Comment Archives: Locations: Restaurants: Sushi + Japanese: 2 Stars

Re: “Fire Street Food

Oh my gosh. I'm shocked this has 4 stars... the food and service are both MEH. I wouldn't say it's terrible but definitely MEH.

Thoroughly mediocre and expensive. We were excited to find a place that went beyond sushi to make a wider range of Japanese dishes. We used to love just such a place in Boston. Too bad that this one is clueless when it comes to making these dishes. If you've never had onigiri, negimaki, or steam buns before, you'll be eating an insipid imitation of the real thing. Even the ramen was hopeless - the broth was bland and watery, tasting like it had come from a packet. What a disappointment!

Re: “Sake House

Service was horrible!!! Waitress waste ice all over my 2 year old. Had to ask her for a fork 4 times before she finally brought one back. The cook decided to include my 2 year old in the food catch game ( WHY??? SHE IS 2) while popping her in the face with the uncooked zucchini . Food was average.. nothing to do cartwheels over. Vegetables weren't cooked well, as well as receiving them last ( which isn't normal for any hibachi restaurant I've ever eaten at) Ginger sauce was extremely watery. My salad wasn't anything but chopped iceberg lettuce with a glob of ginger dressing. Although the Miso Soup was better than any others I've tried. My Sushi wasn't good. It was not prepared well at all. went to pick it up and half of the cucumbers fell out. The taste wasn't amazing either.

Re: “O-Ku

Have been there three times now - first time was when the restaurant first opened and we had great sushi and good, and very strong, drinks from the bar. The bill was pretty outrageous, so the next time we went during happy hour. The sushi the second time was still pretty good and the drinks were decent. However, our third visit, also during happy hour, was nothing to brag about. Two of our three sushi rolls were falling apart on our plate (and we even sat at the sushi bar). Our drinks were just okay. We both wanted to have a second round of drinks but were ready to get out of the place. I don't know if the quality during happy hour has gone down or if the whole place has, but we won't be back.

Re: “O-Ku

McKee's attempt to pay homage to Nobu ends in watered down entrees with poor presentation and terrible ingredients. Tuna Tartar with quail egg was awful, the quail egg over-powering whatever flavor the frozen tuna could present. Yellowfin Carpaccio, although highly recommended by the server, was over dressed and served in an absurdly large plate. As for the nigiri, the restaurant is not even serving the correct sweet shrimp as amaebi and the uni was hacked to bits. Also, it's a joke to offer a f&b discount on Sunday of only 15% and then provide exponentially better deals during weeknight happy hour. The f&b discount should be the standard half off food only. On the other hand, great service and cocktail list. The sushi rice is the best in town.

Re: “Oriental Garden

Lots of people rave about this place but I have tried it several times and have walked away disappointed each time. First of all the place looks bad. For me a bad looking sushi place does not entice me. I prefer my sushi to be fresh and if the place looks like a dump then it makes you wonder. The service has always been terrible. One visit during a particularly busy night you could actually see the servers avoiding eye contact. We stood there with several other people (some of who eventually left) for at least 20 min before anyone even talked to us. The sushi was pretty good but the rundown appearance and terrible service make this place get a very low rating.
