Haley to tap Scott to replace Jim DeMint
Reports from multiple outlets say that Gov. Nikki Haley will announce Rep. Tim Scott to replace outgoing Senator Jim DeMint, who will leave after the new year to head the conservative Heritage Foundation think tank.

Charleston joins the nation in mourning Newtown shooting
About 200 people gathered Sunday night at Smythe Park on Daniel Island to sing Christmas songs and pray in remembrance of the dozens killed Friday in the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, C.T. Similar vigils were also held downtown and in Summerville.

North Charleston selling Shipwatch Square and Navy hospital for $9.2 million
North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey held a press conference Friday morning to announce that the city would sell off two large tracts of land where Shipwatch Square shopping center once stood, and the Navy hospital, a massive 10-story building that's been vacant for nearly 20 years. For the city, the land, bought by Chicora Gardens Holdings LLC, is a major piece of its plans to redevelop the area that's fallen on hard times since the Naval base closed in the area.

Limehouse catches flak over airport authority appointment
State Rep. Chip Limehouse is being critisized for how he handled the appointment of Mallory Factor to the Charleston County Aviation Authority, with some lawmakers saying Limehouse didn't follow procedure before passing the local delegation's endorsement of Factor on to Gov. Nikki Haley.

Electors to cast votes for Romney, Ryan today
South Carolina electors will gather today at Secretary of State Mark Hammond's office to cast their formal votes for Republican candidates for president and vice-president Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan, who won the state in last month's general election with 55% of the vote.
