This is the best place I've found in years in Charleston! Fun, friendly and really outstanding food. Indoors, outdoors or at the bar. I can't wait to come back!!!!!
My husband and I stumbled upon the place by accident but was very glad we did. We had the special gyro of the day, with this amazing feta sauce/spread and lots of meat. Absolutely delicious! We also tried a small treat (cant' remember the name, but had pistachios in it), that I have to say was little overpriced. Other than that, it was great and we'll definitely be going back!
Let me begin by saying that my wife and I lived in the Middle East for two years. While living in Jerusalem, many locals invited us into their homes for wonderful Middle Eastern/Mediterranean cuisine. Not only did they share meals with us, they taught my wife how to prepare the local food. Over those two years we learned that Middle Eastern food is extremely tasty and very healthy as well.
In the 20+ years since living in the Middle East, whenever traveling, we always look for Middle Eastern/Mediterranean restaurants. We’ve found some pretty good ones in large cities like Atlanta, Metro DC. Now we have no need to look any further. Welcome to Ali Baba Mediterranean Deli & Catering on Daniel Island. For my family it is a dream come true to have the real thing in town. The prices are right, the atmosphere, friendliness and hospitality remind us so much of what we experienced during our time in Jerusalem.
I really hate to limit my recommendations because everything is absolutely delicious. But be sure not to miss the some of the best kibbi I’ve ever had along with an absolutely wonderful heart of palm salad. The grape leaves are outstanding and the chicken kebob melts in your mouth. This food is freshly prepared and Ali Baba’s has quite a variety. The vegetarian has many choices and for those who don’t feel adventurous there’s even a half pound burger on the menu. We’ve eaten in at Ali Baba or picked up there countless times and I still don’t think we’ve gotten to try everything on the menu. If you want authentic Middle Eastern/Mediterranean cuisine, you simply can’t go wrong with Ali Baba on Daniel Island! It’s a 5 star all the way!
Great food and atmosphere. Love the pear and gorgonzolla salad.
If it is the same as Downtown they are AWESOME !
The biggest & meatiest Gyro's I ever had & I travel ALOT.
Every visit to Charleston would include a stop there and boy was I upset on my last visit when I saw it was a different name/owner and not even a 1/10 as good as PAPA ZUZU's... I am estactic to find where ya'll are & will be visiting ya'll during the Food Festival next month :)
I went to Muse about 2 weeks ago with a party of 4.
I though the restaurant had a great feel to it. It is inside an older Charleston style home. We sat upstairs.
They have a huge wine list We ordered the cheese plate as an appetizer. Everyone was pleased with it. It had some local honey on the side, and was finished quickly. Meal comes with a bread loaf which was very tasty. I personally had a pasta dish which is not on their online menu (www.charlestonmuse.com) but it was penne pasta, with a light pesto sauce and steamed clams in shell on the side. It was very tasty. It was a perfect size serving. I believe that everyone else had a ribeye/filet mignon. I sampled my wife's ribeye, and the taste was there, perfect seasoning, and cooked to her perfection. Did not get a chance to try dessert that night. I would recommend giving Muse a try. I don't think it will disappoint you.
I went to Sermet's Corner last week for lunch with a coworker. We were promptly attended to by an attractive hostess. I asked for a table in the back so we could watch the chef work. A basket of bread and glasses of water were placed on the table a minute after we were sat. I went for the crab cake burger with the sweet potato fries. The crab cake wasn't very interesting on its own, the remoulade sauce made it better, but not great. The sweet potato fries were a disappointment. They were overcooked, starchy, overly greasy and crunched when you bit into them. The best sweet potato fries I've had are from Sesame Burger and Brew in North Charleston. Sermet's version weren't even close. Service was good with questions being answered clearly. I'll have to try Sermet's again as this may have just been an off day.
After reading wonderful reviews of Lana on various sites, my husband and I went there for dinner last night. Although the menu selections were wonderful and inventive, the meal was just "okay"--creative, but not worth the prices. Also, I am not sure if it was an off-night, but the service was very stuffy and unfriendly. I do not mind a reserved, dignified waitstaff, but last night, everyone seemed overly serious, bordering on pretentious. I would like to go back sometime to give it a second chance, but there are so many other Charleston restaurants we would like to try...
I usually discuss restaurants with friends, but has to post here because I saw a couple of negative reviews. I have never had anything less than a stellar meal at Lana's. In terms of lovely food, value for money and great service, it is one of my favourite Charleston restaurants. Sometimes it gets a bit loud later in the evening so we usually go with just one other couple. We love it!
I really liked the decor & atmosphere. It is classy and cozy, everyone was nice, great wine selection! I have lived in Charleston 8 years & I will come here again. Everyone try this and bring your friends!
I was really disappointed with the meal. For the price, you would expect more outstanding food. The desert was definitely not worth the calories or price.
I love this place. The tiramisu is outstanding. I have never left this place feeling less than satisfied! Good wine, good service, good food. I recommend this place to my friends and family often.
I love the fact that Lana has located in this up-and-coming neighborhood (where I live), but the past 2 times I have gone the food has been mediocre. Tomato-based mussels appetizer was undercooked, and the tomato sauce was flavorless... guys, go to Sette in Mount Pleasant and copy their Mussels w/ tomato broth. It is far better than at Lana. Pasta with lamb sauce also lacks flavor. Tastes like canned tomatoes and ground lamb. Duck dish was good. All four dishes we ordered were served at room temperature. Server was under-trained... teach your people the menu! Our server literally could not make a recommendation on anything on the menu.
