DeMint check-in - Jim DeMint's tenure at the Heritage Foundation is off to a shaky start as one of his first initiatives, a study blasting proposed immigration reform measures as too expensive, is being discredited by congressional Republicans like U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, who was a close ally of DeMint's while in office. D.C. insiders are viewing Heritage's hiring of a blue chip PR consulting firm as a move that could jeopardize the group's standing as a reputable source of conservative policy analysis.

Biden rope line whispers - Words Vice President Joe Biden had with a S.C. Sierra Club activist (Politico) while visiting the rope line during an appeareance in Columbia last weekend are the subject of a new online campaign after Biden made it seem like he was actually against the Keystone XL oil pipeline, while the administration continues pushing for it.

Idol - St. Helena Island native Candace Glover (Beaufort Gazette) advanced to the American Idol finale last night as one of the final two contestants. (FOX)

Harpo, Harpo, Harpo... - The Daily Show gave it to former S.C. Dem Chair Dick Harpootlian over comments he made (over the same weekend as Biden's above) saying the party's presumptive nominee, state Sen. Vincent Sheheen will "send Nikki Haley back to wherever the hell she came from," which state Republicans have siezed on as a racist remark.

Folly renourishment - The Post and Courier has a package in today's paper that highlights the struggles to rebuild eroded beachfront along Folly Island, including current work on Folly Beach County Park. In addition to the park, the stories look at private homes as well as the Charleston Jetties' effect on the beach community.

Gov. 2014 - The back-and-forth rhetoric between Gov. Nikki Haley and state Sen. Vincent Sheheen took the Senate floor yesterday as Sheheen teed off on Haley over proposed ethics reform, saying "I don’t remember the governor being out there on ethics reform until she had ethics problems"

Gates at USC - Former Defense Secretary Robert Gates will address (AP) business, communications, nursing, pharmacy, and public health graduates at their commencement ceremonies today at USC.
