Glenn Beck and the GOP Stir the Cauldron of Intolerance

Posted by Will Moredock on Sat, Sep 4, 2010 at 2:54 PM

Here is a blog by Cynthia Tucker of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that closely parallels by upcoming Sept. 8 City Paper column. Think of this as sort of a preview.

WASHINGTON — Glenn Beck is a talented huckster, a shrewd survivor who may be in the middle of another self-reinvention. This time, he seems bent on remaking himself as one of the oldest of the stock all-American characters: the Elmer Gantry-like preacher-performer.

Last weekend, Beck held a rally on the National Mall, “Restoring Honor,” calling the nation back to what he sees as its traditional Christian roots. Beck gets a lot of things wrong, including history. Moreover, he’s an odd spokesman for conservative Christianity, since he’s Mormon....

Beck, by the way, has also been subjected to harsh appraisals by Christian fundamentalists. His rally had barely ended before Russell Moore, a dean at Louisville’s Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, denounced it, along with the conservative Christians who attended. “Mormonism and Mammonism are contrary to the gospel of Jesus Christ,” Moore wrote.

Beck likely doesn’t care; his bank account (and his ego) will only grow larger as a result of the attention. But he has stirred the winds of religious bigotry, and the GOP may reap the whirlwind.

This article, which bashes Mormons, is supposed to be an example of religious TOLERANCE? Let's call it what it is. Some are upset that conservatives are gathering and finding common ground. There is a liberal element in this country that profits (politically) by continued religious and racial division. Anyone trying to change that is thoroughly bashed, as Mr. Beck has been. It truly is shameful that such a peaceful gathering has been defined so hatefully by those who do not agree with its message of unity.

But what about the 240 preachers, priests, rabbis and imams who joined him onstage at the rally?

Their opinions about Beck's message are every bit as relevant as the views of his detractors.

Faith, Hope and Charity hardly sounds like religious bigotry.

I think what has the left scared shit-less is the fact that the rally was personally attended by one and a half of every one thousand American citizens. For every citizen who personally attended the rally, there were hundreds more who wanted to be there, but couldn't make it.

Even more impressive than the turnout was the civility of the crowd. No arrests were made. The area around the mall was left free of trash and debris. The orderly, "predominately white" crowd sang and prayed with both black preachers and white rabbis.

By slandering Beck, you also ascribe the same label to those who agree with him.

Not really a big surprise.

This is what average Americans have come to expect from the progressive left:

Effete, elitist snobs who mock morality, religion and patriotism with the condescending air of feigned intellectual superiority. Craven people who cast government in the image of God, with "faith" in a new green religion, "hope" in the unholy union of charismatic politicians and special interests, and "charity" through taxation and redistribution of property and wealth.

The scary subliminal message from Beck's rally of average Americans is this:

We are awake. We've had enough of your BS. Your days are numbered.

We'll see you in November.....

Ms. Moredock, Please take a bath and stop using drugs. You stink and you're stupid.

Here is what passes for a column from Will Moredock:

"Here is a blog by Cynthia Tucker of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that closely parallels by (sic - my) upcoming Sept. 8 City Paper column. Think of this as sort of a preview."

In which he will basically regurgitate the same nonsense with "privileged old white man guilt" and some Geechee dialect thrown in for local flavor.

If CP columnist's salaries are based on original content submitted, then Will's checks must be smaller than his "Willy".

"We'll see you in November".
Four more years of Republicans will only lead to 4 more years of Democrats.
Neither party has a coherent plan to pay off our massive debt.

Good to see Will Moredock is still as much of a bigot as ever. Of course his stock-in-trade is to accuse everyone under the sun of precisely what he actually IS, so that hopefully no one will notice he's projecting himself with flagrant bashing of anyone who isn't stupid enough to follow the asinine mindset of fascist he supports.

It's somewhat amusing at this point that the Democrats are so out of touch with reality that they don't even try to argue the matter anymore when pitching their insanity, they just call everyone racists, and "phobic" of whatever it is they are in favor of, and so on and so forth...

Who's intolerant? Democrats seem to be the one constantly using the slurs, mischaracterizations, and baiting everyone of every race, creed, and color solely for the purposes of advancing their inherently bigoted and racist actions, constantly perpetuating poverty, and ensuring racial tensions by insisting that everything has a racist overtone when there is nothing of the sort.

Who's phobic? Democrats always show their hand as being phobic about the public unless they are under their thumb. The second the public is going to appear to have some capability to live, act, and think outside the confines that the Democrats have deemed acceptable, then they are to be attacked, persecuted, and "dealt with" until whatever measure of freedom from government oversight they had evaporates.

Who's the group constantly spitting on Martin Luther King Jr.'s words and wishes for civil rights?

All people should be judged by the content of their character, rather than the color of their skin... However who is the first to always play the race card? The democrats of course, even in the 2008 election, not one time did the opposing candidates (democrat, republican, and independent alike) make mention of Barak Obama's race as having anything what so ever to do with his capability to be president... Yet Barak Obama and his campaign constantly rang the note as loud as they could that there was racism against him by the opponents he was running against, including fellow democrats.

If there was indeed so much racism against Barak Obama, then why did the vast majority of his votes received to become president come from White voters? Were they so racist that they've actually gone completely around the "dial" and rolled back around so that they would then support the candidate they are supposedly so racist against?

If ever you are in doubt, put the words, plans, and policies of either side to the test through Socratic questioning... Liberalism does not work, it's nothing more than a repackaging of socialism put forward with the help of fascism. It's not a matter of "well the right people haven't tried it", it's that even if the right people put it in place, the mechanism itself is inherently flawed and corrupt.

FCB,

True. The party that comes up with that plan and implements it will materialize soon, out of necessity.

I don't care about the labels or who gets the credit. Just get it done. The real question is whether that party will remain in ascendancy while they are calling for all of us to make great sacrifices.

That will be a test of our character, not theirs.

Does our generation have the mettle to be the next "greatest generation"?

do y'all really take Beck seriously? the guy is borderline psychotic...

and what about your hero Rush? he must be getting pretty jealous of your new leader (at least Rush is clever & uses some 'street-smarts' to manipulate his followers, Beck is a just a glorified carnival barker).

look, I'm not passing judgment on your politics (although I probably disagree with 60%-70% of the current agenda of the 'right wing'), but are Beck & Palin this generations Buckley & Reagan???

if so, you're in for a shock worse than what the Democrats will be getting in November.

Will, try and not parallel it too much, try to include some facts instead of just conjecture...

I know that would be asking for a lot and probably would take too much of your time to do some research. So I guess we'll just get some cut and paste job from the HuffPo...

Talk about projection. The Beck-Foxnews-Breitbart's stock in trade is pushing stories that are obviously, obviously designed to scare white people. I listed all the fake controversies that the right-wing noise machine has generated to scare white people on another story, so I won't repeat them all here. I can though if you won't believe me.

As an aside, when people accuse the left of tarnishing MLK's legacy, like GuyIncognito has done, I laugh. King was someone who said "You can't talk about solving the problems of the negro without talking about billions of dollars. You can't talk about ending the slums without first saying profit must be taken out of slums. Now this means that we are treading in difficult water, because it really means that we are saying that there is something wrong with capitalism. There must be a better distribution of wealth... and maybe America must move toward a democratic socialism."

Rashid Kahlidi was one of obama's best friends.obama's mentor was Saul Alinsky. not to mention terrorists like Bill Ayers. now,if you don't know who those people are,do your own homework and look them up.if that still isn't enough (and if you are a liberal,it won't be) take a look at how he treats israel compared to the palestinian terrorist group hamas,,http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2…
enough home work has been done for you now,do some of your own.

1. Rashid Khalidi has never been described by anyone as an "islamo-fascist". He's a professor of intl relations who sympathizes with the Palestinian plight.

2. Saul Alinsky was a Russian Jew. Not a fascist. Not even a Muslim.

3. Bill Ayers was a leftist revolutionary. Not a Muslim or a fascist.

4. Yes, let's talk about Israel! Name one policy change (not a change in rhetoric) that Obama has made with regard to Israel. We still don't demand that Israel stop building settlements in the West Bank (illegal under international), we still support the Israeli blockade of Gaza, we're still "committed to Israel's security", we're still providing cover for Israel's actions at the UN, the US was much more tepid in its criticism of the flotilla assault than anyone else, etc.

5. Based on points 1-4 I conclude that you are an idiot.
