I believe Representative Wilson's comment was appropriate. Mr. Obama was out of line in not recognizing the citizenry's disapproval of components in the health care bill. The GOP's bill and recommendations to repair various aspects of our current health insurance should be respected, as well as those of the middle class. After all, the middle class will be 'footing the bill' for any modifications. Obama is pushing too hard and is arrogant in thinking he and/or his supporters have the 'right' answer. I commend Rep. Wilson for having called out his and his constituents view. That is America and to call us 'brown shirts' should also be rejected as an attempt to discredit the heart of America. Darn blind, liberals!!

this is precisely why sc is considered by others in the union as backwards, out of touch with reality, and a bunch of poor, racist, whites that are still bitter about losing the civil war. sc was the first to rebel against the us government and leave the union. unfortunately, there are still racists in every area of government and there are people that feel the same way as most of the bigots. they make all white people look bad and our republican party does not need that image or want that negative, racist overtone. it's almost like they are afraid of blacks "learning to read" just like in the days of slavery. grow up! it really is a shame that these people still exist. the south carolina citizens need to be ashamed and need not worry about why their state is always and consistently last in education. incredible display of ignorance.

I commend Rep. Wilson for have the guts to "call out" the President, just as the President said he is going to "call out" people he thinks are not telling the truth. It works both ways. Just because he is the President, doesn't mean he gets to lie and get away with it.

First of all, we still have (for the time being) "freedom of speech". And don't forget, the President works for us, we don't work for him. I have never figured out why anyone should be intimidated by the President and he sure seems to intimidate. He says "we WILL get this done". Who is "we" and what makes him so sure of getting what he wants? This country is suppose to be "for the people and by the people".
I agree that the office of Presidency warrants respect, but not necessarily the man in office. When he deserves respect, then he should get it.....it doesn't come automatically just because he holds the office!! Seems to me he is determined that things are going to be HIS way. This country has been going down hill since he took office and I hope it will survive what is in store for us after this man gets HIS way (and with all the ignorant/blind people in Washington, he will). But, I think the citizens of this country better enjoy the last days of a "free" country because American will never be the same again after this President gets through (and I don't mean that in a positive way).
What about what the people want? Does he TRULY care? I think not. Why doesn't he just conduct a special survey of what every voter (except those on welfare or medicaid) wants. He might find out that the majority don't want what he wants. What about the Congress/Senate? Are they going to be forced to be under a medical plan someone dictates to them? I highly doubt it.
I would like to know exactly what was meant by the remarks of some other Congressman that Wilson will pay for his remarks. Sounds like threats to me. I pray not.
Slowly, but surely, we are headed down a road that is visible to those who don't have blinders on....socialism and dictatorship. There is a writing that says "What is the high place whereunto ye go? And the name thereof is called Bamah unto this day." Everyone is looking to Obama to take care of and solve our problems. Got news.....you're looking to the wrong man!! Another writing says "Do not associate with those who always insist upon change, because disaster will come to them suddenly. Who knows what misery both may bring?" Hmmmm, think about that.
I don't know why people always want to throw racism into everything!!! I don't know who you are, but I think probably you are racist yourself to always see that anytime anyone makes remark against someone of a different color it is racism. Grow up!!!!!! Don't forget......Obama is half WHITE. Yep, I'm white, but I'm not racist and I don't have a small mind. Anyway, Clinton did some bad things, but what is taking place now is worse...the government taking over everything! Where are your rights going? Who is going to own your home; your car; tell you when to go to the doctor and determine your medical needs; tell you who you can fire from YOUR company or what you have to pay for employee's insurance? Certainly not going to be you!
Anyway, I say "Go Wilson"!!!!!!!!! I wish more would have the nerve to say what they know to be truthful instead of being little "cowards" and little mice just sitting there wanting approval from the "big cheese". I'll say it again......if the man in office deserves respect, then give it....it he doesn't why be a hypocite?? Wilson has every right as a representative of the people to speak up at any time when the people are being lied to.

Why is everyone so upset over Rep. Wilson's call-out? Just because it was untrue, doesn't mean it was incorrect to bring a little bit of the internet into our government. What place does decorum and professionalism have in our government? Why should South Carolina be represented by people that don't shout out random accusations to the president on national television?

In fact, I see this event, with its obvious, overwhelming support seen in the comments, as a bellwether for Senators Graham and DeMint as well as Representatives like Henry Brown. To them: why weren't you yelling out whatever crossed your mind like a sports fan? How were you able to keep yourself from protecting our interests with two-word challenges to the President's message, especially considering that the format was one that wouldn't allow you to elaborate or engage the President? Obviously you missed a golden opportunity to represent the GOP's point of view.

In fact, everyone in this state should take it upon themselves to start heckling the managers of other divisions at their company. The more public and less professionally appropriate... the more AMERICAN!

Everyone who said he's right for shouting out in a joint session of the US Congress like that is flat out wrong.

Check the rules: "The precedents of the House allow a wide latitude in criticism of the President, other executive officials, and the government itself. That was a foolish thing he did, regardless of if you agree with him or not. He broke and disrespected a century old rule of decorum in the US House. General voicing of opinions for example murmurs, boo'ing, cheers, etc are not forbidden.

I am shocked at the disrespect expressed at last night speech. I apologize to you President Obama for the ignores of some americans. Joe should be ashamed of himself for disrespecting OUR president, and our presidency.

It a shame that some people can't get past racism. It shouldn't matter if he is white, black, red, or purple; he is our PRESIDENT. And if we, americans, can't respect OUR president,or the presidency than how do you expect the world and its people to respect our PRESIDENT or US.

Let me say this; when my children were growing up this is what I told them about racism. There are good white people and there are bad white people just like there is good black people and there are bad black people. The color of you skin doesn't determine whether you are good or bad. I am a white person raised in an all white community, but when I served in the army I learned that there are many good, intelligient black people.

My father, who is 92years old, was very racist. Finally,my father put his racism aside and voted for Obama. I did ask him who is was voting for, but when he told me I was shocked. My father said,"He is a very intelligent, passionate man."

I think it was nothing but ignorance to call OUR president a liar. I think Joe was just sitting there waiting for an opportunity to be disrespectful to President Obama. There is no room in our government for ignorance, and disrespect. Go home Joe and learn some manners. What happened to your southern hospitality?

Do you really think that at the end of his speech, that President Obama would even be the least bit concerned about what anyone thought of his speech (unless of course it was to give him accolades for it)? No! Do you think President Obama would have asked if anyone had any objections to his statements/comments? No!

I'm glad to see that the president's call to end partisan rancor and to open channels of rational discussion didn't get overshadowed by something that is a relatively minor infraction inflated by the media into something preposterous. (Is the sarcasm evident?)

This isn't a free speech issue. It's an issue of manners. Wilson has the right to his opinion, he doesn't have the right to shout it out whenever and whereever he wants. If I went to his speech and started yelling, I bet security would have me removed.

Second of all, the comparisons of Obama to Hitler are absolutely in poor taste. He's not killing millions of people, and he's not trying to enforce socialism. If you think he is, diversify your sources of information because Rush Limbaugh and Glen Beck are commentators, not journalists. They have no obligation to the facts. Try reading a history book too. The current healthcare debate has no valid comparison to nazis or socialism. The proposed public option is no more "socialist" than the institutions of social security, medicare or medicaid, all of which are pretty popular.

In closing, healthcare reform isn't some expansion of the welfare state. There are more people in the middle class hurting from healthcare and in need of help than there are people on the govt dole who would get anything for free from this plan so cool it with that shit. I work 2 jobs and I still can't afford to go to a doctor or the dentist. I was supposed to have surgery two years ago, and couldn't because I was disqualified on a technicality. Climb out of your metaphorical bomb-shelters of ignorance, stop taking everything you hear on talk radio at face value and start understanding that this is a serious problem for more than just whatever minority group you want to hate this week...

I teach in California, but was offered a job with $10,000 increase in salary in SC, by a friend who is a principal at a high school there. I am white, married to a black man, with a mixed race child. I asked him if there are any black people in his school, "no, they go to a different school". I asked him if there are any black people in his neighborhood, "no, they live in another part of town." Well, WHERE would we live, and how would they treat my family in SC? " I guess you should probably just stay in California. It would not work out." What does that say about SC?

If President Obama is correct and there is nothing in the bill about health care for illegal aliens then why would the democrats vote NO to an amendment requiring proof of citizenship before health care is provided ??
If it was spelled out then nobody would have needed to
consider proposing an amendment. Please Please consider facts. That clears up most of the problems.
If congress was that worried about YOUR health they would have passed some form of reform many years ago. It is all about positioning for one ideology
or the other. If you trust the gov. to do a wonderful job with everything because you dont want to make any tough adult decisions other than what channel to watch then you should be for the democrats plan. They have done such a great job guarding the southern border to prevent the illegals from entering in the first place. They have done a fantastic job of handling the VA, post office, medicare , medicade, fannie mae and fredie mac. We should let em do it all and move back in to a cave. If you dont want another entitlement program for people that take more than they give then you should be for the
bill 3400 the republicans have proposed. The bill 3200 is about control of 20% of the economy and waving good bye to freedom and democracy.
