Charleston police have caught more distracted drivers, but offenders might not need to worry just yet

It seems that Charleston and Mt. Pleasant police are becoming less shy about issuing tickets for the bans passed in both areas for texting while driving. The Mt. Pleasant Police Department has issued four tickets since February, when zero tickets had been written.

Charleston City Council passed their ban in October 2013, and since then they have issued a total of six tickets. But the majority of the tickets have been written in recent months. Four of the six tickets in Charleston were written this May, and a similar pattern is occurring with the Mt. Pleasant police department as well. Three of the four tickets in Mt. Pleasant were issued in April.

So, should we all put our cellphones down while driving now? Probably for safety reasons, but the chances of getting a ticket still seem slim.
