I've been there several times. Speaking focused on the food, beverage, decor and service while ignoring the prices, I had a great experience each time. Staff is knowledgeable and helpful. But my one reservation is the price point. The small plates have almost always been tasty, but $11-$14 for really small plates, or $12 for the same beer that other establishments of good quality charge $6-$8, that does annoy me. I know EO doesn't need my business, but I would go more often if prices were tuned down a bit for middle class folks.

Went here for the first time last week after hearing about it and was pleased with the experience. Apps and entree's were a hit. Will be back!

I like the biergarten's relaxed atmosphere. If the inside gets too crowded or loud my friends and I usually go outside to play a round or two of corn hole with liters of beer in hand. The food is pretty good and I like the selection of beer they have. I have to say out of all the bars in Charleston biergarten probably has the best outside section since they have plenty of space to hang out.

Bay Street Biergarten Review

If you're looking for a great selection of craft beers (mostly offered directly at the bar) or just want a large venue for socializing with a group of friends, this is a great spot. The table taps can be a little difficult to get to when crowded, but still a nice addition that bings a different style of service Charleston has been missing out on. With regards to food, there is pretty decent menu, but quite honestly most people go here for the beer selection, so its generally what you expect (the giant bowl of tattertots with cheese and gravy still always fun at any age). The staff has been friendly and accommodating as well.

The only issue I see is with parking around the area can be a llittle bit sketchy, since the lot always get full. However there is a giant lot that is open on the port terminal road that runs parallel to E. Bay.

Very good. No complaints. Will definitely be back for wings and bourbon. Bartender lacked a bit of knowledge about drinks/beers, but again, no complaints. The guy who appeared to be the manager was very knowledgeable and filled in the blanks. Really liked the atmosphere and the bar itself. The temp regulated drafts/taps is a nice option. Wings are a bit pricey, but worth it. Half price day makes them well worth it. Looking forward to trying more menu items.

Great Place… With one exception

I really enjoyed the Griffon. Food was good and the beer selection was great. However, one bartender almost ruined it. It’s a small guy with black hair kind of spiked. Lee or Lloyd (I think). Wore a flower on his shirt and was very rude! Anyway, the place is great, but avoid this guy if possible…

When we know we want a quick bite at a place we can always count on to deliver, we head to Poe’s. You know that when you order your favorite item it’s going to be delivered to you quickly and “Just right”.

We decided to go to Poe’s on a Sunday when most restaurants serve Brunch only, and brunch just wasn’t grabbing us. Poe’s is a typical beach bar on Middle Street in Sullivan’s Island. It sits among a few restaurants in a one block area. When other restaurants might be slow, Poe’s is most often packed. There is seating on a two level patio outside, and even on very hot days the crowd overflows to the patio.

I personally don’t know the history on Poe’s but it appears that it has been around since Moby Dick was a guppy. It was apparently founded to preserve the spirit of Edgar Allan Poe. It’s a nondescript place, old tables and chairs, some community tables and high tops, a large draft beer selection and t-shirts for sale and the burgers are named for Edgar Allan Poe stories like the "Tell-Tale Heart": fried egg, applewood bacon, and cheddar cheese. Like I said…… nondescript. T don’t let that put you off.

Their menu is limited, which is a good thing, for this is a place that does a few things great, not good, but great. My husband and I ordered our usual, chicken sandwich for me burger for the big guy. There are a variety of ways that these can be ordered and so we decided to go with the special of the day with a little twist. The special was topped (either chicken or hamburger) with Pepper jack cheese and fried pickles. I ordered mine topped with Cheddar cheese and fried pickles as I never had a fried pickle before.

Although somewhat routine as we always order the same or similar items I’ve found that when I’ve ordered other menu items I’m disappointed and missing my old friends. Our sandwiches came out quickly and were perfect. The fried pickles… were off the hook! The bartender (we were seated at the bar), was quick to ensure that everything was to our liking. The bartender himself is also a fixture at Poe’s. We’ve been going there for six years and he’s almost always there. ‘Don’t know his name, but he’s always there – another thing we can count on, good service.

We left with full stomachs, a very small dent in our wallet and a smile on our faces. When you go there look past the surroundings and directly to the menu. You won’t be disappointed.

Hardcore downtown "suits" happy hour crowd. Pool, darts, foul language, stiff drinks, mostly hospitality and hotel industry regulars. Except they're all friggin' Boston fans. What's up with that?!

Surprisingly fun place to host a private party and slurp down a few "Trash Cans." Place is low key, but in a weird location (across from old Vickery's that's now closed, boo hoo : ( Wish the pool table was full size, but still OK. Food is high quality fare, and close to CofC, but it's NOT a place to take a date. Definitely a local happy hour and Boston sports bar. Nice patio, except for the endless horse and buggies coming down Market Street. Reminds me of Abe's in Mt. Pleasant for some reason...

Visited on a Friday afternoon about 6pm (early dinner). We had the Pork Slap and fried chicken sandwich. Both were delicious. The chicken was fried really "lightly" and not greasy at all. I had the green beans as a side with mine and didnt want to share any of them!! Had a couple of the Abita beers that they were promoting where all $$ from the sales of those went to Gulf coast clean up. The Andygator was yummy! Very friendly and knowledgeable waiter...i think his name was Andrew (?) He made suggestions and let me sample of couple of beers to make up my mind what to order. Most of the sandwiches are about $9, so not too pricey. Yes, the craft beers may be pricier than the PBR or Miller Lite you can get elsewhere, but you know, here you get what you pay for....!!

The Mill is a great local bar with good food (especially considering their limited resources), a great beer selection, and fantastic local and regional music, that covers a huge variety of genres. The staff is fast and friendly, but also ALWAYS fair. They will know your drink of choice from the first time you walk through the door, and will have it ready for you, before you can even get to the bar (EVERY time).......but they also will not hesitate to kick you out, if you should happen to turn into that drunk A-hole that deserves it...regardless of who you are. Rest assured however, you can walk back through the door the very next day and the bartender will have your drink ready for you...even if it's the same bartender that kicked your drunk behind out, the night before.

My family and I love this place. Rockin' family friendly during the day, and party at night, at least weekend nights for now :-) Oh yeah, and the food seems to get better everytime we visit!

We have been open for 2 years and please notice that I only gave myself 4 stars....that's because we know that we have to come in everyday and work hard at getting better. There is one thing you will be assured of at The DIG and thats hospitality! We are proud of the food, the staff, and the bar/restaurant itself. Come and give us a shot, I know you will be pleasantly surprised!

As far as Island residents' comments; this is coming directly from Brian Mahoney, owner at the Daniel Island Grille, If I find out you are slamming me because you are affiliated with the other restaurant down the street please stop and let your credentials stand on there own merit. I hate that you have time to slam the competition but you obviously do. If you do not have affiliation than please come by the DIG and ask for me I would like an opportunity to change your views.

the fried chicken sandwich was delicious. the accompaning fries were from the nearest burger king and the "famous" fried pie was a only a slight improvement over the fruit pies available (two for a dollar) at the golden arches. it is comfortable and clean, watched over by a friendly and helpful staff. if one is careful, he or she will be rewarded with a delectable dining experience.
