Re: “Fuel

This is one of our favorite go to's for good food and a great scene! So many items on the menu that we love and great drinks as well! Love that it is dog friendly and it has the best outdoor seating on the peninsula.

Re: “Jamaican Me Hungry

Food was delicious and I will be dining there again. While many people may not appreciate a business trying to start from the ground up, I do. They have the main ingredient right and that is the food, everything else will come with time.

Re: “Jamaican Me Hungry

Food was excellent. The price was high, but I was able to share a meal and still have leftovers because of how much food that comes with the meal. Try to oxtails, you won't regret it.

Re: “Runaway Bay Restaurant

Took a small party to enjoy some Jamacian cuisine and was pleasantly surprise with tasty servings, a comfortable setting and excellent service. The Jerk Chicken was a big favorite with just enough spices but not too hot. The Caribbean Shrimp took high honors as well. The Jamacian Sisters have a real winner here!

Re: “Runaway Bay Restaurant

Runaway Bay is a classic and a treat to the Charleston area. Authentic food with a flair. Living in New York most of my life I have tasted Great West Indian Cuisine. The Price Point is Great. The Food is Great. The Service is Greater. Experience the Ambiance of the Islands at Runaway Bay. I will continue to frequent this establishment.

Re: “Runaway Bay Restaurant

We went for lunch recently, beautiful setting. really friendly and the food was wonderful, lunch to include salad was from $8.50 to $12.00, nice deal. Also, don't forget to try the cornbread, just great!

Re: “Coconut Joe's Beach Grill & Bar

LOVE IT! Our first visit to Coconut Joe's was a Father's Day 2010 treat from our daughter & her husband and we all had a great time! The service was great, the food was so good and what a lovely view with sea breezes! My husband treated me to dinner at Coconut Joe's for my birthday in August and again we had wonderful service & food. We also got together with my two sisters and a friend there and everyone was once again happy with everything! Our good friends from England came to visit this September and we treated them to a dinner at Coconut Joe's, and they loved it, of course we did too again! We are happy to let people know how much we enjoy the food and overall atmosphere ~ keep up the good work Y'all! WE'LL BE BACK! ^_^

Great seafood, reasonably priced, killer music on the deck - we fall in love again every time we go to Cocomut Joe's!

Re: “Georgean's Caribbean Soul

I finally made it to Georgean's without the sweltering weather hindering my appetite. The hosts are great and make you feel like long lost patrons. I was, for the most part, very pleased with my jerk chicken, cauliflower mash, and mac & cheese. I was hoping that the jerk had more Caribbean heat and spice, but the chicken was very, very, tender. My portion of mac & cheese was a little on the slim side but since it was late afternoon they may have been running low. Maybe I should ask to bump up the heat/spice on my next visit. All in all, go and support this tiny gem with the hopes that they can move to bigger digs equipped with air conditioning and tables.

Re: “Coconut Joe's Beach Grill & Bar

Always had a great time here, sure its a bit touristy, but living here, its nice to go out and do something fun like this place. Great ocean views, great Jerk chicken and they serve up a good solid breakfast too.

Only complaint would be that service while fair, is almost always very slow. The restaurant def runs on island time, but heck, with a view like that who cares.

Re: “Runaway Bay Restaurant

Went for a staff lunch early January and unfortunately was the only one to come away thinking it was just "ok." I'm easily pleased but really disliked having to carve my own jerk chicken plate (grissle and something slimey were abundant). The flavor was enjoyable, however. The salad was colorful and the house dressing (ranch with curry) is definitely worth a try! I had a bite of the house desert, some sort of cake steeped in rum with ice cream and it was very, very tasty. The entree prices were as expected, around $10-12 but only about 5 different choices. Desserts were the same price as the entrees. Service was great and the view was enjoyable, even in the rain. Based on me being the only one who got the crap chicken, I'd recommend it, but I'd only go back if someone else were paying.

Re: “Fuel

new menu is DELICIOUS. Lots of vegetarian options, which is nice. Drink prices are also really good...bottomless mimosas for Sunday brunch only $10!! Service isn't always the best but I've never gone wrong with anything on the menu

Re: “Fuel

Had a GREAT experience here. Great food and drinks. Friendly bartender, and no waiting for food. Would have given it a 5 except that the bathroom was dirty

Re: “Jamaican Me Hungry

The food was very good, but as another visitor noted, the service was rather slow and inattentive. However, the main reason I haven't been back is that the lasers made it feel like dining in the cross-fire of a Star Wars battle.

Re: “Jamaican Me Hungry

The food was good, the decor weird, and the overall experience marred by the gigantic TV staring me in the face.

The prices seemed high at first, but the menu doesn't say that main courses include a soup or salad. Adjusting for that and it falls in line. I would prefer those extras be listed a la carte, though, if for no other reason that it would have given me something to read. The menu consists of three or four selections. That's it.

The flavors are spot on. My jerk chicken was overcooked but delicious, and the extra hot sauce they provided gave it enough moisture. My partner's goat stew was very flavorful. It had far too many bones for me, but he lived in the Caribbean and said that's how it's supposed to be so I left him to it.

They tried in an obvious way to make it elegant, but it falls short. It reminds me of that part of the Caribbean that's stuck in a 70's time warp. There was a TV a few inches over my partner's head playing Bob Marley concert videos. It was another odd design choice that was distracting and made it seem more like a bar than a restaurant.

Re: “Fuel

Pro: Very good food and setting, interesting variety of food, reasonable drink prices, on-site parking, dog friendly
Con: Expensive food, service is inconsistent

We had dinner for five on a Saturday night. The weather was perfect, so they had all the bay doors open and the place had a good crowd. The wait was minimal and we moved right in. Their draught selection was good, though they were out of Dale's Pale Ale ($4) and had replaced it with Abita Lager to which our waitress made the appropriate "WTF?" face. Drinks came out fairly quickly, but that's where the problem started.

Our waitress would flee as soon as she put down something on the table, no matter if you called her, raised your hand, anything! Several tables around had a similar problem. That made putting in our food order take 10-15 minutes longer than expected. It was quite frustrating and persisted through getting the check settled. Previous visits during lunch time didn't have this problem.

The other problem is the food prices are quite high. $14 for a chorizo burger? They seem to be 30-40% over market on their menu. The food was good and both well prepared and presented. The buffalo burger, chicken kebabs (actually satays), black bean soup, and chef's salad all hit the mark. Their dessert selection was chocolate cake; evidently the bakery hadn't come through on-time with a delivery.

They also have a bocce lane and a big conversation circle outside which were great. I liked seeing the dogs welcomed though I'm sure that won't last.
