On Monday, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division closed its investigation of the death of 19-year-old Denzel Curnell, who died of a gunshot wound to the head outside the Bridgeview Village apartment complex on the night of June 20. On Friday, SLED released its full investigative report.

We're poring over the report right now, but in the meantime, we decided to publish the full report. Ninth Circuit Solicitor Scarlett Wilson reviewed the report and said on Monday that "it is clear" Curnell committed suicide, despite three minutes missing from the surveillance footage of the incident.

Interviews with witnesses both support and contradict Officer Jamal Medlin's account. The first two witness interviews, both conducted the night of the shooting, include admissions from the witnesses that they didn't know who fired the gun. However, in interviews conducted days later, three witnesses say that Medlin fired the gun.

The SLED report also notes that Curnell had gun residue on both hands, and the gun he was holding contained one spent and five unfired rounds. Other unfired rounds were also found at the scene, with the determination being they fell out of the teen's pockets.
