Get ready for a deja vu moment. That inconsistent weather we mentioned before the originally scheduled Sea and Sand Festival must have jinxed it, and the festival was postponed due to inclement weather. But the fest was rescheduled for this weekend — with hopes of sunny skies. The events remain the same with the things starting off on Friday at Folly River Park with the very first Miss Sea and Sand Festival Pageant, where contestants from 10 to 26 compete in different age categories for the crown. On Saturday, dust off your short-shorts for the Coffin Island 5K ($30). The rest of the day will be filled with live music, kid-friendly activities — like jump castles and carnivals games — and a silent auction. Nearly 100 local food, arts, and crafts vendors will be on site. And the weekend wraps up Sunday with Arts in the Park and a sand sculpting contest. Plus, the festival is historic — “Sea and Sand Festival is the island’s longest-running and biggest annual festival and fundraiser,” says festival spokesperson, Ben Bounds.
