The city of Charleston's Late-Night Activity Review Committee is holding three listening sessions throughout the day Wednesday, and just in case you need extra motivation to make your voice heard, consider this: There's a beer in it for you.

During the city's one-year moratorium on new late-night bars in certain areas of downtown, the Late-Night Activity Review Committee has been charged with coming up with a plan for the future of Charleston's nightlife. To that end, the committee will hold three listening sessions for downtown residents, members of the food and beverage industry, bar hoppers, and other members of the general public to weigh in on future regulations and zoning changes.

The meetings will be held at 10 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 5:30 p.m. at the downtown branch of the Charleston County Public Library (68 Calhoun St.). The BACE League of Charleston, a pro-nightlife group, has been trying to drum up interest in the meetings, and Recovery Room owner Chris "Boston" DiMattia happens to be a BACE League member. So here's the deal, according to a Facebook event page from the BACE League:

1) When you go to the library for one of the sessions, take a selfie on your phone.

2) Post that pic on the BACE League of Charleston, Inc. Facebook page.

3) Show it to a Rec Room bartender at the after party, and your first PBR is on us. (Make sure to thank Rec for being so awesomely proactive and involved in the community and BACE).

DiMattia says the idea came up while he was talking to BACE League attorney Elliott A. Smith.

"I looked at it like, 'Hey, man, I'm so sick of all these kids complaining and then we can't get anyone to show up to these meetings,'" DiMattia says. "So Elliott was like, 'Why don't we get them to take a selfie and then come up to the bar and get a beer?'"

Indeed, why not?
