Join fellow cyclists this Saturday in remembering Gardner during the annual RIDEdwin memorial ride, now in its fourth year. The short, police-escorted bike ride will begin with a brief rally at Cannon Park at 9 a.m. All ages are welcome. The event celebrates the feel of community that Gardner loved and his desire to make Charleston more bike-friendly.
“Camaraderie and inclusion are the best part of the events. Everyone feels connected and everyone shows up — from spandex cyclists to families with babies. Even dogs have joined in the ride,” says Pam Sullivan of Charleston Moves.
Before his death, Gardner was an active member of the Charleston community. A skilled kayaker and boat builder, he founded the Mosquito Fleet to teach underprivileged youth about Charleston’s maritime history and share his love of the water. He was also a member of the Peninsula Task Force that deals with alternative forms of transportation.
RIDEdwin is held annually to keep Gardner’s visions alive.
