Ravenel jumper offered cop cocaine before brief chase

Before a man led police on a brief chase onto the Ravenel yesterday morning, stopped got out of his car, and jumped off the bridge, he asked an officer that approached his vehicle, "Want to do some lines, some lines of coke, man?" [ABC 4]

After Charleston County vowed to withdraw funding from the Charleston Regional Development Alliance, the county's economic development group is unsure about its future. [P&C]

A handful of new Charleston County schools opened their doors to students for the first time yesterday, including the controversial new beachfront Sullivan's Island Elementary School. [P&C]

Charleston School of Law also sets off on a new year this week, but the P&C reports that even according to school administrators, the question of who will end up owning the private law school appears to be up in the air. [P&C]

Wrapping up interviews yesterday, College of Charleston President Glenn McConnell could have a recommendation on who to hire to lead the school's men's basketball team as soon as today. Former Cougar star and NBA player Anthony Johnson still appears to be the odds-on favorite. [P&C]

State unemployment ticked up a few notches last month to 5.7 percent after three months of holding steady at 5.3 percent. [CRBR]

Despite the attorney general turning over the investigation of state House Speaker Bobby Harrell to 1st Circuit Solicitor David Pascoe, the investigation is still pending and Pascoe now has to decide whether to seek more info, dismiss the case, or seek indictment against Harrell. [The State]
