Some of my steak tasted like it was bad. Manager never offered anything else or even apologized- just said it could be some propane from the gas grill. Like that's OK. Practically accused me of trying to weasel a free meal- which I never suggested, just reported the bad taste. Spend your money somewhere with better food, where your business will be appreciated. Embarrassed to be a local today!
Place is GREAT!
I am very disappointed in the Down Town Charleston La Hacienda Restaurant. I enter the establishment on July 17th with prospective customers for a lunch . To my surprise the Bar area had just been fleshly painted with a Red Varnish. After have the paint stick to my brand new White Shirt, i informed the Manager Pablo who tried to explain to me i should not have touched the Bar because it was wet. "A little late after i have done so, don't you think?"
Either way, this indecent could have been prevented by tapping of the area with a NOTICE of WET PAINT like most restaurant that care about there costumer. This action was completely Negligent by the restaurant. After speaking with the Manager he assured me if the Paint could not be remove by the Cleaners, La Hacienda would pay for the Shirt. After 3 Calls, 2 visits Management and the Owner has decided to ignore my complaint.
This will now become a legal matter, for much more. For this I give them a rating of ZERO!!!
Authentic, fast and cheap. I can feed a family of 3 there for 17.00. GREAT FOOD! I knew I was on to something when I was the only gringo there. This is the real deal!
Best Mexican in the Charleston area.
There may be better in California or Texas, but this is South Carolina...and moe specifically Charleston. La Nortena is the best.
well, if they're "comparable to Zia" I definitely won't try them. Zia is horrible.
Bleh. Nothing more to say. Just bleh. Maybe a yawn. Bleh.
Santi's is more authentic mexican than your standard 'chain' mexican restaurants. Their salsa is the best, their tacos use better ingredients as I'm sure all of their other menu items do.
Their chips and salsa beat out everyone else in Mount Pleasant. We go there once a week and never gets old. Highly recommended!
El Dorado is delicious! But. . . they recently started selling 24 ounce beers as 32 ounce beers. If they want to sell smaller beers, that is fine, but don't price it and sell it as 32 ounce beer. . . .
Terrible service!! Food was okay but service was terrible (and I've been there several times). When I went looking for a manager one of the bouncers told me to "fuck off". I was fucking amazed!! Too bad because the food is not bad, but in Charleston where the restaurant business is soooo competative they won't be around for the long run. Skip this place and go to one of the MANY other places that have servers who actually give a shit about taking care of customers.
Too much Greenberg and not enough Juanita .. Food is way too heavy on beans & lettuce .. Actually quite pedestrian unless you've had so many beers you can't tell they served up cardboard with sauce over it ..
I'm giving it three stars only because I know it can be more consistent. I know they had a rough start and I was hearing some really bad things about the food, but the last three times I've been in it's been really spot on good.
I think they had some serious kinks to work out, but as far as somewhere new, affordable and good to go on James Island, I've been loving it at Cha Cha's.
I mean: Pork Belly taco with roasted bananas and crunchy peanut butter!!
I like non traditional approaches to food and they are making some really interesting and good combinations.
This place is not like the ones in Miami surrounding areas. It is more Mexican cuisine but uses the chain name. Oh well
OK...I know this is about the downtown location, but just wanted to give everyone heads up that if you plan to go to the one on Mt. P... be prepared to sweat! NO AC! Our first experience was truly aweful!
The rice is obviously instant...beans not good and the 'sweet brown sauce' ???? a total uck! Tasted uncooked and was again, obviously a powdered mix... the basic tamalie I ordered was ok but not fabulous... I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS EXPERIENCE TO ANYONE!!!!!
The new place in Mt Pleasant is terrible in all respects. Do not go there.
Love it! Cool atmosphere! Much better than Charlies ever could hot to be. Great tacos too.
The new place in Mt Pleasant is horrible. Crowded, blase, noisy with 6-7 Mexicans running around with "I'm pissed off to have to be here" expressions on their face. Luke warm margaritas. Bland food. I've had better Tacos at Taco Bell for 1/6th the price.
Plus, they are letting customers park on the sidewalk blocking school children walking from Mt Pleasant elementary.
I do not recommend. Stay away
One of the top Mexican places in town.
If you don't like to wait for good food and do not like authentic Mexican fair, then go to La Hacienda and get a cheese steak burrito. It will be out in less than 2 minutes along with the sugar loaded slushy machine margaritas.
If you do however like scratch made frothy margaritas and real queso "not the melted white American" but pure melted Oaxaca cheese...Then this is the place you for you.
And yes this is a college city, so if you go on a weekend between 7pm & 9pm it will be busy. But it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out.
I am not a big fan of any of REV's restaurants, but decided to give Taco Boy dt another try earlier this week. I think it's really the atmosphere that makes this place and that's the only reason people should go, if they don't want to be extremely disappointed. The food was absoutely terrible and took over an hour to reach our table (at 9pm on a Monday?!) I ordered a shrimp quesadilla and I didn't know something so simple could be so awful. Two of us ended up physically sick afterward so needless to say, I won't be going back.
One more quick comment...
I am dubious of all the hype by the City Paper. Very enthusiastic & glowing early on.
Next time I will not give much weight to the CP opinion on Mexican food.
