The food is passable and the service is casual to the point of indifference depending on the luck of the draw. The cave like layout is oppressive. Nothing 'fun' about this place.
Anyone who gives Red O less than 5 stars either had the one in a thousand bad experiences or doesn't ahve the slightest clue about real Chinese food. I've eaten Chinese food around the country (yes, that includes New York and San Francisco)and Red O competes with all and is better than all but a few. If you're rating any restaurant based on a one time experience, one dish or the take out food, you really shouldn't consider your opinion valid. All take out food suffers on the ride home and even a 5 star restaurant has bad nights or dishes you wouldn't really like no matter how well they are prepared. Basically, you are smearing an incredible restaurant because you haven't really experienced the place!
As a 'foodie', a weekly regular of this restaurant since its opening and self-confessed glutton, i can attest that Red O offers unique, quality food at great prices and with outstanding service. i have worked in and taught in the restaurant business for years, Red O is not to be missed or underestimated. You really should eat here, and that's a honest recommendation coming from someone who eats out for a living. *And don't order from your personal comfort zone, try some of the specials or recommendations for a true experience.
I'm from Atlanta, where there are plenty of good, authentic Asian restaurants. After reading the good reviews about this place, I expected much more. The food was decent, but could have been much better. I ordered the house soup, and the wontons were much too doughy and contained very little pork. I also ordered the lettuce wraps with chicken, and they were too salty. The peanut sauce was good though. Overall, I am unimpressed, and will probably not return.
The best shrimp toast. I had the spicy lamb it was outstanding as well. When I go back the peking duck is next.
Being "green" doesn't cut it. I prefer "Good" food. Now "Green" and "Good" that would be a good combination. But this place doesn't only has one (perhaps) and at that I say save your $ and pass it by.
Absolutely wonderful! Great food!
Osaka is consistent and dependable for great food and friendly staff. Thank you guys!!!!!!
Always excellent ! Friendly staff and great food .What more cane you ask for.
I've visited Osaka a half dozen times over the last few months. Not once have we been disappointed. The servers are very friendly and prompt, and one always feels welcome in the restaurant.
The sushi is fantastic! They have many typical sushi rolls as well as a number of creative specialty rolls. We have yet to have a roll that was not delicious, especially the magic roll which is our current favorite. I also really enjoy the volcano, spicy tuna and downtown rolls. Great sushi that is very reasonable priced
Great atmosphere, knowledgeable and attentive staff, tasty food and nice drink specials. Definitely worth checking out for the service alone. It's always so unexpected in this "service industry" town when you witness something even approaching an adequate wait staff and Red Orchids takes teamwork and service seriously.
This should be moved to the thai section... not chinese
Ten stars. The food is way above the typical Chinese restaurant. The service is usually great; especially if Will is your server. Don't order sweet tea expecting Southern style sweet tea. They use a special tea which has a "coffee-like" taste.
You would never guess that Chinese food this good would be hidden in such an eye-sore shopping center. This place truly is a jewel in the rough. Their dishes are MUCH better than one comes to expect from Chinese places and it shows. The atmosphere is sophisticated enough for a perfect date night yet casual enough to cater to a busy lunch crowd. If you're looking for a place with a buffet of typical American-style Chinese food complete with greasy fried chicken wings & tattered Chinese New Year poster on the wall, you're in the wrong place. Red Orchids is definitely a notch above.
Red Orchids is ok....i think some of the rave reviews go a little overboard. I've had several take out dishes there...never eaten in though. Actually, just this week I had a take out curried chicken dish...it was just ok, nothing to order again. If you're in the neighborhood it's probably worth trying, but don't expect to be wow'ed by the food because it just doesn't have that pop. People there are very friendly and they do seem to have some pretty good eat in weekly specials. Eating in just isn't my cup of tea.
This is one of my favorite restaurants. The food is always great, good drink specials and great music! Unfortunately, the service is consistently slow. The bartenders and the manager are among the worst. The waitresses work really hard but never receive any help from anyone. The slow service has become too unbearable to go back. I recommend delivery or pick up. It's too bad because everything else is sooo great!!!
outstanding meal excellent service happy, friendly establishment forever more, forever more, said the raven
Re: “China East”
This is my favorite place in the Charleston area for Chinese take out food. The owners are nice people and the food is always good. My favorite dishes here: Hunan and the general Tso, they also have awesome noodles and fried rice. If you get egg rolls, ask for the house hot mustard. Also, I find the pricing to be a great deal.
