Overrated. I will take Moe's any day over this.
Ate there for the first time after hearing they were in the "Top 10" places in the USA to eat a pancake. I don't think they make my "Top 100."
1. The pancakes seemed slightly overcooked, and not an overwhelming portion - no sides?
2. The butter provided is little, individually wrapped pats of butter. What a pain to unwrap butter pats when you are trying to eat pancakes.
3. The syrup arrived well after the pancakes. Even Waffle House brings syrup when you place your order, not as an afterthought or only on request.
On the upside, the wait staff was neat, attentive, and did bring the syrup when asked.
As others have stated, parking is, well, very hard to come by.
Surprisingly horrible food bad, all around. I brought my whole family here from out of town for an authentic Charleston meal. omg....it was not. They look like they do well, its a good story, good marketing, but it does all come down tot he food, and it was, well...gross. So glad to read others had a similar experience, and that it wasnt just me and my family, and all of my friends and their friends who agree.

Tons of crab shell in the she-crab soup...I expect a little shell now and then in the average bowl of she-crab, but this was like eating a bowl of bones covered in a creamy liquid. I'm lucky I didn't break my teeth. Also, the waitress was crazy slow. I had to get up out of my chair like four times to get the check and then again to get my credit card back. Will not return.
How this wins best of in Summerville with The Woodlands right down the street escapes me. Heck, Ill even take Moe's over Oscar's. Its mediocre food off a menu from 15 years ago. The staff is great, but it doesnt matter how friendly you are if you have no idea what a Steak Au Poivre is, dont put it on the menu. I actually laughed when it came out. It would have been better breaded and fried with the gravy they slather all over it.
The part that killed me is they charged you Fine dinning prices for fancy Huddle House food. Bad restaurant, bad food, bad prices, great staff. Luckily its in Summerville where the hicks dont know any better (my inlaws included)
I arrived at Midtown for dinner last week around 8:15, only to hear the doorman told me it was "one in, one out." We waited for around 10 minutes, got in, and it was jam-packed with college kids all drinking ad nauseum. I had the fried chicken wrap and waited 25-30 minutes to get served. The food gets to the table and... it's crap. Cold and slimy. If you're looking for a bar that you can order shitty food in while you get trashed, Midtown is the place for you. Otherwise, save your money.
Yet another failed attempt at the restaurant/bar hybrid. The food is piss poor, place smells like spilled liquor, bad lighting, and loud as a steam engine. AVOID!
The food was very bland. Do not bother to try this place.
After waiting 45 minutes for a table we were eager to sample the food. We tried the fried oysters which are the best thing on the menu....the shrimp hushpuppies were a bland disappointment. Skip the crabcake and fried green tomato stack..it was terrible. My son and I had the CRAB STUFFED FLOUNDER, roasted john's island beet pilaf, old bay creme fraiche...all 6 at the table agreed it was just nasty...my husband had the duck which was dreary, undercooked (blood red) and underseasoned...During our 1 week stay we ate our way through Charleston and had some fantastic meals, but Hucks was the single worst dinner I've had in years...so disappointing! If you are from Maryland (as we are)do yourshelf a favor and skip anything with crabmeat. I'd skip this restaurant!
Hmmm, putting no stars had no effect on the 5 stars this restaurant is getting. Hopefully putting one star will drop their rating to where it belongs!
You know it's a bad experience when you don't even get to the drink orders. We arrived to a virtually empty restaurant around 9:00pm and the nice hostess let us choose a table outside. There were 3 other parties of 3 outside and each table had a different server. One would think this is a good sign because you'll be sure to get great service! This was far from the case here. We never got water, never got a server to acknowledge our presence, nobody even came close to our table! We were hungry and excited about eating here after reading Stephanies blog, the prices seemed unbeatable & the menu looked more than promising. We waited close to 16-17 minutes before deciding it was time to go. As we walked through the dining room to exit we saw all 6 servers and busboys hanging out, talking and carrying on around the waiters station (which is located RIGHT AT THE DOOR TO OUTSIDE, so they can see outside and manage their tables..) As we left they just sort of looked at us, didn't say anything, didn't ask us if there was a problem. The hostess had her head down as we left, and a manager was nowhere to be found. Its unfortunate when you cannot get service for 2 people on a Saturday to a virtually empty restaurant. Its even more of a problem when there are 6 or so servers and some of them MAKE EYE CONTACT with me, but turn away quickly and run inside. Its a shame that this restaurant is being held back because of its horrifying service. We only waited so long because we were excited to eat the food and its a shame we didn't get a chance. Unfortunately i'll never spend a dime in the restaurant and i'll never encourage my friends to dine there. A restaurant with bad service (or no service in this case) just doesn't work in Charleston or Folly. Oh well, we'll see what happens with the next restaurant that will occupy the building.
It's a good thing James Beard isn't alive to experience this "award winner." All hype. No substance. They spend more time on the logistics of filing busloads of tourists in and out than they do on their actual food. The biscuits are dry. The grits are bland. The food is overpriced. Not worth the wait even if there weren't a wait. It's the Hyman's of breakfast.
