Mark Sanford for President? If America could elect GWB...

Posted by Will Moredock on Wed, Nov 19, 2008 at 11:28 PM

I will admit, the blogtalk and comments in South Carolina's newspapers is beginning to make me just a little anxious. Since he was elected to head up the National Republican Governors Association two weeks ago, the buzz about Sanford as a presidential prospect has started up again. There is very little to recommend him for such a promotion, but then there was very little to recommend George W. Bush, if you will recall. Like Sanford, Bush was an undistinguished southern governor who had the kind of appeal that comes from a nice set of teeth, a good barber, an attractive family, a closet full of well cut khaki slacks and plaid shirts. But in 21st century America, that seems to be enough. And, like Bush, Sanford appears to be a rigid ideologue, though his ideology is more in the economic and fiscal sphere; Bush was a social ideologue. Ideologues are a scary lot and the wreckage of the Bush administration illustrates exactly why. I will have more to say about Mark Sanford in my November 26 City Paper column. Check it out.

This is a nice and dandy little piece of mind you have written, but you do shame to yourself in saying "Ideologues are a scary lot..." considering you are INFAMOUS in Charleston/Low Country/Myrtle Beach for being one of the most idealistic writers (lack of substance, just drooled bias) that has ever touched pen to paper.
