I agree with the previous reviewer--for the price, the wine selection and quantity was disappointing. The people pouring wine kept saying "just a sip"--for $25 there were four tickets--one ticket per 'sip', which was four sips! Add that to the quality of the wine (Yellowtail Shiraz and similar), and clearly this was not a 'wine' event as advertised. Charge $10 and forget the wine (and standard, run-of-the-mill wine glass). This was the first year, so next year might be better. The food and music were good, so the event has some potential, but the wine aspect should be seriously improved or dropped altogether (with a concomitant lowering of price).
The female bartender was just plain nasty. She took an order from a guy standing right next to when i clearly was before him then when i tried to get her attention she yelled you have to wait a aminute. I asked for Grenadine which they had in a bottle and she grabs a tray of cherries from the holder and poured the juice right in my drink. Also Karaoke Chris was rude to me. When It was my turn to sing on the Mic. Im an African american female and there was one african american male in the building and I guess it was Chris friend and said on the mic "hey man I couldn't tell the difference between you two" and started laughing to his underlying racial joke. But with my beautiful self i stole the show and he shut up. But Its a shame that 2014 I had was witness to ignorance of this sort in my own hometown. And I will definitely let the world know!!!!!
Food was very tasty and the atmosphere was very family-style. However it would have been nice to have an option for more than one turkey wing. It was a nice family style meal, but there was a very limited amount of food available (unless you were buddies with the chef like the table next to us was). Also, they could have made more money on beer and wine if they offered more then just a drink when you were first seated. All and all, I don't think it was really worth the money; a nice dinner out but not worth the money.
This event was not as advertised. It was little more than a happy hour with a some babies in costumes. It was held only on the back patio and there wasn't anywhere for the sidewalk chalk to go. There was no facepainting that I could find. It was disappointing.
What a beautiful day! A perfect day to do something outside and in a rural creekside atmosphere. Let's go to the Blue Crab Fest!
After making the trek through the ever expanding gauntlet of traffic cone insanity that is Mount Pleasant, it was a nice drive up 17 to Awendaw for some tasty tasty blue crabs, live music and a the enjoyment of a gorgeous cool sunny October 1st day. What we found was a the potential for a great event that is in dire need of an event coordinator before we ever come back.
This was very disorganized event to say the least. It seems like all the simple no-brainer things were completely forgotten about when planning the event. The first issue we found a real mash-up of food areas with opposing lines that ran into each other, effectively blocking pedestrian routes through the venue and making simple point to point walking a veritable roadblock. Also thrown in the mix was the stage area which you basically had to walk through to get to the main field where carb was being prepared and eaten. Point to point walking was no easy feat.
After getting acclimated and getting in line for some of that tasty tasty blue crab we discovered that to get said tasty crab required tickets (the only thing at the venue that required tickets). Great. So where is the ticket buying booth? Oh, all the way back at the front of the venue through the mash up of lines and stages. Nice. We wade back to get our tickets. By the way, why do we need 10 tickets per bucket of crab when crab is the only thing to use tickets? Wouldn't one ticket suffice?
Finally we have gone back through all the aforementioned tedium and have our tasty tasty blue crab. Yes!
We make our way to the crab eating tent to devour those tasty creek bugs we came here for only to find there are no crab crackers provided, no paper towels to wipe the crab guts off your hands and *no beer* anywhere at the venue to wash down the blue crab with. Really?
Resigned to our fate we eat the two buckets of crab we purchased (delicious by the way) using hands and molars to crack the little suckers open. They were quite fresh and quite tasty as we had hoped. We cleaned up our table and went to wash our hands. Oh wait that's right there was no where at the venue to wash your hands!!! No sinks, no water. My friend who came with us went to the creek dock and washed off as best he could there. I had my 10 year old daughter and together we finally convinced one of the guys cooking crab to hose us off with the only hose at the venue. Great way to cap it off.
Please people and Mayor of Awendaw, get an event coordinator! Port-o-lets a mile away from the venue, no place to wash hands, no basic crab cracking tools, and no beer to wash down blue crab make this a really hard sell to ever come back. One of the most unplanned events I have ever been to in the Lowcountry, and I grew up here. Great potential and we'll be back if these seemingly no-brainers get taken care of. Right now I couldn't recommend this event to anyone, which it a true shame.

The prices were just terrible. $7 for a sandwich with no side. The food was fine, but not great. There was not enough variety. The weather was perfect, but we would have appreciated having a few more tables available.
This show was a lot more like an eye level fart. You couldn't see anything unless you were in the first row because there was no stage, all the action was on the ground floor. The microphone system was awful, cutting out sporadically and often. My home PC microphone could have done the job better. I see a lot of potential with this show because the costumes are fantastic and the music has the ability for making you want to groove, however the execution was just second rate. I would recommend, putting the performers on a stage and upgrading your microphone and PA system. Also, more rehearsal wouldn't hurt.
P.S. The band was the best part. Sounded great.
