We recently tried Okra Grill after some of our local friends recommended it. Everything we had was awesome and it will be our new favorite. Even my picky 10 year old cleared her plate and tried eating off of ours so that in itself is a miracle! I am thankful that Tommy Condon's, one of our other favs had a B on the door over St. Patrick's Day weekend because it led us to this new favorite.
Claire: It is packed because most folks think the food is good. Did you have a bad experience? Did you go back? Try it again, and maybe your opinion will change. A full house usually relates to something good. And don't go when you are "high". Kinda lets folks know your personal problems.
I am so confused by these reviews... Local food? You mean pancakes and fried chicken? This place is GROSS and for some reason always packed and therefore incredibly slow. I could see it being awesome if I was completely high or it was 3am or something. But then I'd rather have Waffle House's fresh local waffle or hashbrowns.
Page's is hands down the best restaurant in Mount Pleasant. Food is excellent, staff friendly and accommodating and prices very reasonable. We eat there three or four times a week and have never been disappointed. I cannot understand the negative post above unless it was written by a disgruntled employee who just couldn't measure up.
IHOP may not have the shrimp with their grits, but definitely has better food and better service than this place...the Hyman's of comfort food describes it well. Best tourist trap is the only Best of Charleston award Hominy deserves. Zero stars!
After 15 years of eating at Hominy Grill on occasion, I had a craving for shrimp & grits recently and stopped by for lunch all by myself. I was shocked at the disgusting glob of goo that was presented to me...it just LOOKED terrible. Regardless of the appearance, I dived in and, yes, looks weren't deceiving - it was TERRIBLE. After reading year after year about the BEST shrimp & grits in Charleston, I finally tried it & it was awful. The service wasn't much better. What a shame. The two stars are for easy access to parking & the guy bussing tables that finally came over & took this atrocity from my table.
While our brunch today at Bluerose was good, if unremarkable, from a culinary perspective, the service was shockingly bad. I met a number of girlfriends who were visiting from out of town. We had two babies and a toddler in our party. While the babies made a typical mess (crumbs on the floor around their highchairs and napkins that had fallen to the floor), it was not extraordinary. Toward the close of our meal, a man came out and handed me a push sweeper and told me to "clean up our mess or pay extra." Dining with children, I always pick up after them (we were still seated with plates on the table at this point), and I typically leave a generous tip for the server to compensate him or her for having to deal with any mess left behind. Here, in a room full of other patrons, my friends and I were left, stunned, to clean the carpet. In perfect fairness, the waiter who served us for the majority of the meal was lovely and as this incident wasn't his fault, I didn't withhold a tip.
I live in the neighborhood, and try to eat out predominately at local restaurants. I'm also typically relatively forgiving of minor glitches or service errors, but I have never felt so unwelcome at a restaurant. I will not be returning, and I plan on sharing my experience with all of my friends, particularly those with children so that they don't suffer the same humiliating experience.
The breakfast items and sandwiches are very good and location is super convenient with work. My only downside is I wish the soups weren't soo salty and this has been about 3-4 times now!! Otherwise I really enjoy it there.
Obvious shill above, this place gets one star for despicable marketing tactics.
I've been there for breakfast just about monthly since they opened, and I love, love, love their bagel sandwiches and breakfast burritos. The portions are large, and they don't skimp on the more expensive parts of the recipe (lox, et cetera).
My only knock on them is that the ordering/service flow isn't logical and sometimes that means a while before your order is taken. But it is never really a "problem."
Overall: big fan.
The real deal in Charleston Metro ! First, this is the ONLY DELI THAT PREPARES ITS OWN ROAST BEEF, ROAST TURKEY AND CORNED BEEF ON PREMISES. Hot Corned Beef is THE BEST WITHIN 822 miles [NYC]. Secondly, the portions are so large, it is not unusual to see folks rewrapping 1/2 sandwich for later.
Nearby Southern Season Deli and its piggish ownership took over the parking lot but patrons of MOZZO have not been deterred. They keep streaming in for lunch through to 4pm closing. So. Season Deli charges the same or more for sandwiches less than half the size + certainly of much lower quality.
MOZZO bread & salads are fresh-made. MOZZO ROCKS !!
I never take the time to write a review but this is worth saying... Black Bean Co. was THE WORST food experience I have ever had! I have never been so Angry about a restaurant experience! The service was rude, they got my order wrong and the food itself was HORRIBLE. My wrap seemed like it was pre-made and refrigerated over night because it was so tasteless, dry, with no sauce (which there was supposed to be) and barely any guacamole, and my "side" (it was the size of a salad dressing container) of pasta salad was DISGUSTING because it was frozen and clumped together, dry, and completely tasteless. I feel sick to my stomach now, because of the bad food and the fact that I WAY WAY OVER-PAID for this "food". How can this restaurant be on King St. in Charleston?! Ugh, so gross!

Awesome brunch with great shrimp and grits
I will preface this review by saying we went on Father's Day, so I knew it would be 'blown up' with people. I arrived 30 minutes ahead of my group to put our name on the list b/c we had 7 people in our party & I figured they would need to combine 2 tables or something, so I was trying to think ahead. The hostess looked put out when i said there were 7 people and said things like, "well, we dont really have tables for 7, can you split tables?" and "if everyone isnt here when we call you, we have to skip you." I appreciated the honesty, but not the attitude it came with. Well, when they called us, 5 of the 7 folks were present (the other 2 were trying to find a parking spot). We explained this and when the hostess walked away, she said "Well, I cant hold a 7 top for people who arent here" to a waitress. 5 of the 7 of us WERE right there, and we were going to sit and order coffees/mimosas, etc. They sat us at a 5 top and told us the other 2 would have to sit 'over there' -- totally across the room. SO, she wasnt holding a 7 top, then, right?! We actually asked the waitress if there was any way to squeeze 2 extra chairs at our current table & she was nice enough to suggest we add the adjacent 2 top she had (couple there were paying bill). Once we got settled and ordered, the food came out pretty quickly and was decent enough for breakfast fare, although nothing 'spectacular'. The other posters are right, this place really seems to cater to tourists and shoots for quantity over quality experience. I hadnt been here in a while and probably would try other places before returning again.

Very Slow delivery and they never get my orders right. I think i need to find a new place to get delivery.. Plus they dont give much to eat.
Every time we have had Black Bean deliver to us they always forget several items from our order and we never get a receipt as well. Worst delivery. Always getting the order wrong. Called back to tell them and they just put me on hold and I've already been waiting over 10 minutes. Enjoy their food but getting it delivered is just a complete waste and a nightmare.
I love going through the drive-thru at BBC, but the service inside the restaurant has been awful on the 3 occasions I've eaten there. I don't mind laid-back service, but in one visit, my waitress forgot multiple drinks, didn't put my order in at the same time as my dining companions', and wasn't at all apologetic. In an attempt to rush my food out, the kitchen delivered my "sautéed" fish almost entirely raw. To be fair, they did comp my meal - but I don't think I'll risk eating in, again.
The yogurt & granola are the best!
