Apparently neoconservative ideas are just fine. They worked great for John McCain:

I was there and Lindsey Graham whined and complained at us for most of his speech. He made the excuses for his unconstitutional socialist/fascist votes by claiming he's trying to win over independents. WHAT DOES HE THINK WE ARE?
He's trying to get people who are confused over whether to support neo-cons or liberals--there's not a very well defined "center" there and their confusion is understandable. The party will lose every time if it promises the same thing as the liberals but not quite so much nor quite so fast.
The party needs to present a real choice: their support for the law (the U.S. Constitution) or the Democrats' not supporting it. I know how I would choose in that case.
Graham is a dinosaur--a country club Republican in the tradition of Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford. If he couldn't use earmarks to bribe the Democrats and corporate interests in SC with hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars, he couldn't get re-elected.
I don't live in South Carolina and am not that familiar with Lindsey Graham, but Tommy C's comment above tells me most of what I need to know about him. Establishment politicians like him are definitely part of the problem, not the solution. They have the system rigged to keep themselves in power indefinitely, and have no use for anyone like Ron Paul or (gasp!) an alternative party like the Libertarians who come along and really wants to get power back to the people. I don't expect the GOP to embrace libertarian ideas, because the party is run by people like Graham who have too much to lose. Grassroots Republicans might be willing to allow other people like drug users, prostitutes, GLBTQ people, and gamblers their freedom in order to secure freedoms they care about themselves, like lower taxes and government spending, gun rights, and school choice, but I predict they will be too traditionalist/conformist to throw out people like Graham and give freedom a chance. So I urge people to quit the GOP (and the Democrats) and give the LP or another alternative party a try, or simply decline to support any party. I have been telling the GOP for over 2 year's Lindsey Graham is a Trader & hypercrit. i know i have tried to deal with him as a Veteran. He saids he's for veterans then does nothing to help them. Graham is for Graham.
Ronald Reagan said " Libertarianism is the heart and soul of conservatism." If he were still alive, he would break the "11th Commandment" off in Graham's a$$, IMHO.Graham should have said that he followed in the tradition of Hoover,Nixon, "Dubya", and Larry Craig republicans. HE has convinced me of one thing,,however. For over twenty years my conservative, Republican friends and family have begged me to vote for the "lesser of two evils" as opposed to "throwing my vote away" on a third party candidate. I can promise you that in 2012 , I will vote(and campaign for) FOR WHOEVER THE DEMS RUN against this cretin...
