If indeed the gray skies smile upon us and snow collects on the ground in downtown Charleston, there will be a massive snowball fight in Marion Square on Wednesday at high noon. The Holy City Snowball Fight, an event being organized on Facebook, has over 220 RSVPs so far.

"If there's any kind of accumulation at all, we'll be out there in full force," says David Higgins, who is organizing the event. It won't be any old snowball free-for-all, though. Participants will divide into blue and red teams. Here are the instructions from the Facebook event page:

If you live south of Calhoun on the peninsula, West Ashley, James and Johns Island, Folly Beach, etc., you are RED. If you live north of Calhoun St. on the peninsula, Mt. Pleasant, Daniel Island, North Charleston, IOP, or Sullivan's Island, you are BLUE. Be sure to represent your colors flamboyantly.

After the last snowball has flown, the combatants plan to retire to Boone's Bar, which will be running snow-day specials including $4 White Russians, $3 mimosas, $4 Palmetto Pale Ales, half-off wings, and an $8 grilled cheese and tomato soup special. Cool Runnings will also be shown on the big screen upstairs, according to a manager at the bar.

"Whether it snows or not, we're still doing the afterparty," Higgins says.
