Only seven more shows to go before the Village Playhouse ends its Piccolo Spoleto run. Then it's a quick turn around to start up another show, A Flea in Her Ear. Rehearsals start Monday and it opens June 18.

But Keely Enright, director and co-founder, isn't complaining. Before Piccolo began, she was worried and even panicked that the sour economy and minimal promotion on the part of the city's Office of Cultural Affairs were going to yield poor ticket sales. Turns out there wasn't much to fret over.

Ring of Fire has sold out nearly every show, she says. Splish-Splash is 90 percent capacity and Rounding Third (pictured), the lone comedy among musical revues, had such a wild standing ovation the other night that Enright had to go back stage to get the actors, Josh Wilhoit (left) and Thomas Burke Heath, to come out for another round of applause.

"I couldn't be happier with how things have gone," Enright says.
