Last year’s inaugural Charleston Classic showcased the brand-new Carolina First Arena to the whole country. The second edition brings some powerhouses to town looking to tune up for the upcoming season. Eight teams — including Miami, Tulane, NIT champion Penn State, UNC-Wilmington, USF, Davidson, and South Carolina — face off in one game per day, with the two undefeated teams playing for the title.
Last year’s championship game pitted Clemson against Temple, resulting in a 76-72 win for the Tigers, who wound up in the NCAA Tournament. Attendance averaged around 2,000 fans per game, with the majority showing up for the Cougars’ first victory in the new arena over SIU-Edwardsville.
Tickets available for purchase are either single session, two games, booster, six games, or an all-tournament package for $90. All of the games will be televised on CSS, and even though the Cougars won’t be making an appearance, there’s still plenty of good basketball to go around. —Patrick McGinn
