Decided to try the I'ON location with my best friend here visiting from from Texas. Of several places the two of us visited during his stay in town, O'Brion's actually did all of the basic things to make a customer feel like a necessary part of the business equation correctly. We managed to get a seat at a nice comfortable high top table, were greeted within seconds by a very lovely young lady (Eva) who was actually smiling and glad to be there, placed and received our beer order which arrived within a couple of minutes icy cold along with well chilled pint glasses, had our questions about the menu answered confidently, and proceeded to enjoy sports on the many quality flat panel screens without the annoying nuisance of loud blaring volume while waiting for our food. The food arrived quickly despite a sizeable crowd and my friend described the burger as the best he had enjoyed in Mount Pleasant. Likewise, the Cuban sandwich I received was total perfection on a plate. As a bit of a connoisseur of this particular sandwich, I must point out that this is the first time I have ever received a "true" Cuban made properly in this town and it tasted spectacular. My friend and I were quite happy that we were able to enjoy our experience at this O'Brion's location from the minute we walked through the door until we left feeling very satisfied that at least one place in Mount Pleasant actually has what it takes to earn the business and insure the return visit of its patrons.
I've been to Condon's on a number of occasions, and find the food adequate, but certainly not Irish. The best thing about the place is the draft beer selection. Although expensive, it allows one an opportunity to sample beers from all over the world. The music at night is entertaining and peppy, but Condon's is definitely set up for the occasional tourist visit. It appears to be doing well in that regard.
Apparently the food is only good on weekends. We went last Monday and I had to send my steak back because it was nothing but fat. My husband's shrimp and grits were gritty. There was trash and flies in the windowsill while the waitstaff stood around and talked. Not to mention the table was sticky. Very dissatisfied.
For those of us who have lived in Summerville for a while and have dealt with the loud, crowded, sometimes obnoxious watering holes that have passed and, unfortunately for some, stuck around (ie. chain restaurants/sports bars where Summerville's finest men gulp their Bud Light draft while sifting through the endless amounts of mini’s and only the classiest of ladies in said mini’s try to pick through the selection of beef in too tight shirts to score a free drink), this Park Circle-originated gem is a more than welcome change of venue for us “simple folk” who just like to drink a good pint and relax amongst friends (and actually be able to hear the conversation). The food is excellent, varying between your normal bar fare to Irish dishes to fully packed lunch specials. Sunday brunch is always a treat with a wonderful series of takes on Eggs Benedict while sipping on a mimosa or “Man-mosa”. The staff is nothing but cordial, offering an atmosphere of “home away from home away from work”. So, whether you’re there to eat with family and friends, have some laughs over your favorite stout, pale ale, or mixture of the two, or just sit at the bar watching the game with Jason (and occasionally Spence), Madra Rua BC is sure to satisfy your palate. And if not, well, Buffalo Wild Wings is about five minutes away, always ready to have you stand and hope that no one knocks into you and spills your beer in a weak attempt to touch your ass.
Just came back from a visit to the local pub Madra Rua. Had the prime rib sandwich and and some strongbow ciders. Pretty tasty (especially with the hand cut fries (mine with vinegar)). Wife had the corn beef and cabbage that she said was good but not a wow. Atmosphere is great, people are great. Typical pub food. Will definitely go back. (I've got many more beverages to try!)
Great food, great company and great Irish Cream!
I've been to O'Brions on 41 and never had a bad meal or a warm beer. Last time the burger was a bit rare. They apologized and the bartender took it back to the kitchen. While waiting and drinking my comped beer, a kitchen staff member came out to apologize and tell me they were going to redo the meal to make sure nothing was cold, etc. Showed up perfect (try the Carolina burger) and really enjoyed the meal and the company. This place can get really crowded but it is worth waiting for. I've been there about 6 times now... sometimes alone and sometimes with family. Good to have a family restaurant/sports bar/general gathering place to meet new folks.
My wife and I went to Dublin Down this past Saturday and were pleasantly surprised by the food and the service as well as the authetic pub atmosphere. Its been a long time since we were greeted as early and often as we were from various members of the staff that night...on the way out, we were stopped by one of the owners who said "thank you so much for stopping here tonight...we really appreciate your business"...there was no doubt that he meant what he said. Hopefully, this one will be around for awhile.
A fine Irish pub, good wings, great food and and "real" darts. Support Summerville Businesses.
A classic pub with all the trimmings, fine music, great beer (at great prices), and a friendly atmosphere where your first time in you are treated as a regular.
We've enjoyed all our experiences at O'Brion's on 41 since their opening. Whether it be a family meal or a night out with the boys drinking, we have found the staff to be attentive even when the place is packed. The neighborhood is happy to have a place like this to gather and we're also pleased that they seem to be doing well financially. Every place can have on off night or a bad day....you can't stay as crowded as this place typically is if poor service/food was the norm rather than an isolated experience.
I've been to all three O'Brion's and have had nothing but good experiences. Staff is friendly and remembers your name and your drink of choice. The food has always been great - the Gamecock chicken sandwich is my favorite, but haven't had anything bad there. The staff also goes out of their way (physically and financially) to assist with fundraising efforts (both in the community and at their locations) for local charities or just people in need. All in all, you can't ask for a better neighborhood pub.
Great location, food's always great, bartenders are fun, very attentive and outgoing. Looking forward to football saturdays again at O'Brions!
Excellent food and service at both Mt Pleasant locations. I was recently at the James Island location for lunch, the food was quick and very good, my server was very friendly. The atmopshere is fun, locations are convenient, makes for a perfect place to watch any sporting event.
I've been to all three O'Brion's, and have enjoyed my experience each time. They have a great beer selection, attentive staff, and great food. Awesome place to watch the game!
Would be nice if they paid better attention to their food. The jumbo wings had to be a joke as they were the smallest and driest we had ever had. Beer is on the pricey side and the staff seems to have no passion for the job or the guests.
Great place to hang out with friends and make new ones...super guys and gals that work there. Can't wait to go back! See ya soon!
I was surprised at some of the reviews (mixed) so I decided to check the place out myself. After speaking to my server a well spoken Irish guy called Keith who informed me the chef was new & the food was sorted out I ordered the fish & chips which was cooked to perfection. I went back next day for "Happy Hour" from 3-7 & had the Shepards Pie, again cooked perfectly & the portion more than I could finish. I spoke to the Chef afterwards a very cool guy who gave me a tour of the kitchen very clean & lots of fresh produce. The staff are mostly Irish & very friendly the beer cold, food excellent, warm atmosphere. I would have no problem recomending Molly Darcy`s as a food critics dream. Martin F
Decided on Molly Darcy's to celebrate my Bachelorette Party after having a nice experience personally the week before. There was about 15 ladies in total and I still felt the customer service was outstanding eventhough there was a large group of us. From the minute we walked in the door to the minute we left we were treated like royalty! Ended up getting something to eat while we were there and was pleasantly surprised with the variety on the menu. We opted on ordering a few of the appetizers for us all to share and came across Irish Nachos which sounded too good to refuse as they were. I will also say that the wings were arguably the best I've had in town! Turns out they have a new chef who really seems to be "stirring" things up there for the better. I would highly recommend Molly Darcy's for food, drinks or even just a good time!
Re: “O'Brion's Pub & Grille”
Just a sad little hole in the wall... fighting is allowed even if its man on woman. Strip-mall hick bar. Zero rules.
