friendly greeting from one of the owners at the door, someone finding me a seat when it's 3 deep at the bar & servers who are knowledgeable & friendly along with the best steak we've ever had. There's a reason it's always busy & you can't get a reservation before 9:30pm. Don't believe the negative comments. We live here & love this place.
Wow, I am blown away by the negative comments posted about this fantastic restaurant. Whatever you do, dont pay attention. Those haters probably think that Applebee's has the best food in town. ;-) Halls Chophouse exceeded our expectations in every way imaginable. My wife and I went here for our twentieth wedding anniversary, and were impressed as soon as soon as we entered the door. Billy Hall greeted us when we first arrived, checked on us at the table, wished us a happy anniversary with two glasses of champagne in hand, and was at the front door when we left in order to send us off in style. The service by all of the staff was absolutely the best that I have experienced in South Carolina. To top it all off, my wife and I received a very nice personal card from our server three days after dining. At 39 years of age, this is the first time that I have ever received a card from a restaurant that I dined at. They truly treat you like royalty at this restaurant. All this talk about the restaurant, and nothing about the food. I take pride in my steaks, and act as if I were a steak connoisseur whenever I eat steaks at another restaurant. I can honestly say that this was the best steak that I have had in the Southeast!!!! Halls Chophouse is an absolute "must do" when you come to Charleston. We have lived here for 8 years, and can't believe that this is the first time that we have eaten at Halls. We will be back for years to come!.
Great place all around. Food and service is great and owner is very friendly with costumers. Definitely would recommend trying this wonderful place
My husband and I treated my parents at Hall's Saturday evening. This was one of the best meals I have ever eaten. My Dad placed his bone-in filet as one of the top three steaks he has had in his life. My husband's bison was so tender and delicious I had to stop myself from stealing it. My veal chop was tender, juicy, perfectly cooked, and tasted the way a pampered baby animal should. My Mom enjoyed the sides so much that she was kind enough to save half of her prime rib for the next day which we turned into cheesesteak breakfast sandwiches for brunch Sunday morning.
Our service team never left us in want of anything. If not for seeing the other diners, we all felt like we were the only people in the room.
There are many great restaurants in Charleston, but, Hall's is definitely the place to go for a memorable experience.
There was a HUGE miscommunication between our party and Shrimp Co. We had a party of about 55 people (give or take) show up unexpectedly. They stepped up to the plate and did an amazing job serving us from the bar as well as from the kitchen. Despite the stress and craziness, their staff was fun, friendly and more than willing to take on the daunting task of having an unexpected party our size. I'll definitely be coming here again and recommending then to everyone I know! P.S. Aside from their awesome service, their BBQ nachos and Crab Cakes are AMAZING!!!
The food is delicious and the people are so friendly and accommodating. Brought my 93 year old mother here for Mother's day and we both had a great time and an even better meal! We've been back a number of times, and plan to keep coming. The She Crab Soup IS the best in town.
Too many great things to write about this place! Everything I've tried so far has been top-notch. Happy that I work close by :-)
Wonderful food and service. The pork chops are awesome! Quality food at reasonable prices.
Been here many times... Love the food (taste, & great portions), love the staff (very attentive), and such attention to detail for a small place... Perfect!
This place rocks. Tucked away in a little shopping center on the 41 - 17 corner, it's not easy to find but worth it. Chef Toan (pronounced Twan) always has a smile on his face and couldn't be nicer. He'll sit with you if he's not too busy and talk food. The salads are awesome and the Pho is great on a cold day.
For those looking for the only authentic Mexican food East of the Cooper look no further than Carmen y Juan. Carmen does the cooking and Juan does the rest. This neat couple treat you like you are in their kitchen at home. Carmen usually has something special going in the kitchen if you ask. My personal fav are the chicken enchiladas with the salsa verde. Fresh, light, and delicious. If you think Mexican is heavy and covered in cheese do your self a favor and give these guys a try. You'll be back I promise.
As soon as you pull into the parking lot, the smell of delicious fills your nostrils. Head inside and grab a beer, and order up that three-meat plate. Pulled pork, brisket, and pork belly, with beans and mac n' cheese is how I do it. You won't wait too long before you are scarfing down juicy, smoked-out meat treats. I always have some leftovers for later. Don't forget to grab some nanner puddin' before you head out. The only downside of this place is that it's not attached to my house.
Lana is my favorite. I could eat there every night. Food is always good, nice choice of Mediterranean dishes on the menu, none too weird, great service. The place is not too big or too small. Try to get a booth.
I went here on Saturday night with a date and absolutely loved it. I ordered the vegetarian plate, and it was AMAZING. Mrs. Hall knew my date, and she introduced herself to me and was incredibly warm and friendly. The bartender, Hugh, was attentive and funny, and the rest of the staff were kind as well. Not sure what all these negative reviews are about--I will DEFINITELY be going back here.
We have lived on DI for a few years now, and we love Dragon Palace! The service is very quick for a dine-in restaurant and the food is great and much more authentic than your average take-out! If you like real Chinese food rather than the typical American-Chinese food, you will love it.
Finally heeded the good press here and elsewhere and went to Kanpai last night... How foolish I feel for ignoring this place for so long. Chef Park's humble (in location/appearance) restaurant belies the quality of sushi and other Japanese fare therein. We had steamed buns, both duck confit and beef, to start, and I could have eaten more of these for a meal. The duck confit was truly outstanding. Next we had some nigiri (salmon roe) and then a bigger roll, the Wagyu Roll. The nigiri was fresh and light as it should be, but holy cow, that Wagyu Roll. Tempura shrimp and avocado with seared Wagyu beef on top? Um, yes, please. It actually tastes better than it sounds. We also had the "popcorn" shrimp, which were tasty and spicy in their own right, but also came with a pleasant dressing/sauce with apples and avocado and fresh greens. I don't think there's any question this is the best sushi/Japanese food East of the Cooper, and probably in all of Charleston. Can't wait to go back.
tasty, light fare with lots of veggies, nice decor, good service, reasonable prices, easy seating, no tourists.
So very glad I got to eat the fried chicken and check out this creative and tasty new spot before work pulled me out of Charleston for a few months. It was one of the last things I did before leaving downtown and I can't wait to get back. Best of luck to Brooks and Tim!
