On any given day of the year, someone on your Facebook or Twitter feed will announce "Hey, it's National Hug a Ginger Day" or "Everyone get ready for National Skip Work Day." We mostly ignore these status updates — and wonder just who decides these official holidays — until they start to focus on food. Charleston restaurants perked up too. Recently, for National Pizza Day, Monza served up a special clam pie with free Peroni beer, and Paisano's on James Island gave away free slices. We wouldn't mind if Santi's recognized National Taco Day (Oct. 4), and Glazed has plenty of time to start preparing for National Doughnut Day (June 1). We've already got them marked on our calendars.
