I have been writing for years about the crazy white people who are trying to take over this country. Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, Laura Schlessinger, Christine O'Donnell, Rush Limbaugh. These people are just bat-shit crazy and yet millions of angry and confused white people think they possess some special wisdom.
Here is a terrific story by Steven Thrasher that just ran in The Village Voice. He nails it! Some kind of brain rot has set in on the white American population and that is destroying their faculties and causing them to act like lemmings in the spring thaw. It all has to do with having a black guy in the White House, with aging baby boomers unable to come to grips with the changing American demographic and their own increasing irrelevance. They will not go quietly into the night, but at least they are going. Take a look at this:
About 12:01 on the afternoon of January 20, 2009, the white American mind began to unravel.
It had been a pretty good run up to that point. The brains of white folks had been humming along cogently for near on 400 years on this continent, with little sign that any serious trouble was brewing. White people, after all, had managed to invent a spiffy new form of self-government so that all white men (and, eventually, women) could have a say in how white people were taxed and governed. White minds had also nearly universally occupied just about every branch of that government and, for more than two centuries, had kept sole possession of the leadership of its executive branch (whose parsonage, after all, is called the White House).
But when that streak was broken—and, for the first time, a non-white president accepted the oath of office—white America rapidly began to lose its grip....
Who didn't chuckle, after all, the first time they heard that white people had doubts that Barack Obama had even been born in the United States and was therefore ineligible to be president? It sounded like one of those Internet stories in which some (usually white) writer does his best to prove something everyone knows to be true is actually the exact opposite. And you go along with it for a few paragraphs to see how long the writer can convince you that what you know is right is actually wrong....
But the more you shook your head at it, the more it seemed to have taken root deep in the lizard part of the white nervous system. Obama is not an American. He says he's Christian, but he has a Muslim-sounding name. He's not black, he's not white. . . . Is . . . is he even human?
Today, Newsweek has found, nearly a quarter of Americans believe that Obama is a Muslim, with barely 42 percent of the nation accepting his claim that he's a Christian. CNN finds that a quarter of Americans also believe that Obama was "probably or definitely" born in another country.
Harris found in an online poll that 14 percent of Americans believe in their hearts that President Barack Obama is the antichrist, with nearly a quarter of Republicans saying so....
What was going on? Had decades of sucking down so much high-fructose corn syrup not only made Americans incredibly obese, but also messed with white brain chemistry to the point that some sort of tipping point had occurred?
Not a bad theory, but no, there's a simpler explanation, with two parts: For the first time in their lives, baby boomers are hard up against it economically, and white boy is becoming outnumbered and it's got his bowels chilled with fear.

Most of the industrial democracies have some form of publicly funded news service. Ever heard of the British Broadcasting Company or the Canadian Broadcasting Company? In the U.S. it's National Public Radio, a division of the Public Broadcasting System. The GOPers have been trying to defund NPR since they took over Congress — in 1994! Now they are feeling their muscle and they are at it again, and Jim DeMint will be leading the fight in the Senate. I would recommend that you call his office and tell him to shove it, but I think we know what that would accomplish. So I will ask you to read this post and let the Democratic majority in the Senate know how important NPR is to journalism and culture in this country.
House Republicans announced Wednesday they plan to force a floor vote on defunding NPR in response to the firing of analyst Juan Williams last month.
House GOP Whip Eric Cantor (Va.) and Rep. Doug Lamborn (Colo.) said that cutting funds to the publicly subsidized news organization was the winner of the conference's weekly "YouCut" contest, in which the public votes online on spending items they want eliminated. ...
Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) has said he will introduce legislation to defund NPR in the upper chamber.
NPR operates using both private and public money, though most of its revenue comes from non-public sources.

A new study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention gives a bleak picture of our nation's healthcare system without health insurance for all. The cost, both personal and social, will only go up until all are insured.

Vital Signs: Health Insurance Coverage and Health Care Utilization —- United States, 2006—2009 and January—March 2010
November 9, 2010 / 59(Early Release);1-7
Background: The increasing number of persons in the United States with no health insurance has implications both for individual health and societal costs. Because of cost concerns, millions of uninsured persons forgo some needed health care, which can lead to poorer health and potentially to greater medical expenditures in the long term.
Methods: CDC analyzed data from the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) for 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009 and early release NHIS data from the first quarter of 2010 to determine the number of persons without health insurance or with gaps in coverage and to assess whether lack of insurance coverage was associated with increased levels of forgone health care. Data were analyzed further by demographic characteristics, family income level, and selected chronic conditions.
Results: In the first quarter of 2010, an estimated 59.1 million persons had no health insurance for at least part of the year before their interview, an increase from 58.7 million in 2009 and 56.4 million in 2008. Of the 58.7 million in 2009, 48.6 million (82.8%) were aged 18—64 years. Among persons aged 18—64 years with family incomes two to three times the federal poverty level (approximately $43,000—$65,000 for a family of four in 2009), 9.7 million (32.1%) were uninsured for at least part of the preceding year. Persons aged 18—64 years with no health insurance during the preceding year were seven times as likely (27.6% versus 4.0%) as those continuously insured to forgo needed health care because of cost. Among persons aged 18—64 years with diabetes mellitus, those who had no health insurance during the preceding year were six times as likely (47.5% versus 7.7%) to forgo needed medical care as those who were continuously insured.
Conclusions: An increasing number of persons in the United States, including those at middle income levels, have had periods with no health insurance coverage in recent years, which is associated with increased levels of forgone health care. Persons aged 18—64 years with chronic conditions and without consistent health insurance coverage are much more likely to forgo needed medical care than persons with the same conditions and continuous coverage.
In 1936, Literary Digest conducted a poll that predicted that Republican Alf Landon would win a landslide victory over President Franklin Roosevelt in the November election. Of course, as we all know, it was the other way around, with FDR carrying 46 of the then-48 states in the greatest landslide in presidential election history.
What went wrong. It seems that the Literary Digest poll was conducted by telephone and in those Depression-racked days, only affluent people could afford telephones. On Election Day, those without telephones had the last laugh when they turned out overwhelmingly for Democrats in the biggest electoral surprise in history.
Something like that could happen in less that 48 hours, according to a new poll in Newsweek magazine. For weeks the GOPers and the mainstream media have been yapping about how the Republicans are going to run the table on Election Day and take over the House and the Senate. Newsweek just released a poll that calls all that into question. You see, they actually polled those 20 percent of American households that have no landlines — the younger, more urban, more Democratic households that have been totally neglected by the other polls. And you can probably guess how this poll turned out. Technology changes and when pollsters fail to change with it, they can end up making fools of themselves.

The latest rage - or outrage - on the right is this Newsweek Poll. You know, the Newsweek poll - the one that said that Obama has a 54% approval rating and that 48% of registered voters prefer to vote for a Democrat, while only 42% lean Republican.
That Newsweek Poll.
Seems the Repuglinuts don't like that poll because it doesn't fit their teabag revolution narrative. They slant their brows in angry scowls, slam their hammy fists and declare the poll an outlier, unfit for human consumption!!!
"Look at Real Clear Politics," they insist. "Their totally and completely non-partisan analysis of polling numbers shows that the Newsweek poll is a fake, a lie, a CONSPIRACY - all designed by the VLWC to raise the specter of Republican failure only days before the greatest and most important election of forever."
Oh, what a world!
So what about that Newsweek poll? Was it an outlier? Was it in any way valid? Are we desperate for a sprig of hope? Are we totally delusional?
After all, that Newsweek poll totally disagrees with all those other, much, MUCH more legitimate polls that show Obama with a -0.0% likey-likey rating and a generic ballot that suggests a pickup for the Republicans somewhere between 1.2 million and infinity seats in the House.
The Reality is that these pollsters sometimes have a difficult time adjusting to a thing we all refer to as "Progress". Say it with me Pro-gress.
The progress to which I refer is that of cell phone use, and not just your usual, everyday, annoyance-on-the-bus cell phone use. I'm talking about the hardcore take-your-landline-and-shove-it cell phone use.
That's right. Cell-Phone-only households now account for over 20% of all households in America. That supersedes the amount of landline-only households.
The Newsweek poll includes these cell-phone-only households. ALL of the others do not!
That is VERY significant. The other polling outfits ignore 20% of all Americans in their polling - that's 1 in every 5 people. They effectively don't exist - or at least don't matter to the Gallups, USA Todays, and stinkers like Rasmussen.
Not surprisingly, these cell-phone-only people tend to be overwhelmingly young, urban, and Democrats.
And what about the landline-only households? Surprise!! They tend to be older, rural, and Republicans - so they were sure to be included in the polls!
As you might have guessed, when you poll an electorate that includes the (less than) 20% of high-concentration Republicans, and EXCLUDES the 20% of high-concentration Democrats, then the poll will tend to favor the Republicans - alot. Include those Democrats, and all of a sudden the polls start painting a picture of a whole new world. THAT makes sense.
But wait, there's more...

Bill Maher has the last word and sets forth a New Rule on Huffington Post. This guy makes me want to own a television!
See his post here.
New Rule: If a woman rejects your first dozen advances, don't up the ante by sending her a picture of your penis. This week, we found out that Vikings quarterback Brett Favre allegedly tried to get with a young woman by sending her MySpace messages, voicemails, and notes through a friend, and when none of that worked, and it was third and long — though, not as long as most of us would have imagined — he decided to throw the Hail Mary and sext her pictures of Little Brett to close the deal. Brett, I get it: Your dictionary doesn't include the word "quit" or "retire" or "married" but you've got to at least understand "punt." You know the worst part about having sex with Brett Favre? He keeps saying he's finished, and then he comes back to drag it out for another year....
If Brett Favre's penis could talk, what would it say? Well, other than, "No photos please," I think it would say, "I'm not a witch. I'm you." Because for hundreds of years white penises were America. White penises founded America, they made the rules and they called the shots in the workplace, in the home, and at the ballot box. But now the unthinkable is happening. White penises are becoming the minority: 2010 was the first year in which more minority babies were born in the U.S. than white babies. This is what conservatives are really upset about — that the president is black, and the best golfer is black, and the Secretary of State is a woman, and suddenly this country is way off track and needs some serious 'restoring.' If penises could cry — and I believe they can — then white penises are crying all over America....
