Accepting the #IceBucketChallenge

South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley took the Ice Bucket Challenge today, receiving two buckets' worth of ice water from her kids, Nalin and Rena, and tossing the challege back to musician Edwin McCain, Clemson coach Dabo Swinney, and Charleston's own Stephen Colbert.

If you've been a human on the internet in the past few months, you've seen Ice Bucket Challenge videos dousing your social media feeds in an effort to raise awareness, and money, for the ALS Association, a group that supports research and awareness campaigns for the disease also known as Lou Gherig's Disease.

In the video posted by Gov. Haley today, she says she was accepting the challenge issued by Stephen Finger, a South Carolina man diagnosed with ALS in 2013, who's put a public face on the disease as an activist for ALS research in the Midlands since his diagnosis.

Finger also called for several Columbia-area figures to take the challenge as well as Haley, USC coach Steve Spurrier, and former Gamecock pitcher Michael Roth.

When issued the challenge, a person has 24 hours to fulfill the call to donate $20 to the ALS Association AND dump a bucket of cold water over your head OR donate $50 and stay dry. Then you pass on the challenge to someone else.

The ALS Association has reported a huge spike in donations over the last few weeks, bringing in $4 million since July 29, compared to $1.12 million over the same period a year ago.
