Lindsey Graham: "Ron Paul is not the leader of the Republican Party"

Posted by Jack Hunter on Sun, May 3, 2009 at 9:45 PM

Graham is right. He wanted the leader of the GOP to be that standard bearer of staunch limited government conservatism, John McCain, and to a large extent, the Arizona senator's brand of Republicanism still defines the party.

It is telling that a self-described "conservative" like Graham will always go to bat for establishment candidates like McCain, despite their countless faults, yet will always attack actual conservatives like Ron Paul, despite their near ideological perfection.

Here's a stark reminder of why Graham, undeniably, unquestionably and unequivocally - sucks.

And take note of the wild, uncontrollable applause that greets him:

Lindsey Graham is part of the reason my former party is now so offensive to me: arrogance, neo-rightism, delusion, etc, etc, etc...

The Republican party is a joke now because they have embraced liberalism and shunned Libertarianism. It's disgusting that the Reps and the Dems pretend to disagree yet when in office continue the exact same policies. Graham is a great example of what is wrong with Republicans right now.

Here's a letter I composed to Graham after reading this:

Senator Graham,

I'm not from your state but I have been observing your positions and statements for a while. Your recent comments about Ron Paul betray your obvious misunderstanding about what a true conservative really is.

Your horrendous voting record on foreign policy, the bailouts, spending, along with your recent comments in favor of bank nationalization, reveal you as something way worse than any insults you could hurl at a great American Congressman and war hero like Ron Paul.

You're nothing more than a charlatan and a fake. You throw around the conservative label like it's some sort of answer on a game show, yet you have no idea what it means. Your positions on issues reveals that you have absolutely no understanding of classical liberalism (which conservatism in America sprung from) and your endorsement of big government both here and abroad reveals your true colors.

Your firm endorsement of Bush and his statist, anti-American policies place you firmly within the same disgusting mold that you claimed to despise.

Senator Graham, these and many more reasons why you, sir, totally suck.

Don't tell me who MY leader is, I'll pick my own. I picked Ron Paul!

Ron Paul was the only REAL Republican presidential candidate in 2008. Because Republicans didn't vote for a real Republican in the primaries, we were given two statists - McCain and Obama - as the two major candidates.

Thanks for downplaying Ron Paul, right wing media! Just know that the 2008 election of Obama is your fault. If you would've supported Ron Paul, there would be no President Obama.

The "HEAT WAS ON" Wavle and Herren both say there's no bad blood or much difference between them in terms of conservative philosophy. Instead, both say it was an aggressive campaign by a third candidate, former Ron Paul organizer Chris Lawton, as well as a large number of new people at the county convention that helped throw the race to Herren.

I would prefer Ron Paul take a behind the scenes role and find a similarly valued conservative/libertarian leader with more presence and media savvy. It's horrible that we have to seek those qualities in candidates - but that's what wins these days.

I like Ron Paul. I believe in balanced budgets, fiscal conservatism, and reduced spending, just like Senator Graham. However, unlike Senator Graham, I do not believe in the sacrifice of the 4th amendment. I do not believe that building a global empire has historicaly proven to make a country stronger. History shows global empire subjects a country to financial collapse which is one of the many reasons that we are in the shaper we are today economicaly. I believe in individual liberty, and individual responsibility, and when I see candidates who vote like they actually understand the Constitution, I am inclined to support them financially as well as by volunteering and voting for that candidate. Senator Graham is not the leader of the Republican party. He is not my leader. He will not get my support. If the Republican party puts up candidates like Senator Graham, they will not get my support in the next election cycle either.

Watch as the same man who voted for the Wall Street bailout and now believes we should nationalize U.S. banks, talk with a straight face about Obama spending us into "oblivion."

It will be a cold day before these fake conservatives ever get my vote. Ron Paul 2012

The noise we are hearing from people like Jeb Bush, Mitt Romney, Michael Steele, and Bobby Jindal are the final death throes of a desperate and pathetic group of clowns that are trying to pretend they are "reforming the party," when in reality they will be thrown to the permanent scrap heap. Ron Paul 2012!

Lindsey Graham and all the other neo-cons make me sick. They're arrogance, ignorance and disregard of the Constitution is why the Republicans are irrelevant and so pitiful.
Ron Paul IS MY leader and gets my FULL support. (The Libertarian Party too.) www.campaignforliberty.com

Ron Paul is the leader of a worldwide movement to restore liberty and is not just the leader of Republicans, he is the leader of libs to conservatives worldwide. We all want to say to big brother - like the cartoon mudflaps say "BACK OFF!!"
Today I am going to contact my congressman about the ammunition shortage and the attempts to stop our 2nd Amendment right to bear arms for self defense and defending liberty.

Linday Graham, and his buddy, McCain, are sad, sad, examples of what the Republican party has come to. They are and will always be opportunistic loosers.

If I hear one more idiot say "I don't like so and so, but we have to go with him because that is what wins." What is this, our country or a pie judging contest?

Does it really matter if you pick a statist, constitution destroying, economic thief but someone who can win?

Get it through your head, it MATTERS who wins. It doesn't matter if he was on your "team" or not.

If the guy you are voting for is a statist, war mongering, big government spending pig, then guess what you get for a President?

The only way you will ever get what you want is to vote for it. If you don't have a choice to vote for whom you want, then the only sensible thing to do is to not vote. Voting for the lesser of two evils is still voting for evil.

We have one option: get power out of government hands. Then it won't matter who the morons vote for - the guy in charge won't be in charge of much of anything.

I have been a republican conservative for 40 yrs,and I can tell each & everyone that Lindsay Graham isNOT a conservative republican! He doesnot stand for Limited government nor is he a fiscal conservative. He loves our government peoples credit card using taxpayer dollars! Who is the true conservative, yet gets marginalized by the owned media? Congressman Ron Paul. Folks I have been around along time, and I have seen alot of unscrupulous things occur within the republican GOP. The big spenders such as Lindsey Graham doesnot embrace Congressman Paul (whom actually see people as U.S. citizens & not as just "Taxpayers")because Linsey Graham is in all actuality a Neoconservative which means a "NEW" Conservative. What is new about Nazi-ism? I am a GRAND OLD PARTY conservative(GOP)& so is congressman Ron Paul of Tx.

Somehow Lindsey Graham reminds me a lot of Al Franken's character, Stewart Smalley....then again, politically,Graham reminds me a lot of Franken, himself!

Mr.Graham,
If you want to grow the party, you should resign immediately. Ron Paul may not be the leader, but the ideas he stands for, and have been standing for all his career are the leaders. Principles that aren't sold for political expediency are the ones that lead. People don't follow political savvy. People follow courage. The courage to stand for something and not alter it based on the latest poll numbers. We've got Democrats for that. That, Mr. Senator is what you lack, and that's why you should leave the scene as fast as possible.

In Liberty!
