Just ate here for the first time tonight and will definitely be back! Pho bowl and Bibimbap were awesome, finally some good steamed buns!!!!! This is a great addition to Mt. Pleasant.
We have lived on DI for a few years now, and we love Dragon Palace! The service is very quick for a dine-in restaurant and the food is great and much more authentic than your average take-out! If you like real Chinese food rather than the typical American-Chinese food, you will love it.
This is truly the tastiest Chinese food in recent memory. After 10 years living near NYC's China Town, that's gotta tell you something. I've had take out from Chopsticks House at least 5 times already, and it has never disappointed. Very rich, heavy on the sweet sauces, but worth the calories. BBQ spare ribs appetizer better than any local rib place. Don't let the horrific ambiance fool you - the food is meant for take out and the generous portions insure plenty of leftovers.
Thit Bo. Damn. I wanted to go into the alley out back to see if there was a Vietnamese lady squatting over a piece of charcoal with a grill basket in one hand and a fan keeping the coals hot in the other. These people are doing it right. The nuoc nam sauce was wonderfully fishy, citrusy, and spicy. You are supposed to just dip into it but I finished it off with a spoon.
BeerLao for $4. Yes, in Laos it is $.60, but you are not in Laos.
I've been to XBB twice now, once for lunch, and once for dinner. Both experiences were fantastic. This is NOT an Asian Fusion restaurant. The dishes XBB create are authentic to Asian heritage; some of them are indeed spicy, and you will enjoy your experience more if you share the dishes among the table in the Asian tradition.
Lunch provides some great sandwich options, I had the pork sandwich (filling but not too heavy) and the cabbage pancake is fantastic (this dish is on both the lunch and dinner menus). The dinner menu is more extensive, so there is plenty to try. The flounder dish currently on the menu is absolutely to die for -- it has this lightness complemented by fennel and dill that keeps the broth from overpowering the fish. I wanted to steal it all for myself!
Also incredible is the drinks selection. Joey (formerly of Belmont Lounge) has created some amazing cocktails, and they have some really cool international beers I had never heard of, but were very good.
The vibe is very cool and this is a really easy place to meet people and strike up new conversations. Not only is the staff really friendly, but the other patrons were a lot of fun and interesting to chat with. Overall, this is a great addition to the Charleston scene, and definitely provides and experience you can't find anywhere else in town!
Red Ochids truly is the best Chinese food in charleston. The owners are great, food is excellent and the atmosphere is comfortable and casual. If you are craving some good chinese, this is the place to hit up. Tony knows his stuff when it comes to all things beverage related, you will be surprised with the wine, beer and drink selections...
I have nothing but good things to say about the Red Orchid. The food is really good, the service is professional and for the most part efficient, and the atmosphere is much better than you will find in most Chinese places.
Other reviewers have complained about unfriendly patrons, or Tony, (the owner), not tolerating misbehaving children. (Standing on bar stools? Really? You consider this acceptable behavior?) Not legitimate complaints. The truth is that there are a lot of regulars, but everybody is treated well. I've been going there for years, and while service can (on occasion) be slow, it's not directed at the newcomers.
Don't let the naysayers naysay you out of giving this place a shot. There's a reason the Red Orchid is packed with regulars.
Took some coworkers to lunch there last week. Everyone loved what they ordered. One person commented that the food reminded him of his favorite Chinese restaurant from back in Greenville. Tony was our waiter, he introduced himself as the assistant to the assistant manager. He told us some stories about traveling around Taiwan and other parts of Asia to find inspiration for new dishes. He talked us into trying some of the in house ice cream. And I'm glad he did! I had a banana caramel ice cream that tasted of the most decadent bananas foster ever. Every single little nibble was ultra rich and ultra sweet and delicious. I sampled someone's black sesame seed ice cream and it was like a benne wafer crushed into premium ice creaminess.
Red Orchids is definitely my favorite restaurant in Charleston. I eat here often and love everything on the menu. If you have never tried it, you need to go. Don't get the usual sweet and sour stuff. ask for recommendations and suggestions. The staff is very knowledgeable about the menu and the service has always been friendly and professional. Their portions are huge and the quality of the food is amazing.

I friggin love Red Orchids - definitely one of my top three favorite resturants in Charleston. If you have a less than stellar first experience (for whatever reason), try revisiting them for lunch where you can get a number of dishes for less than $7. Most dishes come with a spring roll with dinner-sized portions. Personally, I've only had great experiences with the food and service, and I eat there on at least a bi-weekly basis.
Best Chinese restaurant in town. Authentic food, impeccable service and unique atmosphere, what else could one ask for? Owners are the friendliest people I have ever met. I highly recommend this restaurant.
This is my favorite place in the Charleston area for Chinese take out food. The owners are nice people and the food is always good. My favorite dishes here: Hunan and the general Tso, they also have awesome noodles and fried rice. If you get egg rolls, ask for the house hot mustard. Also, I find the pricing to be a great deal.
Anyone who gives Red O less than 5 stars either had the one in a thousand bad experiences or doesn't ahve the slightest clue about real Chinese food. I've eaten Chinese food around the country (yes, that includes New York and San Francisco)and Red O competes with all and is better than all but a few. If you're rating any restaurant based on a one time experience, one dish or the take out food, you really shouldn't consider your opinion valid. All take out food suffers on the ride home and even a 5 star restaurant has bad nights or dishes you wouldn't really like no matter how well they are prepared. Basically, you are smearing an incredible restaurant because you haven't really experienced the place!
As a 'foodie', a weekly regular of this restaurant since its opening and self-confessed glutton, i can attest that Red O offers unique, quality food at great prices and with outstanding service. i have worked in and taught in the restaurant business for years, Red O is not to be missed or underestimated. You really should eat here, and that's a honest recommendation coming from someone who eats out for a living. *And don't order from your personal comfort zone, try some of the specials or recommendations for a true experience.
The best shrimp toast. I had the spicy lamb it was outstanding as well. When I go back the peking duck is next.

I've visited Osaka a half dozen times over the last few months. Not once have we been disappointed. The servers are very friendly and prompt, and one always feels welcome in the restaurant.
The sushi is fantastic! They have many typical sushi rolls as well as a number of creative specialty rolls. We have yet to have a roll that was not delicious, especially the magic roll which is our current favorite. I also really enjoy the volcano, spicy tuna and downtown rolls. Great sushi that is very reasonable priced
Ten stars. The food is way above the typical Chinese restaurant. The service is usually great; especially if Will is your server. Don't order sweet tea expecting Southern style sweet tea. They use a special tea which has a "coffee-like" taste.
We went back to XBB in February and it was a much better experience. The items listed as mains were more substantial and the pricing was adjusted across the board. The Szechuan peppercorn drink was intriguing and delicious, and the okonomiyaki outstanding. I'm glad they have made some changes, and we will definitely go back regularly.
The only real problem we had was difficulty reading the menus due to the small font, dim lighting, and the lack of contrast between the charcoal print on light gray paper. A minor quibble is that nothing indicates whether or not a dish is spicy. I can handle heat, but I still like to know what I'm getting into.
