Last night, the Medical University of South Carolina's Student Government Association unanimously passed a resolution opposing a merger with the College of Charleston.

Prior to last night's meeting, the SGA asked for feedback from students regarding the merger.

They received more than 1,000 responses. According to the survey, 89 percent of MUSC students oppose the bill. However, 67 percent favored some kind of collaboration between the two schools.

Earlier this week, the College of Charleston's Faculty Senate passed a unanimous resolution opposing the merger. Faculty Senate speaker Lynn Cherry said members did not want a “forced merger.”

MUSC's student government group used the same phrase in its resolution, stating “we, the Student Government Association of the Medical University of South Carolina, do oppose any forced merger between the Medical University of South Carolina and the College of Charleston.”
